DataCard 280P User manual

Issue high-quality,
low-cost cards in a
single-pass operation
The Datacard®280P card
personalization system lets you
cost-effectively issue high-quality
plastic cards in a fast, single-pass
operation. Choose from embossed
characters, magnetic stripes, smart
cards, logos, text and bar codes to
meet your needs.
This productive system offers an
ideal solution for issuing credit,
debit and ATM cards—or any other
application where superior image
quality and card durability are a
must. Plus, its compact, space-
saving design and optional pop-up
keyboard make it a perfect fit for
small work areas.
Modular design lets you
buy only what you need
The basic Datacard 280P system
offers quick, quiet and reliable
embossing capabilities.
Optional modules for magnetic
stripe encoding, smart card
personalization, color topping
and printing of photos, logos,
text and other graphics allow you
to configure a system that meets
your current needs, then add more
capabilities as you need them.
This modular flexibility keeps your
initial investment low and makes
upgrading your system fast, easy
and affordable.
Magnetic stripe
and smart card options
Most of the world’s point-of-sale
systems require credit and debit
cards with encoded magnetic
stripes. But new financial card
innovations—such as stored value
cards—will demand smart card
personalization capabilities. The
280P system’s modular design
makes this transition from
magnetic stripes to smart cards
easy and affordable for your
organization.
The magnetic stripe module offers
front and rear encoding capabilities.
This flexibility—along with an
optional indent printing feature—
makes the Datacard 280P system
a cost-effective solution for issuing
Visa®Electron debit cards.
Built-in security helps
prevent theft, fraud
We equipped the Datacard 280P
system with a variety of security
features to protect your cards, your
data and your business. The card
hopper, main cabinet and topper
cabinet offer optional locking
capabilities that protect card stock
from theft or damage. The system
traps used foil ribbons and rejected
cards, which helps protect account
numbers and other critical data.
The Datacard 280P system can
also be linked to a host computer
system for direct downloading
of cardholder data, so you know
exactly how many cards are issued,
who authorized and printed them
and who received them.
