This secon will help you understand the operaon of your new electric bicycle
and the common terms and components involved. If you are familiar with what
an electric bike is and how they operate then you can skip over this secon.
Otherwise, we recommend that you familiarise yourself with these terms.
An electric bike consists of mulple complex electronic components that are
powered from the baery. The main components of an electric bike are:
A) Electric Motor
B) Motor Controller
C) Baery
D) Handlebar Display
E) Throle (Oponal)
F) Pedal Assistance Sensor and Magnet Ring
G) Electric Brake Cut-os (E-brake cut-os)
EBIKE COMPONENTS AND TERMINOLOGY

A) Electric Motor
The muscle. This component applies rotaonal force to the wheels and propels
the bicycle forward. Motors can either be hub drive (in the wheel) or mid drive.
B) Motor Controller
The brain. This complex piece of electronics takes input from other components
and operates the motor. The motor controller is generally built into the frame
of the electric bicycle, but can be found aached to the motor or outer frame.
C) Baery
The heart. Without this component there will be no speedy take o or smooth
runs over hills. The baery of an electric bike is generally a Lithium Ion type
(though some are sll lead acid). They have baery management systems that
ensure the safe operaon and charging of the baery.
D) Handlebar Display
The ears and eyes. This component takes in input from the rider and
communicates it to the motor controller. It can also use that informaon to
restrict the motor controller’s operaon. This device usually allows the rider to
change pedal assistance levels and check baery levels.
E) Throle (Oponal)
This device is controlled by the rider and is located on the handlebasr. When
the rider uses the throle, it will propel the bike forward.
F) Pedal Assistance Sensor and Magnet Ring
Another input to the motor controller. This component detects the rotaon of
the pedals and alerts the motor controller. The motor controller then acvates
power to the motor based on the seng requested on the handlebar display.
G) Electric Brake Cut-os (E-brake cut-os)
Typically aached to the brakes or built in to the brakes, this component
detects the actuaon of the brakes and cuts power to the motor. This is an
added safety feature built into most electric bikes that use pedal assistance.

This secon will help you complete the inial setup of your electric bike,
including the unboxing and assembly.
ASSEMBLY
The moment of unboxing of your new electric bike is an excing me and,
while we wouldn't ever want to take that from you, we do urge cauon during
the unboxing process. Enthusiascally cung into the box with a cardboard
knife or pair of scissors may lead to unintended scratches or damage to your
new bike before you've even had a chance to ride it, and nobody wants that.
We recommend having a partner on hand to help you remove the bicycle from
its packaging as doing it by yourself can be a dicult process. Your bike may be
quite heavy, and making it a two-person job ensures you'll be able to get it out
of the box without the risk of injury to yourself or your bike.
Carefully remove all packaging and wrapping from each secon of the bicycle
frame, always being mindful not to damage any part of the bike or its
components with any tools you may use.

Installaon of the front wheel is made simple with the quick release axle. You
will nd the quick release axle zip ed to the spokes of your front wheel.
ASSEMBLY—FRONT WHEEL
Insert the axle through the front wheel hub and loosely screw on the nut.
Ensure that you insert the spring ahead of the nut. You can now place the front
wheel in the front forks of the bicycle frame. Insert the wheel as shown below.
Close the axle clamp to lock the wheel on the bike. If you nd that this is quite
easy to do, you may need to ghten the nut a lile more unl it is rmly
clamped.

It is likely that the front brakes will not be aached when you go to install the
front wheel. This secon will give you a basic, step-by-step guide on how to
ASSEMBLY—FRONT BRAKES
Locate the front brakes. One side of the brakes will have a clip insert to hold the
cable line. Simply reinsert the cable line into the clip as shown in the pictures.
Your brakes may need adjustment to properly align them to the rim of the
wheel. You can do this with a 5mm Allen key. On each brake pad is a bolt that,
when loosened, will allow you to reposion the brake pads into a more suitable
locaon. Ideally, each brake pad will have a small gap between the pad and the
rim of the wheel.

Installaon of the handlebars is a simple process. Just follow the these steps:
ASSEMBLY—HANDLEBARS
Locate the handlebar folding joint. This can be seen in the top le picture.
Rotate this upwards to close the folding joint. Please note also that the Allen
bolt shown in the top le picture will adjust the steering alignment tension and
may require a small amount of adjustment aer the handlebars have been
installed.
Fold the main clamp upwards unl it ‘clicks’ into posion.

Installaon of the handlebars connued...
ASSEMBLY—HANDLEBARS
Li up the clamp on top of the handlebar stem and unscrew it. You can now
slide the lip out that will hold the handlebars in place. Place the handlebars on
the stem (make sure to center them) and slide the lip back over. Screw in the
clamp to hold them in place.
You can adjust the handlebar to the desired height, ensuring that the engraved
maximum handlebar height is not visible (insert these below the clamp). Close
the clamp as shown in the boom two pictures. If you nd it is too hard or too
easy to close, you should adjust the tension of the clamp by ghtening the
thumb screw while the clamp is open. This will ensure that the clamp is rmly
closed and no nuisance movement will occur.

All bicycles (electric bikes included) have le and right side pedals (for the
purposes of this explanaon, please assume we are referring to Le and Right
Pedals as they would be when seated on the bike). Make sure you idenfy
both. The pictured pedal has ‘R’ wrien on it to denote that it is the right side
pedal.
The right side pedal mounts to the right side crank and le side pedal to the le
crank. The right side pedal is a right hand thread, ghtened by turning
clockwise. The le side pedal is a le hand thread, ghtened by turning
anclockwise. It is essenal not to confuse the pedals and not to cross threads.
ASSEMBLY—PEDALS
ASSEMBLY—SEAT
Assembling the seat is the easiest part of
the process. Just open the seat post latch,
slide in the seat post and close the latch at
the desired height. Ensure the maximum
seat height marker is below the seat clamp
at all mes.
If the seat post is sliding into the clamp
when the clamp is closed, you may need to adjust the tension of the clamp. To
do this, rotate the clamp clockwise while the clamp is open to ghten. Aempt
to close clamp again at the desired ghtness.

Although most of the assembly process is now complete, there are some
addional checks that are recommended before embarking on your rst ride.
Though we at Dillenger perform an extensive safety check prior to the dispatch
of each of our bikes, we recommend that you go over each part of your new
bike with tools of your own from me to me. Regular maintenance will ensure
the safe and smooth operaon of your bike well into the future.
Check the acon of the brakes is set to the desired tension. This is an important
step — the last thing you want in an emergency situaon is to nd your brakes
are too so and unable to a stop. See the maintenance document for more
informaon on how to adjust your brake tension.
Check your tyre pressure prior to your rst ride. Most of the tyres are only
parally inated ahead of shipment. Please ensure that you inate your tyres
up to the pressure values listed on the side of the tyre wall.
Finally, prior to embarking on your maiden ride, we recommend taking a
moment to familiarise yourself with the performance controls outlined in this
manual. Ensure that there is adequate space in front of the bike before
beginning your rst ride and remember to wear a helmet at all mes.
Compleng these few tasks will ensure your rst ride, and every ride thereaer,
is a safe one.
We hope that you enjoy your new Dillenger electric bicycle and wish you a safe
onward journey.

This secon will detail how to remove the baery from the frame for storage,
travel or charging. To remove the baery from the bicycle frame follow these
steps:
OPERATION—BATTERY REMOVAL
Insert the key and turn. The baery will unlock from the frame and can now be
removed from the bike. Once the baery has been removed you can store it or
charge it as you so desire. To reinstall the baery, simply reinsert it into the
frame and lock the baery with the key.
Always have the baery locked into the bike with the key while the bike is in
use.
Firstly ensure that the bicycle has been placed into the folded posion (see
secon Operaon—Folding if your model allows for this). Locate the key hole
on the baery which is located sloed into the frame as pictured above.

This secon will detail exactly what a baery is, its features and how to
maintain good baery health over the course of its lifeme.
The baery should be charged once every month as a minimum to maintain
healthy cells. The best way to charge your baery is to plug it in aer every use,
and leave it on charge unl the indicator light shows the baery is fully
charged. It is not good pracce to only half or parally charge the baery.
The smart baery charger will ensure that the cells are charged to maximum
capacity, without overcharging the baery. Overcharging could cause damage
to the cells and possibly even re and nobody wants that. Our chargers are
designed to stop charging when the baery is fully charged, though we sll
strongly recommend observaon and charging in a re retardant area to ensure
nothing can go wrong.
A lile extra maintenance is required over and above a normal bicycle. One of
the main things you may come across is that your spokes need to be ghtened
more oen than a non-electric wheel. Check the ghtness of each spoke ideally
aer the rst 100km and then every 500km. As well as caring for your spoke
tension it’s important to do a check on all of your fasteners every few months.
It never hurts to go over your bike with tools, ghtening and checking
everything that can be checked. This will ensure you have a safe and well-
serviced bike.
The bike is water resistant, but not waterproof. It can therefore be used in a
light drizzle, but not a heavy downpour. Dry the bike o if you do get caught in
the rain, especially the display and the baery.

CARE TIPS

USER MANUAL OPIA
LAST UPDATED: 1/08/2018 20
There are a few things that you can do to increase the lifeme of your baery:
Try not to let your baery dwindle down to 0%.
The amount that you discharge your baery is correlated to the life cycle of the
baery. Reducing the total amount that you discharge your baery will in turn
increase the longevity of the baery’s life cycle.
Reduce strain in cold condions
Baeries are just like people, in the sense that geng either started on a cold
morning can be a challenge. Go easy on the bike in cold weather to prevent
unwanted strain on the system. Avoid going straight into full throle or highest
pedal assistance mode as well. Start out slow and increase over me to allow
the baery to gradually warm up as opposed to sharp increase in temperature.
If it helps, imagine that your baery isn’t a morning person and go from there.
Avoid operang in very high temperatures for long periods
Lithium Ion baeries can suer stress when exposed to high temperatures
avoid leaving your baery in sun for long periods of me, especially when fully
charged.
Maintain good charging habits
Ensure that you charge your baery aer each use or when the baery is low.
The smart baery systems that are built into each component will manage
individual cells.
How do I store my baery?
It is recommended that you discharge the baery down unl about 50%,
remove the baery from the frame and store in a dry, cool area. This will
ensure that the baery is in its natural state and is less likely to reduce the
health/lifeme of the baery. Do not leave your baery at a low charge for a
long periods of me.
