POWER
Installing the Batteries
1 Slide and lift the battery door to open.
2 Slide the left battery into position, observing the
polarity (+/-) shown on unit’s back panel.
3 Easethe right battery into position, observing the
samepolarity indicator.
4 Replace the battery door.

Replacing the Batteries
If thebatteryvoltageissufficient,theRedButt indicator
will lightduringtapeoperations.
Replacethebatteriesif theReclBatt indicator does
not light or if it is dimly lit .
Caution: Leaking batteries can damage your unit.
TherefbreJfyou are not going to use the unit for an
extended time period, remove the batteries. Dispose of
all used batteries in accordance with applicable safety
laws.
GET STARTED
Loading the Cassette
1 Lift the cassettecompartment lid to open.
2 Remove the packing foam cushion if still in the
cassettecompartment.
3 Insert the cassette,exposed tapetoward you.
4 Close the cassettecompartment lid.
5 Rewind or fast forward the tape, if needed.
Fast Forwarding or Rewinding
1 Pressthe Stop button to stop the tape.
2 PresstheFF orRewbutton,thenpresstheStop
button.

Resetting the DigitalTape Counter .
The counter showstherelative tapeposition, not feet
or inchesor time.

Pressthe Resetbutton to reset counter to “000.”
RECORD
Standard Recording ’
1 Move the Diet. Conf. switch to Diet.
2 Move the VOX switch to Off.
3 Pressthe Record button to record.
4 Move the Pause switch up to temporarily stop
recording, then down to resume recording.
5 Pressthe Stop button to stop recording.
Voice-activated Recording
Usethe soundof your voice to activaterecord
automatically. When you talk, theunit will start
recording. When you stoptalking for aslong as4 to
8 seconds,theunit will stoprecording. However,
variationsin your voice level during record will not
stoptherecording.
1 Move the Diet. Conf. switch to Diet.
2 Move the VOX switch to On.
3 Pressthe Record button.

Use the Volume control to adjust
microphonesensitivity to your voice. Theunit should
recordwhenyou speakandpausewhenyou stop
speaking.
Increasevolume by turning the control in the +
direction if voices do not activate recording.
Decmse volumebyturningthecontrolinthe- direction
if recordingdoesnotstopwhentalkingstops.
Pressthe Stop button to stop record.
Note: Ifthefirstfewwordsyouspeakactivaterecordbut
are not recorded,say an extra word to start
record
before
you dictate.
Conference Recording
Useanyof thesemicrophoneswhenyourecorda
conference:thebuilt-inmicrophone,theremote
microphone,ortheconferencemicrophone
If using the conference microphone, plug it into the
MIC jack. (If not, omit this step.)
Move theDiet. Conf. switch to Conf. to increase
microphone sensitivity.
If desired, move the VOX switch to On.
Pressthe Record button to record.
Move thePause switch up to temporarily stop
recording, then down to resume recording.
Pressthe Stop button to stop recording.
Note: Be sure to remove the cassette after you have
finished your recording session.

Recording a Cue
Mark any importantpassagein your recording by
inserting acueon the tape. A cueis a distinct
audibletone. Recording acuewill enableyou to
find this passagequickly during playback.

Hold the
Cue
button during record for
approximately 1second.
Note:
A cue is NOT automatically detected by
Dictaphone desktop transcribe machines.
Pausing
Usethe
PAUSE
switch to temporarily stopany of
theseoperations- playback, record,fast-forward or
rewind - andthenresumetheoperation.
To Move the
pause
PAUSE
switch up.

Editing Dictation
1 Pressthe
REW, FF
or
PLAY
button to locate the
dictation you want to edit.
2 Pressthe
STOP
button to stop the tape.
3 Pressthe
REC
button, and dictate your edits.

STOP
button when done.

Reviewing Dictation
Rewind to thestartingpoint of thedictation.

Adjusting Playback Speed
The TapeSpeedswitch on thebottom of theunit has
threeplayback speedsettings:Slow,Norm (for
normal), andFast.Thesesettingsapply to playback
only andnot to record.

Locating Audio during Playback
Usethis procedureto locatethedictation
recordedon the tape.
1 Pressthe Play button.
2 Pressand hold the
FF
or Rew button.
3 Listen to the high speedaudio to
determine the location of recordings:
Noise = voice, Silence = blank tape
4 Listen for a low-pitched tone, indicating the
presence of a previously recorded cue.
5 Releasethe
FF
or
Rew
button to resume
playback at the desired location.
PROTECT CASSETTE TAPE
Protecting from Accidental
Overwrite
l
Break out the tab(s) from the top of the
cassette,using a pen or another sharp
instrument.
Protecting One Side
1 Hold cassetteso that you can read the label
on the side you want to protect (side 1or
side 2).
2 Removethetabontheupperrightofcassette.
