CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.0 Safety Su ary
Hig current, voltage, and rotating parts can cause serious or fatal injury. T e use of electric mac inery, like all ot er uses of
concentrated power and rotating equipment, may be azardous. Installing, operating, and maintaining electric mac inery
s ould be performed by qualified personnel, in accordance wit applicable provisions of t e National Electrical Code and
sound local practices. Failure to comply wit t ese precautions or wit specific warnings elsew ere in t is manual violates
safety standards of design, manufacture, and intended use of t e instrument. Dynapar assumes no liability for t e customer's
failure to comply wit t ese requirements.
Rotating Machinery
Avoid contact wit rotating parts. Avoid by-passing or rendering inoperative any safety guards or protection devices. Avoid
extended exposure in close proximity to mac inery wit ig noise levels. Use proper care and procedures in andling, lifting,
installing, operating and maintaining t e equipment.
Before Installation
Safe maintenance practices wit qualified personnel is imperative. Before starting maintenance procedures, be positive t at, (1)
equipment connected to t e s aft will not cause mec anical rotation, (2) main mac ine windings ave been disconnected and
secured from all electrical power sources, and (3) all accessory devices associates wit t e work area ave been de-energized.
If ig potential insulation test is required, follow procedures and precautions outlined in NEMA standards MG-1.
Grounding
Improperly grounding t e frame of t e mac ine can cause serious or fatal injury to personnel. Grounding of t e mac ine frame
and structure s ould comply wit t e National Electrical Code and wit sound local practices. C eck wiring diagram before
connecting power.
Do Not Operate In An Explosive At osphere
Do not operate t e instrument in t e presence of flammable gases or fumes. Operating any electrical instrument in suc an
environment constitutes a definite safety azard.
Keep Away Fro Live Circuits
Operating personnel must not remove instrument covers. Component replacement and internal adjustments must be made by
qualified maintenance personnel. Do not replace components wit power cable connected. To avoid injuries, always
disconnect power and disc arge circuits before touc ing t em.
Do Not Substitute Parts Or Modify Instru ent
Do not install substitute parts or perform any unaut orized modification to t e instrument. Introducing additional azards is
dangerous. Return t e instrument to an aut orized Dynapar representative for service and repair to ensure t at safety features
are maintained.
