AMD Opteron 6200 Series Processors
and System Memory—Information
Update
Important Information
The following Dell PowerEdge systems support the complete feature set of AMD
Opteron 6200 series processors:
• M915
• R715
• R815
The following conditions apply:
• Your system requires a BIOS upgrade to support Opteron 6200 series
processors. You can download the BIOS at
support.dell.com.
• Do not mix Opteron 6100 and 6200 series processors.
• PowerEdge R815 supports a maximum of two 140 W Opteron 6200 series
processors. In a four-processor configuration, install 85 W or 115 W
processors.

New System Features With Opteron 6200 Series
Processors
• The processor frequency drops to 500 MHz when the system is idle to reduce
power consumption.
• Application Power Management — The Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the
processor denotes its power consumption. This feature optimizes system
power consumption.
• Performance Monitoring Counters — The Northbridge P-States (performance
states) allows more users to access the performance monitor counters at the
same time. This feature reduces power consumption and optimizes
performance within the specified TDP.
• Low Voltage Memory Modules (DDR3L DIMMs) — The Opteron 6200 series
processors support DDR3L DIMMs at a lower operating voltage of 1.35 V.
NOTE: BIOS setup options allow you to control frequency and voltage
configurations within allowable limits.

Number of Cores per Processor
(All default)
Allows you to control the number of enabled
cores (up to 16) in each processor.
L2 Cache Displays the level 2 cache size (up to 16 MB).
L3 Cache Displays the level 3 cache size (up to 16 MB).
NOTE: Minimum partition size is 2 MB.
Core Performance Boost Mode
(Enabled default)
NOTE: Also known as Turbo CORE.
In this mode, workloads using a lesser number
of cores boost the exercised cores to higher
performance states.

Power Management Screen
System Memory
PowerEdge R815 and R715 systems configured with two memory modules per
channel support up to 1600 MHz memory.
NOTE: For information about the memory configuration guidelines, see your system’s
Hardware Owner’s Manual at support.dell.com/manuals.
System Memory Update—PowerEdge R815
• 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB single- and dual-rank RDIMMs support speeds up to
1600 MHz.
• 32 GB quad-rank RDIMMs support speeds up to 1066 MHz.
• Up to 1 TB of memory (using 32 GB RDIMMs) is supported.
Option Description
Power Management Options are OS Control, Custom, and
Maximum Performance. The BIOS pre-
configures the power settings on this screen as
follows:
• OS Control sets the processor power to OS
DBPM
, the fan power to Minimum Power ,
and the memory power to
Maximum
Performance
. In this setting, all processor
performance information is passed from the
system BIOS to the operating system for
control. The operating system sets the
processor performance based on processor
utilization.
•
Maximum Performance sets all fields to
Maximum Performance .
• If you select
Custom , you can configure each
option independently.

Table 1 and Table 2 show the possible memory configurations using 16 GB and
32 GB RDIMMs in two- or four-processor systems.
NOTE: DIMMs A1-A8 are assigned to processor 1, DIMMs B1-B8 are assigned to
processor 2, and so on.
