1. NOTES
1.1 Conformity Acceptance Procedure
This product was tested for conformity to the
Guidelines 93/42/EWG of the European Union
and has been found to satisfy all criteria of
these guidelines.
1.2 General Notes
• These Installation and Operating Instructions
form an integral part of the unit. They must
be kept close to the unit at all times. Precise
observance of these instructions is a pre-
condition for use of the unit for the intended
purpose and for its correct operation.
New personnel must be made aware of the
contents, and they should be passed on to
future operating staff.
• Safety for the operator as well as trouble-
free operation of the unit are only ensured if
use is made of Original Equipment
Manufactured parts. Furthermore, only those
accessories explicitly stated in the Installati-
on and Operating Instructions or
recommended by Dürr Dental may be used.
If other accessories are used, then Dürr
Dental can no longer guarantee safe
operation or smooth functioning of the
appliance. Any claims concerning damage
that arise from the use of other accessories
are inadmissible.
• Dürr Dental are only responsible for the
equipment with regard to safety, reliability
and proper functioning where assembly,
resettings, changes or modifications,
extensions and repairs have been carried
out by Dürr Dental or an agency authorized
by Dürr Dental and if the equipment is used
in conformity with the Installation and
Operating Instructions.
• These Installation and Operating Instructions
conform to the relevant version of the
equipment and the underlying safety
standards valid at the time of going to press.
All switches, processes, trade marks,
software programs and appliances named in
this document are registered names.
• Any reprinting of the technical
documentation, in whole or in part, is subject
to prior approval of Dürr Dental being given
in writing.
1.3 General Safety Notes
This appliance has been designed and
constructed by Dürr Dental so that correct
usage of the appliance is virtually free of any
possible injury or danger. In spite of this, we
feel it is our duty to mention the following
safety measures in order to prevent any
possible danger.
• When using this appliance all local and
relevant regulations must be observed!
Converting or modifying the appliance in
any way is strictly prohibited. In such cases,
any and all guarantees immediately become
invalid. The operation of modified
appliances can be punishable by law. In the
interests of trouble-free operation the
operator is responsible for observing these
regulations.
• Retain the packaging for possible return of
the product to the manufacturers. Ensure
that the packaging is kept out of the reach of
children. Only the original packaging
provides adequate protection during
transport of the unit.
Should return of the product to the
manufacturers be necessary during the
guarantee period, Dürr Dental accepts no
responsibility for damage occurring during
transport where the original packaging was
not used!
• This product is a technical medical
appliance and, as such, may only be
operated by trained personnel, or persons
who, as a result of specialist knowledge, are
familiar with this type of appliance.
• Before every use the operator must check
the functional safety and the condition of the
appliance.
• The operator must be knowledgeable in the
operation of the appliance.
• The product is not designed to be used in
medical treatment areas where there exists
the danger of explosion. Areas where
explosions could occur are those where
flammable anesthetic material, skin
cleansers, oxygen and skin disinfectants are
present. This appliance is not to be used in
areas where the atmosphere could cause
fire.

1.4 Notes concerning Medical
Appliances MPG
• This product is a technical medical
appliance and, as such, may only be
operated by trained personnel, or persons
who, as a result of specialist knowledge, are
familiar with this type of appliance.
• Do not lie multi-socket units on the floor.
• Other systems should not be plugged into
the same multi-socket unit.
1.5 Using Peripheral Devices
Only peripheral devices (computer,
monitor, printer) may be connected to
this appliance which conform to
standard IEC60950 (EN60950).
The PC-unit must be located away
from the patient treatment area (1.5m
from the patient). Where this is not
possible, then the PC-unit employed
must conform to the safety standard
IEC601-1 (EN60601-1).
• Units may only be connected to the system
or to other units when it has been
established that there is no reduction of
safety for the patient, the operator or the
environment through such connection.
Where it is not absolutely clear from the
documentation whether safety is reduced by
such connection, then the operator must
establish, e.g. by contacting either the
manufacturer or an expert, that there is no
reduction of safety for the patient, the
operator or the environment through such
connection.
1.6 Electrical Safety Notes
• The appliance may only be connected to an
earthed safety socket.
• Before connecting the appliance to the
power supply check that the electrical
current and the frequency of the device as
described on the appliance are compatible
with that of the power supply.
• Check the appliance and the power supply
cables for possible damage before
switching on. Damaged cables, plugs and
sockets must be replaced before use.
• Never touch open supply outlets and
patients simultaneously.

2. PRODUCT INFORMATION
2.1 Correct Usage
The Dürr VistaCam has been designed
exclusivley for the creation of intraoral and
extraoral images in dental medical surgeries
and clinics.
2.2 Incorrect Usage
Every usage which is not in accordance with
the Correct Usage above will lead to the
guarantees and warranties of Dürr Dental
becoming null and void. The operator is liable
for any damage arising through incorrect
usage.
2.3 Product Description
The Dürr VistaCam is a camera which provides
both intraoral as well as extraoral images. The
camera supplies a standardised video signal
(PAL or NTSC).
Only image viewing hardware may be
connected to the camera which satisfies all the
requirements of IEC 60601-1, as well as MPG,
European Guidelines for Medical Products 93/
42/EWG and all national rules and regulations.

6. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
VistaCam
consists of a Basis station (1), the handpiece
(6) with an IFC (Iris Focus Control) Optic and
handpiece holder (2).
The power supply unit is integrated into the
basis station: with or without the freeze module
depending on the version.
The camera electronics are integrated in the
handpiece.
Basis station and handpiece are connected
together by way of a cable.
The PC-solution calls for the handpiece to be
directly connected to the PC using a Y-
connector unit.
VistaCam CL
consists of a Basis station (1), the handpiece
(6) with IFC (Iris Focus Control) Optic and the
battery charger (5).
The power supply unit is integrated into the
basis station and the receiver: with or without
the freeze module depending on the version.
Inside the handpiece are the integrated
camera electronics.
The basis station and the handpiece are
connected to each other using a radio signal.
VistaCam and VistaCam CL
The IFC Optic component in the handpiece (6)
has been designed for macro, intraoral and
extraoral images. From macro to intraoral
range the IFC Optic has an extremely high
depth of field. In the extraoral range the IFC
Optic has a high light intensity. It has been
designed to provide optimum quality in every
application.
The image is picked up by the IFC Optic,
carried to the image sensor in the handpiece
(6), where it is now converted into a video
signal and transmitted to the monitor or other
image viewing hardware component (3) via
the Basis station (1).
Image viewing hardware components that may
be connected include, video monitor, video
printer with video monitor, or PC equipped
withFrame Grabber PCB and monitor
(according to section 1.5 regarding
connecting peripheral appliances).
The 6 white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes)
which are integrated into the handpiece
provide the necessary lighting.
The handpiece with the lighting is
automatically switched on as soon as it is
removed from its holder (2) or removed from
the battery charger unit (5).
The handpiece (6) can also be switched on
and off separately using a button located at
the bottom end of the handpiece, see fig. 14.
Freeze frame module and storage
Where the model type features the internal
save image feature - freeze frame module -
then the foot pedal (4) can be used to freeze
a frame (single image) or the Live-Mode can
be selected.
Furthermore the operator has the possibility of
storing up to 12 images to memory. Operation
of the delete key or, alternatively, by switching
off the appliance, all images will be deleted.

7. SET-UP
The plug and socket where the
Basis station (1) is to be connected
to the mains must be easily
accessible.
The VistaCam must not be set up
near any wash basins or the
spittoon. No water, even spray,
should come into contact with the
appliance.
when installation is onto a wall or
column then the electrical
connections must be pointing
downwards.
7.1 Room for Set-up
The room temperature must not fall below + 10
°C in winter and in summer must not rise
above + 40 °C.
7.2 Set-up Possibilities
• Wall mounting
Use the screws and the dowels provided to
fix the holder (13) to the wall and place the
Basis station (1) into the holder.
• Pipe mounting
The holder (13) can, with the aid of the
holding strap (14), be mounted either onto a
horizontal or a vertical pipe (15) as required

• Table Set-up
The Basis station can easily be placed onto
a table or other flat working surface.
Stick the rubber pads (16) supplied onto the
rear side of the

7.3 Attaching the handpiece holder
The handpiece holder (2) can be attached
directly to the Basis station or mounted at any
appropriate position in the vicinity of the
VistaCam (camera cable length 2 m).

8.3 PC-Solution

to the Y-adapter (19) using the camera
cable and to the PC.
(Cinch connection is signal input, Frame
Grabber board)
The Frame Grabber board has several
inputs.
Use the software in order to determine
the correct input connections
necessary.
Please observe the Operating
Instructions for the Frame Grabber
board or the appropriate software.
• Connect the foot pedal (4) to the PC (via
Game Port or serial port).

• Connect the BNC-video cable (21) or the S-
video signal cable to the Basis station (1)

9. COMMISSIONING
Do not put the appliance into
operation immediately. It should
first be allowed to warm up to room
temperature, otherwise dampness in the
form of condensation can accumulate,
which could damage the electronic
components when switching on.
The appliance must not be used in any way
that gives concern regarding safety!
The appliance may only be operated in a
safe and functional condition.
9.1 VistaCam
The handpiece must be handled
carefully at all times, it must not be
dropped or allowed to fall.
Scratches or dirt on the optical lens will
lead to a high loss in image quality.
• Insert the handpiece (6) into the handpiece
holder (2).
Position the handpiece holder so that the
handpiece can not possibly fall out.
• Plug the power cable (34) into the mains
supply socket.
• Press switch (12) on the Basis station (1) to
the “On” position. The green LED (31) now
lights and the VistaCam is on stand-by
mode.
• Switch on the image viewing appliance you
are using.
If necessary, adjust the signal input source
settings in the software, monitor or printer.
•Remove the handpiece from the handpiece
holder.
The handpiece is switched on and off
using a magnet and a Reed switch.
The live image is now displayed on the
image viewing appliance.
- Pressing button (44) briefly allows the
VistaCam to be switched on:
- pressing for longer (ca. 2 seconds)
allows the VistaCam to be switched off.
Pressing the button twice quickly activates the
mirror image of the image on the monitor,
see fig. 14.
Testing according to IEC 60601-1
After initial installation of the VistaCam, all
checks required according to IEC 60601-1
must be carried out and the results
documented,
e.g. patient static etc.

Always handle the handpiece (6)
carefully. It must not be allowed to

• Place the rechargeable battery (40) into the
handpiece.
Releasing the battery pack, see "12.1
Changing the battery"
• Plug the power cable (43) into a mains
supply socket.
• Place the handpiece in the battery
charger (5).
When the green LED (42) blinks then
the fast charging is in operation.
Depending on the state of the battery
level the battery pack will take
maximum 1.5h to recharge.
When the green LED (42) is lit, the
rechargeable battery is loaded (battery level
stays constant) and
VistaCam is on stand-by mode.
The full period of use, without
recharging the camera, has now been
reached
(ca. 45min).
• Switch on the image viewing appliance you
are using.
(e.g. video-monitor).
• Set the switch (12) on the Basis station (1) to
“On”, see fig. 10.
• Remove the handpiece from the battery
charger unit (5). The VistaCam is now
switched on. The live image is now
displayed on the image viewing appliance.
A single short press on the switch (44)
allows the VistaCam to be switched
On / Off.
Pressing the button twice quickly
serves to activate the mirror image of
the monitor image.
The VistaCam will switch off when the
button is held down for approx. 2
seconds.

Where more than one treatment unit
(i.e. chair) is served or where there is
radio transmission interference then
using the basis station (1) and the
handpiece (6) it is possible to choose
a new channel.

Connections to Basis station (1)
• Turn the adjustable ring on the handpiece to
"Extraoral", see section 10.2 Operating the
IFC Optic.
• Select a channel from 1 to 5 (fig. 16) at the
Basis station (1) using the DIP-switch (15).
Channel 1 is factory preset.
Channel selection at the Handpiece (6)
• Switch off the handpiece using switch (44)
• Hold button (44) on the handpiece down.
The LEDs (47) will now blink according to
the current channel selection,
e.g. channel 5 = 5 x blinks.
• As soon as a live image is obtained at the
image viewing appliance, release button ,
the channel will now be stored.
The stand-by display (45) at the Basis
station (1) shows the quality of the
radio signal received.
green = good reception
orange - rot = from bad to no
reception
Where the image viewing hardware is
too weak or slow then it is possible no
image appears.
Carry out the following procedure in
this case:
Example settings:
• Set the Basis station to channel 2.
• Hold button (44) on the handpiece down.
Wait until the LEDs on the handpiece blink
twice.
• Release the button and the channel will be
stored.
After a short pause the live image will
appear on the image viewing appliance.

10.1 Switching on VistaCam and
VistaCam CL
Removal of the handpiece from its handpiece
holder (VistaCam) or from the battery charger
(VistaCam CL) automatically switches the
unit on.
The LEDs of the handpiece light up.
Pressing the button (44) quickly a
single time allows the VistaCam or the
VistaCam CL to be switched On / Off,
see fig. 17.
Pressing the button (2) quickly a single
time allows the mirror image of the
monitor image to be activated.
The VistaCam will switch off when the
button is held down for approx. 2
seconds.
10.2 Operating the IFC Optic
Turn the adjusting ring (48) on the handpiece
in order to focus the IFC Optic.
Due to the extreme depth of field of the
VistaCam it will not be necessary to
readjust the focus once the camera is
in the mouth of the patient.

10.3 Drawing the disposable
protective cover over the IFC
Optic
For hygienic reasons when using
the VistaCam in the intraoral area
then a disposable protective cover
must be used.
After (single) use the disposable
protective cover must be carefully
peeled off and disposed of
correctly.
• Hold the handpiece such that the window of
the optic itself faces downwards.
• Lift the white edging of the disposable
protective cover and carefully slide the IFC
Optic into it
The disposable protective cover
should be so applied such that the
plastic side of the packaging should
be with the labeling facing upwards.
• Once the tip of the optic is completely at the
top, the sheath should be stretched a further
2-3 mm so that the cover is tight.
• Use the tip of a finger to carefully press the
sheath tight against the window of the optic
itself, in order to remove any small air
pockets that may be present between the
sheath and the window of the optic.

• Hold the white edge of the disposable
protective cover tightly and peel the upper
PVC side of the packaging towards the IFC
Optic.
• Peel the paper underside from the IFC Optic
towards the handpiece.
In order to achieve beter image quality
when carrying out extraoral images, it
is advantageous to work without the
disposable protective cover.
10.4 Taking images
The foot pedal can be used to work
with images on the image viewing
appliance and switch from Live to
Freeze Mode (freeze frame), to store
images or to delete images.

After completing any image taking,
the handpiece must always be
disinfected.
We strongly recommend the usage
of disinfection cloths, e.g. FD 350.
10.5 Care of handpiece
• The handpiece can now be replaced in the
holder or placed in the battery charger.
The handpiece must never be
placed on a flat surface, e.g.
working surface attached to a
treatment unit (danger of falling) or
placed between surgical
instruments (the Optic can easily be
damaged on contact with metal
objects).

When the VistaCam CL Optic (60)
blinks six times then this signifies that
the battery life is sufficient for only
approximately another 5 minutes of
handpiece use
. Carry out the following procedure in
this case:
• Place the handpiece in the battery charger
(min. 5 minutes).
When the green LED (42) blinks then the fast
charging is in operation.
If the level of the battery is too low then the
blinking starts only after c. 1 minute and ends
after about 2 minutes and the LED (42) is lit up
= incorrect charging.
Carry out the following procedure in this case:
Remove the battery for a short period and then
replace in the battery charger.
The charging procedure will restart.
Green LED (42) lit = battery is charged. The
maximum period of use, approx. 45 min, has
been reached.

11. CLEANING
11.1 Cleaning the optical window
We strongly recommend using the
special Cleaning Set for Dürr
VistaCam-Optic (60), order number
2101-025-50.
Using a disinfection cloth, or a
liquid disinfectant for cleaning the
optical window (60) is NOT
recommended. These could have dirt
deposits.
11.2 Cleaning and disinfecting the
handpiece and all accessories
In order that the surface of the
handpiece is not damaged, do not
use any sharp or abrasive cleaning
agents or methods: the
handpiece (6) must NOT be put in an
autoclave or cleaned using a
immersion bath or spray
disinfectant.
These could all lead to the
handpiece being destroyed.
We strongly recommend the use of
disinfection cloths,
e.g. DÜRR FD 350
