DEVIFLEX - VERTICAL SURVEY
This procedure description is a short guide in how to perform a DeviFlex survey
in vertical boreholes. It is required that the reader knows how to perform a
regular DeviFlex survey.
The operation will be described step-by-step and provide information necessary
for a successful operation.

4) Remove the spear head from the DeviFlex and replace it with the Orientation Unit.

1) Perform a DeviFlex survey over the whole borehole length.
2) Check the survey data and find at which depth the inclination reaches -88.5°, and the azimuth shows
stable results.
3) Pull out a length of drill string equal to the depth found in step 2) + 6 meters.

5) Connect the DeviFlex to the PDA and enter the Online window. Align the bubble level on the Orientation
Unit with Gravity Toolface (Gr. Toolface) of 0°.
6) Tighten the adjustment nut to keep the DeviFlex and the Orientation Unit aligned.

7) Start the DeviFlex with the Oriented Rods option checked. Use 3 meter depth interval.

8) Insert the DeviFlex with Orientation Unit into the drill string, and fasten it by rotating the handles clockwise.
9) Rotate the drill string until the side with the bubble level points towards north, or any known direction.
Use complimentary optical sight for optimal accuracy.

10) Add a new drill rod and do the first“Mark”on the PDA.
11) Perform the survey by adding new drill rods without rotating the drill string. Mark the top and bottom
of the drill rods to ensure no rotational movement occur as the drill string is lowered down.
12) Survey until the drill bit reaches hole bottom. Pull out drill rods to retrieve the DeviFlex and download
data.
13) Transfer the results from both surveys as hole index 1 and 2 in a DeviSoft project. (If the surveys were
performed in seperate projects, save the files and use the“File“- “Import from other projects”function).
14) Let the oriented run be the active index and open the“Edit” window.

15) Click“Merge Vertical” and enter the end depth of the vertical survey, and the hole index of the normal
survey. Click“Start”.
16) The true borehole trajectory is now presented in the index of the oriented survey.
