Reinstalling Microsoft®Windows® XP
NOTE: If you reinstall the Microsoft Windows XP operating system on your Dell™ Dimension™
computer, you must follow these instructions. These instructions replace the instructions listed in the
Dell Dimension XPS Owner’s Manual.
To avoid critical setup issues when you reinstall the Microsoft Windows XP operating system on
your computer, you must also reinstall the device drivers located on the ResourceCD that was
shipped with your computer.
NOTICE: Before you reinstall the device drivers and the Windows XP operating system, back up all data
files on your primary hard drive. For conventional hard drive configurations, the primary hard drive is the
first drive detected by the computer.
To reinstall the drivers, you need the following items:
• One blank floppy disk
•DellResourceCD
•Dell
Operating System CD
Creating a Device Driver Floppy Disk
1 Save and close any open files and exit any open programs.
2 Insert the ResourceCD.
3 Turn on (or restart) your computer.
4 Press <F12> immediately after the DELL™ logo appears.
If the operating system logo appears, wait until you see the Windows desktop, and then shut
down the computer and try again.
5 Use the up- and down-arrow keys to select IDE CD drive from the menu or enter the
associated menu option number.
6 After the system boots using the ResourceCD, select the number associated with the Create a
SATA RAID driver diskette
menu option.
7 Follow the instructions on the screen to create the floppy disk.
8 After you create the floppy disk, exit to DOS.
9 Remove the ResourceCD.
10 Remove the floppy disk.
Label it
Intel SATA Drivers .
11 Restart your computer.

Installing Microsoft Windows XP Using the Device Driver
Floppy Disk
NOTICE: The Operating System CD provides options for reinstalling Microsoft Windows. The options
can overwrite files and possibly affect programs installed on your hard drive. Therefore, do not reinstall
your operating system unless a Dell technical support representative instructs you to do so.
NOTICE: To prevent conflicts with Microsoft Windows, disable any virus protection software installed
on your computer before you reinstall the operating system. See the documentation that came with the
software for instructions.

Insert the Operating System CD.
2 Restart your computer.
3 Press <F12> immediately after the DELL™ logo appears.
If the operating system logo appears, wait until you see the Windows desktop, and then shut
down the computer and try again.
4 When the Press any key to boot from CD message appears, press any key.
5 Windows Setup launches automatically and the Windows XP Setup screen appears.
6 Press <F6> when you see the following prompt at the bottom of the screen.
Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID
driver...
7 When prompted, type s to select Specify Additional Device .
NOTE: If your system is unable to find a drive for installation, go back to step 2 and try again.
Make sure you follow each step.

When prompted, insert the Intel SATA Drivers floppy disk you created and press <Enter>.
9 Highlight Intel(R)82801ER SATA RAID Controller and press <Enter>.
10 Press <Enter> again to continue.
11 Leave the Intel SATA Drivers floppy disk in the computer.
12 To complete the Windows XP installation, see the instructions for setting up Windows in the
"Reinstalling Microsoft Windows XP
" section in the Dell Dimension XPS Owner’s Manual .
NOTE: When Windows Setup completes, remove the floppy disk and store it in a safe place.

メモ：お使いの Dell™ Dimension™ コンピュータで Microsoft Windows XP オペレーティングシステ
ムを再インストールする場合は、 下の手順に従ってください。 下に述べる手順は、
『Dell Dimension
XPS オーナーズマニュアル』の中で述べられている手順に代わるものです。
お使いのコンピュータで Microsoft Windows XP オペレーティングシステムを再インストールする
際、重大 セットアップの不具合を避けるため、お使いのコンピュータに同梱されている
ResourceCD
にあるデバイスドライバもあわせて再インストールしてください。
注意：デバイスドライバおよび Windows XP オペレーティングシステムを再インストールする前に、プ
ライマリ ードドライブにあるすべてのデータファイルをバックアップしてください。通常の ードド
ライブの設定では、システムが最初に検出するドライブがプライマリ ードドライブになります。
ドライバを再インストールするには、以下のアイテムが必要です。
• 空のフロッピーディスク 1 枚
• Dell ResourceCD
• Dell 『オペレーティングシステム CD 』
デバイスドライバフロッピーディスクの作成
1 開いているファイルをすべて保存してから閉じ、実行中のプログラムをすべて終了します。
2 ResourceCD を挿入します。
3 コンピュータの電源を入れます（または再起動します）。
4 DELL™ ロゴが表示されたらすぐに <F12> を押します。
オペレーティングシステムのロゴが表示された場合、
Windows のデスクトップが表示される
のを待ってから、コンピュータをシャットダウンして、再度試みます。
5 上下矢印キーを使って、メニューから IDE CD ドライブを選択するか、または関連するメ
ニューオプションの番号を入力します。
6 ResourceCD を使ってシステムを起動した後、 Create a SATA RAID driver diskette メ
ニューオプションの番号を選択します。
7 画面の指示に従ってフロッピーディスクを作成します。
8 フロッピーディスクを作成した後、 DOS を終了します。
9 ResourceCD を取り出します。
10 フロッピーディスクを取り出します。
ディスクに「
Intel SATA Drivers 」というラベルを付けます。
11 コンピュータを再起動します。

注意：『オペレーティングシステム CD』は、Microsoft Windows を再インストールするためのオプ
ションを提供します。オプションはファイルを上書きして、 ードドライブにインストールされている
プログラムに影響を与える可能性があります。このような理由から、デルのテクニカルサポート担当者
が指示しない限りオペレーティングシステムの再インストールをしないようにしてください。
注意：Microsoft Windows とのコンフリクトを防ぐため、システムにインストールされているアンチ
ウィルスソフトウェアを無効にしてからオペレーティングシステムを再インストールしてください。
手順については、ソフトウェアに付属しているマニュアルを参照してください。
1 『オペレーティングシステム CD 』を挿入します。
2 コンピュータを再起動します。
3 DELL™ ロゴが表示されたらすぐに <F12> を押します。

プロンプトが表示されたら、 s と入力して 追加デバイスを特定 を選択します。
メモ：お使いのシステムでインストール用のドライブを見つけられない場合は、手順 2 戻って再度試
みます。それぞれの手順 間違いなく従っているか確認してください。
8 プロンプトが表示されたら、作成した「 Intel SATA Drivers 」フロッピーディスクを挿入し、
<Enter> を押します。
9 Intel(R)82801ER SATA RAID Controller をハイライト表示し、 <Enter> を押します。
10 <Enter> をもう一度押し、作業を続けます。
11 「 Intel SATA Drivers 」フロッピーディスクは挿入したままにします。
12 Windows XP のインストールを完了するには、『 Dell Dimension XPS オーナーズマニュアル』
の「
Microsoft Windows XP の再インストール」の項にある Windows のセットアップに関
する説明を参照してください。
メモ：Windows のセットアップが完了したら、フロッピーディスクを取り出し安全な場所 保管します。
