Before closing up your Marn, make sure that all contents are secured
and placed in a manner that will allow your Marn to close without
force. Be observant of how the Flyer Retenon Storage secures the
yer to ensure that nothing intereferes with it. Some ber can be
tucked under the yer, while most will need to be above it. Ensure
that any addional items placed in the Marn, including ber, is clear
of the Tension Assembly. Once you have everything in place and are
sure that it will close without force, carefully close the box and lock
the latches.

The Marn comes with an internal built-in Speed Controller. It can also
be used with our external Daedalus Speed Controller. Please note that
the external Daedalus Speed Controller cannot be stored within the
Marn Box.
Internal VS External
Speed Controller
To use the Internal Speed Controller, you’ll need to ensure that the
Internal/External Control Selecon Switch is set to II. Once this is
selected, you’ll be able to use the Internal Direcon Switch to change
your yer’s spin direcon and the Internal Speed Dial to adjust your
yer’s speed.
Internal Direcon Switch
I- Clockwise Z twist (commonly chosen for spinning singles)
0 - Neutral
II - Counterclockwise S twist (commonly used for plying)
When using the Internal Speed Controller, you will need to plug your
power source into the outlet located externally on the Marn’s box,
on the right-hand side.
When needing to stop your wheel, scroll your Internal Speed Dial to
0. If you are not going to resume spinning right away, you will want to
posion the Internal Direcon Switch to Neutral (0).

To set your Marn to use an External Speed Controller, whether the
Daedalus Speed Controller or the Magpie Speed Controller, you
will need to switch the Internal/External Control Selecon Switch
to I. Once this has been selected, the Marn will fully depend on the
External Speed Controller for all operaons.
To plug an External Speed Controller into the Marn, you will need
a Motor Extension Cable. Plug the Female side of the cable into
Marn’s Plug-In for External Speed Controller.
When using the External Speed Controller, you will need to plug
your power source into the External Speed Controller to operate the
Marn.
To learn more about operang an External Speed Controller, please
review our Daedalus Speed Controller Manual.

The Marn is exclusively Scotch Tension. When Drive Band is installed,
view the Flyer from the side to ensure the alignment is correct. If
necessary, you can slide the motor’s posion forward or back.
The tension belt is located on the magnets in the Marn’s Lid. (It’s
a short piece of Kevlar with a spring and an adjustable cinch plate.)
Install your yer, bobbin, motor drive belt, and tension belt. Place
the tension belt so that the spring is on the LEFT side when spinning
singles (clockwise, Z), but swap the tension belt with the spring on the
RIGHT side for plying (counterclockwise, S). This way, the spring can
actually do its job on the “taut” side of the tension belt. The goal is to
have the Right Tension Dial adjusted into the middle of its adjustment
range, with no slack in the tension belt and very lile expansion of the
spring. This is a good starng point and ensures there is a usable range
on the dial so takeup can be increased or decreased.
Aer unpacking, a small adjustment may be required. Marn tension
uses a spring, and you can look at it to see how much tension is being
applied. The usable range goes from spring collapsed to fully extended
at almost double its length.

The Marn’s built-in Lazy Kate is ideal for chain-plying. If you angle
the Marn, you can use it for tradional 2-ply as well. To add tension
to the top of the bobbins, use the included Akerworks TensiTamers.
The Lazy Kate can also be used to hold your bobbins for hand-winding
a plying ball, which may be more convenient for tradional plying.
Marn comes with two Lazy Kate Axles and can hold up to four
axles. An addional set can purchased in the shop. Lazy Kate Axle Kit
includes TensiTamers.
