Icon Description
1 Power-on indicator, power
button
The power-on indicator lights when the system power is
on. The power button controls the power supply output to
the system.
NOTE: On ACPI-compliant operating systems, turning
off the system using the power button causes the
system to perform a graceful shutdown before power
to the system is turned off.
2 NMI button Used to troubleshoot software and device driver errors
when using certain operating systems. This button can be
pressed using the end of a paper clip.

3 System identification button The identification buttons on the front and back panels
can be used to locate a particular system within a rack.
When one of these buttons is pushed, the LCD panel on
the front and the system status indicator on the back
flashes blue until one of the buttons is pushed again.
Press to toggle the system ID on and off. If the system
hangs during POST, press and hold the system ID button
for more than five seconds to enter BIOS progress mode.
To reset the iDRAC (if not disabled in F2 iDRAC setup)
press and hold for more than 15 seconds.
4 Video connector Connects a VGA display to the system.
5 LCD menu buttons Allows you to navigate the control panel LCD menu.
6 LCD panel Displays system ID, status information, and system error
messages. The LCD lights blue during normal system
operation. The LCD lights amber when the system needs
attention, and the LCD panel displays an error code
followed by descriptive text.
NOTE: If the system is connected to AC power and an
error is detected, the LCD lights amber regardless of
whether the system is turned on.
7 USB connectors (2) Allows you to connect USB devices to the system. The
ports are USB 2.0 compliant.
8 Information tag A slide-out label panel, which allows you to record system
information, such as Service Tag, NIC, MAC address, and
so on as per your need.
9 Hard drives (8) • Up to eight 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch hot-swappable
hard drives.
• Up to four 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch hot-swappable hard
drives on software RAID systems.
10 Optical drive (optional) One optional SATA DVD-ROM drive or DVD+/-RW drive.
NOTE: DVD devices are data only.
11 Dual slot hard-drive blanks

NOTE: Dual slot hard-drive blanks are available only
on software RAID systems. The blank hard-drive slots

LCD Panel Features
The system's LCD panel provides system information and status and error messages to indicate when the system is
operating correctly or when the system needs attention. See LCD Error Messages for information about specific error
codes.
• The LCD backlight lights blue during normal operating conditions and lights amber to indicate an error condition.
• The LCD backlight is off when the system is in standby mode and can be turned on by pressing either the Select,
Left, or Right button on the LCD panel.
• The LCD backlight remains off if LCD messaging is turned off through the iDRAC utility, the LCD panel, or other
tools.

Home Screen
The Home screen displays user-configurable information about the system. This screen is displayed during normal
system operation when there are no status messages or errors. When the system is in standby mode, the LCD backlight
turns off after five minutes of inactivity if there are no error messages. Press one of the three navigation buttons (Select,
Left, or Right) to view the Home screen.
To navigate to the Home screen from another menu, continue to select the up arrow until the Home icon is
displayed, and then select the Home icon.

From the Home screen, press the Select button to enter the main menu.
Setup Menu
NOTE: When you select an option in the Setup menu, you must confirm the option before proceeding to the next
action.
Option Description
iDRAC Select DHCP or Static IP to configure the network mode. If Static IP is selected, the available fields are IP,
Subnet (Sub), and Gateway (Gtw). Select Setup DNS to enable DNS and to view domain addresses. Two
separate DNS entries are available.
Set error Select SEL to display LCD error messages in a format that matches the IPMI description in the SEL. This is
useful when trying to match an LCD message with an SEL entry.
Select Simple to display LCD error messages in a simplified user-friendly description. See System Error
Messages for a list of messages in this format.
Set home Select the default information to be displayed on the LCD Home screen. See View Menu to see the options
and option items that can be set as the default on the Home screen.
View Menu
NOTE: When you select an option in the View menu, you must confirm the option before proceeding to the next
action.
Option Description
iDRAC IP Displays the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses for the iDRAC7. Addresses include DNS (Primary and Secondary),
Gateway, IP, and Subnet (IPv6 does not have Subnet).
MAC Displays the MAC addresses for iDRAC, iSCSI, or Network devices.
Name Displays the name of the Host, Model, or User String for the system
Number Displays the Asset tag or the Service tag for the system.
Power Displays the power output of the system in BTU/hr or Watts. The display format can be configured in the
Set home submenu of the Setup menu.
Temperature Displays the temperature of the system in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The display format can be configured in
the Set home submenu of the Setup menu.

Link indicator is green The NIC is connected to a valid network at its maximum port speed (1 Gbps or 10
Gbps).
Link indicator is amber The NIC is connected to a valid network at less than its maximum port speed.
Activity indicator is blinking green Network data is being sent or received.
Power Indicator Codes
Each AC power supply has an illuminated translucent handle and each DC power supply (when available) has an LED
that serves as an indicator to show whether power is present or whether a power fault has occurred.

CAUTION: When correcting a power supply mismatch, replace only the power supply with the
flashing indicator. Swapping the opposite power supply to make a matched pair can result in an
error condition and unexpected system shutdown. To change from a High Output configuration to a
Low Output configuration or vice versa, you must power down the system.

CAUTION: AC power supplies support both 220 V and 110 V input voltages. When two identical
power supplies receive different input voltages, they can output different wattages, and trigger a
mismatch.
CAUTION: If two power supplies are used, they must be of the same type and have the same
maximum output power.
CAUTION: Combining AC and DC power supplies is not supported and triggers a mismatch.
Flashing
green
When hot-adding a power supply, this indicates that the power supply is mismatched with the other
power supply (in terms of efficiency, feature set, health status, and supported voltage). Replace the
power supply that has the flashing indicator with a power supply that matches the capacity of the
other installed power supply.
Power Indicator Codes For Non-Redundant Power Supply
The non-redundant power supply has a status indicator and a self-diagnostic button. The self-diagnostic button is used
to perform a quick health check on the non-redundant power supply of the system.

Using The System Setup And Boot Manager
System Setup enables you to manage your system hardware and specify BIOS-level options.
The following keystrokes provide access to system features during startup:
Keystroke Description
<F2> Enters the System Setup.
<F10> Enters System Services, which opens the Dell Lifecycle Controller 2 (LC2). The Dell LC2 supports systems
management features such as operating system deployment, hardware diagnostics, platform updates, and
platform configuration, using a graphical user interface. The exact LC2 feature set is determined by the
iDRAC license purchased. For more information, see the Dell LC2 documentation.
<F11> Enters the BIOS Boot Manager or the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Boot Manager,
depending on the system's boot configuration.
<F12> Starts Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) boot.
From the System Setup, you can:
• Change the NVRAM settings after you add or remove hardware
• View the system hardware configuration
• Enable or disable integrated devices
• Set performance and power management thresholds
• Manage system security
You can access the System Setup using the:
• Standard graphical browser, which is enabled by default
• Text browser, which is enabled using Console Redirection
To enable Console Redirection, in System Setup, select System BIOS → Serial Communication screen → Serial
Communication, select On with Console Redirection.
NOTE: By default, help text for the selected field is displayed in the graphical browser. To view the help text in the
text browser, press <F1>.
Choosing The System Boot Mode
System Setup enables you to specify the boot mode for installing your operating system:
• BIOS boot mode (the default) is the standard BIOS-level boot interface.
• UEFI boot mode is an enhanced 64-bit boot interface based on Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)
specifications that overlays the system BIOS.
You must select the boot mode in the Boot Mode field of the Boot Settings screen of System Setup. Once you specify the
boot mode, the system boots in the specified boot mode and you then proceed to install your operating system from that

mode. Thereafter, you must boot the system in the same boot mode (BIOS or UEFI) to access the installed operating
system. Trying to boot the operating system from the other boot mode will cause the system to halt at startup.
NOTE: Operating systems must be UEFI-compatible to be installed from the UEFI boot mode. DOS and 32-bit
operating systems do not support UEFI and can only be installed from the BIOS boot mode.

Entering System Setup
1. Turn on or restart your system.
2. Press <F2> immediately after you see the following message:
<F2> = System Setup
If your operating system begins to load before you press <F2>, allow the system to finish booting, and then restart
your system and try again.
Responding To Error Messages
If an error message is displayed while the system is booting, make a note of the message. For more information, see
System Error Messages.
NOTE: After installing a memory upgrade, it is normal for your system to display a message the first time you start
your system.
Using The System Setup Navigation Keys
Keys Action
Up arrow Moves to the previous field.
Down arrow Moves to the next field.
<Enter> Allows you to type in a value in the selected field (if applicable) or follow the link in the field.
Spacebar Expands or collapses a drop-down list, if applicable.
<Tab> Moves to the next focus area.
NOTE: For the standard graphics browser only.
<Esc> Moves to the previous page till you view the main screen. Pressing <Esc> in the main screen displays a
message that prompts you to save any unsaved changes and restarts the system.
<F1> Displays the System Setup help file.
NOTE: For most of the options, any changes that you make are recorded but do not take effect until you restart the
system.
