Introduction
The D-Link DI-704GU Gigabit QoS Router integrates highly useful features to make business more productive.The DI-704GU
combines broadband Internet sharing, a USB print server, a QoS engine, and four Gigabit LAN ports to provide centralized
printing services, improved VoIP performance, and high-speed file transfer ideal for business environments.
Four 10/100/1000Mbps LAN ports in the Router permit the transmission of heavy network traffic at high speed, allowing all
connected users to get the full advantage of a fast broadband Internet connection.These high speed ports also make VoIP
call sharing easier without degrading any user’s connection within the network or to the Internet.
Quality of Service (QoS) technology allows the DI-704GU to improve the quality ofVoIP calls.VoIP and applications like video
streaming are real-time sensitive and require more bandwidth.The DI-704GU uses an intelligent QoS engine to automatically
detect and prioritize bandwidth-sensitive packets so that they can be sent over the Internet as soon as a request is made,
which results in faster processing of real-time based packets, less latency, greater reliability, and a better user experience.
A built-in USB 2.0 port provides print server functionality. Connect a USB printer to the router to share it among the network’s
users. Using the Router’s built-in Print Server Wizard, network administrators can easily set up an attached printer for shared
printing over the network.
The DI-704GU router also features Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Network Address Translation (NAT) double firewall
functionality with Denial of Service (DoS) attack protection to safeguard the network.These security features can be enabled
without reducing network performance, and an improved access control system and parental control options can block
inappropriate content and keep employees focused on business.
Operating Systems
The DI-704GU uses an HTML-based web interface for setup and management.The web configuration manager may be
accessed using any operating system capable of running web browser software, including Windows 98 SE, Windows
ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

Hardware Overview
USB LED
A solid light indicates a connection to the
USB port. This LED blinks during data
transmission.
Power LED
A solid light indicates a proper
connection to the power supply.
Status LED
A blinking light indicates that the DI-704GU
is functioning properly.
Local Network LEDs
A solid light on each port indicates a connection
to an Ethernet enabled device. These LEDs
blink during data transmission.
WAN LED
A solid light indicates a connection on the WAN port. This
LED blinks during data transmission.

WAN Port
This is for the connection of an Ethernet cable to
your Cable or DSL modem.
USB Port
Connection for a USB printer.
Power Receptor
Reset Button
Pressing this button restores the Router to its
original factory default settings.
LAN Ports
These are the connections for Ethernet cables to
Ethernet-enabled computers.

Hardware Installation
A. First, connect the power adapter to the receptor at the back panel of the DI-704GU and then plug the other end
of the power adapter to a wall outlet or power strip. The Power LED will turn ON to indicate proper operation.
B.1. Power off your Cable or DSL modem; some devices may not have a on/off switch and will require you to unplug
the power adapter. Now, the DI-704GU should be powered on and the Cable/DSL modem should be turned off.
2. Cable/DSL modem (Power Off) – DI-704GU (Power On) Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack located
on the Cable/DSL modem. After the Ethernet cable is securely connected, power on the Cable/DSL modem by
turning on the unit or plugging in the power adapter.
3. Cable/DSL modem (Power On) – DI-704GU (Power On) Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN
PORT on the back panel of the DI-704GU. The WAN LED light will illuminate to indicate proper connection. If the
WAN LED is not illuminated, please go back to step B1 and repeat the instructions.
C.Insert an Ethernet cable to LAN port 1 on the back panel of the DI-704GU and an available Ethernet port on
the network adapter in the computer you will use to configure the DI-704GU. The LED light for LAN Port 1 will
illuminate to indicate proper connection.
Note: The LAN Ports on the DI-704GU are Auto-MDI/MDIX. Meaning you can use straight-through or crossover
Ethernet cables to connect with the LAN Ports.
D.Computers equipped with Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet adapters will be able to connect to the DI-704GU.The DFE-
530TX or DGE-530T PCI Adapters (as examples) will be able to connect with the router without any additional
configuration required.

Configuration
This section will explain how to configure your new D-Link Gigabit QoS Router using the D-Link Setup Wizard.
Click Login
OpenyourWebbrowserandtype“http://192.168.0.1”
into the URL address box. Then press the Enter or
Return key.
Select “Admin” from the User Name drop down
menu and leave the password field blank.

This wizard guides you through the following
basic router setup steps:
• Set your Password
• Select your Time Zone
• Configure your Internet Connection
• Restart
Continue to page 13 for instructions on
running the Wizard.
Before you can use a printer that is plugged
into the router’s USB connector, you must
configure your computer for that printer. If the operating system of your computer is Win32 compatible, all you need to
do is click the Printer Wizard button, and the configuration is done by a Printer Wizard program. The Printer Wizard
provides the necessary printer setup link between your PC and the router via the browser. The browser downloads the
Printer Wizard program to your PC. You should already have a WAN connection, so that the browser can access the
latest version of the program; however, the browser can always download some version of the program from the router
itself. If the browser displays a pop-up window requesting permission to download the Printer Wizard program, answer
Yes or OK. Continue to page 21 for instructions on running the Printer Wizard.

connection for your router. If you are unsure of which
setting to select, please contact your Internet Service

Click the “Clone MAC Address” button to
automatically copy the MAC address of the network
adapter in your computer. You can also manually
type in the MAC address.
