Product Information
The DMP-8000 series is a product family of digital media players (DMPs), which, when
combined with a digital display control system such as Show Control, Venus®Control
Suite, or Visiconn®Display Management, can be used in both scheduled and interactive
display control scenarios. The player distributes graphics, animations, live video, real-time
data, 3D effects, web page content, and other types of creative content to a digital
display network.
Within a display system, the player dynamically composites content onto a video output
to deliver playback to a single display or multiple displays in a digital display network.
Compatible with large-screen LED or at-panel displays, the player provides the following
functions:
• Multiple Display Technologies - Supports LED, LCD, plasma, and projection display
technologies
• Live Data - Maintains fresh, informative content using real-time data feeds
• Scheduling - Manages les using web-based scheduling when combined with
Visiconn®Display Management or Venus®Control Suite.
• Playback Reporting - Provides proof-of-performance reports (when combined with
the Visiconn®Display Management or Venus® Control Suite) to indicate when les ran
and for how long
• Split Screen Capability - Splits the display screen into zones for additional
display options
• Direct Control - Pairs with the Show Control system and/or the Venus®Control Suite to
provide customers direct control in environments with or without internet access
• Device Management - Uses Daktronics Intelligent Device Management (IDM) service

– 12 –
Network
Network congures the player for communication on the local area network (LAN)
including IP conguration and DNS conguration. Refer to Figure 22.
Figure 22: Conguration - Network
IP Conguration
The IP Conguration section enables the operator to congure the Internet Protocol (IP)
address automatically or manually.
1. Select either automatic or manual conguration by clicking Obtain an IP address
automatically or Use the following IP Address, respectively. Refer to Figure 22.
• Automatic: Selecting Obtain an IP address
automatically uses Dynamic Host Conguration
Protocol (DHCP) to automatically assign an IP
address to the player. A DHCP server is required
on the network for proper operation. If the
network conguration is left in this mode and no
DHCP server exists on the network, the address
will default to 169.254.x.y, where xand ywill
vary to assign a unique address on the network.
• Manual: Selecting Use the following IP Address
manually congures the IP address. Congure
the IP address manually when a DHCP server
does not exist or when an installation requires the player always use a static IP
address. Refer to Figure 23.
Note: If using manual conguration, values must be entered for the IP address,
subnet mask, and default gateway in their appropriate text boxes before
proceeding to Step 2.
2. Click Save.
Figure 23: IP Conguration

– 13 –
DNS Conguration
The DNS Conguration section enables the operator to congure the domain name
server (DNS) address automatically or manually. Daktronics remote diagnostic tools
require that internet host names are resolved to their dotted IP address format for
communication. An example of such a resolution is the internet host name www.
daktronics.com resolved to 64.233.169.147.
1. Select either automatic or manual conguration by clicking Obtain DNS server
address automatically or Use the following DNS server addresses, respectively. Refer
to Figure 24.
• Automatic: Selecting Obtain DNS server
address automatically is similar to IP address
conguration and uses information received
from a local DHCP server to congure DNS
information. This is the default setting.
• Manual: Select Use the following DNS
server addresses when a DHCP server is not
available on the local network. The operator
can congure the player to explicitly use a
DNS server on the network or on the internet
to provide name resolution. Both a preferred and an alternate server can be
congured. Refer to Figure 24.
Note: The player will query the alternate DNS server address in the event the
preferred server does not respond.
2. Click Save.
Display
Display shows the basic display and resolution information including output and display
settings. Refer to Figure 25.
Figure 25: Conguration - Display
Figure 24: DNS Conguration

– 14 –
Click Active or Inactive under the Daktronics Player section to enable or disable the
player. Set the player as Inactive only when third-party playback software is installed.
Clicking Active opens the Output Conguration and Display Conguration sections as
described below.
Output Conguration
This section contains the following parameters:
• Device sets the device used to output data to the display.
• Resolution sets the output resolution from a drop-down list.
• Keying turns alpha keying on or off on the display.
Display Conguration
This section contains the following parameters:
• Width is the width of the display’s active area
(area that shows the image) in pixels.
• Height is the height of the display’s active area
(area that shows the image) in pixels.
• Mode determines how the content is arranged
on the display. Refer to Figure 26 and the table
below.
Mode Description
Single Rectangle Used for displays that have a width no greater than the output width

Striped
Used for displays that have a width greater than the output width
(typically ribbon displays). Display content is broken down into sections
smaller than the output width. Refer to contract-specic Schematic
Drawings for a description of the number of stripes and their widths.
Time
Time sets the display's current time zone, congures the Network Time Protocol (NTP)
servers, and synchronizes the date and time. Refer to Figure 27.
Figure 27: Conguration - Time
Figure 26: Display Conguration - Mode

– 15 –
Time Zone
Under Time Zone, use the drop-down menu to pick the correct time zone for the display.
The correct time zone ensures the time and date elds are accurately presented if
included in messages. The default time zone is (UTC-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada).
NTP Servers
Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers synchronize
the controller’s clock with a selected time server.
Refer to Figure 28.
This setting selects a default clock source and
updates in the background to automatically
maintain a precise time. The controller’s network
settings must be correct and the operator must
have access to the time server for this function to
work.
