1.3 INSERT THE SIM CARD LIKE THIS
A SIM card is needed for phoning. It is
inserted this way:
DTurn around the closed mobile
phone, slide the battery cover down
with your thumb approx. 5mm and
then take it off.

already in the device). Raise and lift
or pull out the lower corners.

1.5 HOW TO CHARGE THE BATTERY
Please note: Charge the battery for at
least 4 hours before the first phone call.
DPut the mains plug into a mains
socket.
DPut the recharger cable connector
into the jack at the top end of the
mobile phone.

DDuring the charging process, a large battery symbol and charging will be
indicated on the mobile phone. Furthermore, the signal light flashes in orange
if there is contact between the charger and the mobile phone (begins to
flash approx 10 seconds after putting in the recharger cable).
DAs soon as the battery is fully charged, Battery Full appears in the display and
the orange signal light stops flashing and remains constantly lit.
DDisconnect the recharger cable from the mobile phone as well as from the
socket.
1.6 THE TIME HAS COME: SWITCH ON
D-Slide up the cover on the left of the mobile phone. By doing this, the
mobile phone switches on.
DWhen using a new SIM-card for the first time the 4-digit PIN-Code must be
entered. The PIN-Code prevents someone else from switching on your mobile
phone. However, it does not prevent someone else from using it if it is already
switched on. Please obtain the PIN-Code from your Network Operator’s
details (you received an information pack with your SIM card)..
DSlide open the mobile phone for PIN-Code entry and enter the PIN-Code with
the numerical keypad. Confirm with (Delete possible entry errors when
typing the numbers with .)

1.7 SWITCH OFF PIN-CODE
To avoid problems later on through forgetting the PIN-Code, we recommend
that the PIN query is switched off. (However, this is not possible with some
network operators.)
DWith the sliding cover open, access Settings in the menu with and select
with . Access the PIN query menu item by pressing several times and
selecting with Select Off with . (In case the Off option is not already
darkly shaded, access it by pressing ). The 4-digit PIN-Code will now be
requested again.
DEnter the PIN-Code with the keypad and confirm with .
DGo back into Stand-by mode with or sliding the cover back.
1.8 SET DATE AND TIME
DWith the sliding cover open, access Settings in the menu with and select
with .
DAccess Time & Date with and select with .
DSlect Set Time with .
DSet the hours with two digits via the numerical keypad or
(e.g. “09” for 9 AM) and save with .
DSet the minutes with two digits via the numerical keypad or and save
with . Now Time Set appears in the display.
DContinue to Set Date with and select with Same procedure as with
setting the time.

2.1 DO NOT WORRY IF YOU GET LOST IN THE MENU
DWhenever you get carried away in the menu, simply close the sliding cover
of the mobile phone. By doing this you will see the familiar view again on the
screen! (=Stand-by mode)
DBy pressing
several times you will also quickly get out of risky situations ...
DIf the mobile phone is not used for over two minutes, the screen switches itslef
off. The mobile phone is now in economy mode but still ready to receive. The
screen becomes active again by shortly pressing a random button.
2.2 TAKING A CALL
On an incoming call the telephone rings and vibrates. The green signal light
flashes and the number and name of the caller can be read on the screen (if
saved in the phone book).
DTake a call with or make one by opening the cover. You can also phone
when the cover is closed as well as open.
DTo end the call press If your interlocutor hangs up first, this is no longer
necessary.
Please note: Closing the open cover does not end the call.
DTo refuse a call while the phone is ringing press .
DIf you do not want to refuse the call but would prefer it not to ring any further
(e.g. you are sitting in a waiting room), press the -button on the volume
control and the ring will be muted for this call.
2.3 SELECT WITH THE NUMERICAL KEYPAD
DSlide open the mobile phone and enter the telephone number via the
numerical keypad– ALWAYS with the area dialling code. Example: Enter
“040789789” for number 789789 with area dialling code 040/.
DEstablish telephone connection with .
DEnd call with . If your interlocutor hangs up first, pressing ( ) is no longer
necessary.
2.4 HANDS FREE
You can turn the hands free equipment on or off with the button.

2.5 REPEAT SELECTION
DSlide the cover open to at least 15 mm, keep depressed for 3 seconds.

With the sliding cover closed, the phone book is displayed in list form meaning
names are sorted alphabetically.

necessary to press .

2.7 PHONE BOOK MAINTENANCE BY SMS
To spare you storing new telephone numbers in the phone book, you can give this
job to your family and friends as well as acquaintances.
DThey would simply have to send an SMS (text message) to your mobile number
in the following format:
#Name#Number# DExample: #Tobias#06649876543#
For a number it once again concerns inputting telephone number including
the area dialling code or the complete mobile number beginning with “0”
must be given. However it is recommended that all numbers are to be saved
in international format with the country dialling code.
For example with the Austrian national dialling code:

DSaving into your phone book takes place automatically upon receipt of the
SMS.
Please note: If your SMS memory is full, no phone book entry can be received by
SMS. (See chapter 4.1.6)
However, if this function is not required, set SMS Entry in Phone Book to “Off” in the
SMS Messages menu.

With the sliding cover closed, alphabetically sorted phone book entries are legible
in the display (in case already saved).

If this menu item is darkly shaded, the last number dialled will be displayed.

stamp of the individual callers.

■3.1.4 Received SMS’s
If this menu item is darkly shaded, the number of newly received SMS’s (= text
messages) is displayed.
With
, the list of SMS’s received appears. Each SMS is displayed with a
number or name (as long as they are saved in the phone book) as well as
the date and time stamp. If an SMS is indicated with an “N”, it is “New” and
therefore unread
DSelect the desired SMS with .
DPress , to read the SMS.
DPage down the text with until you come to the further subitems (com-
mands). (See chapter 4.1)
DCome out of the submenu with .
■3.1.5 Battery indicator and signal strength
DOne bar in the battery indicator corresponds to a capacity of 25 % (4 Bars
100 %). If the battery charge status falls below 25% and the signal light at the
bottom of the mobile phone flashes in red, charge the battery with the aid
of the charger cable. (See chapter 1.6)
DOn the right you will see the reception strength. If this amounts to less than
25% the send-receive and hearing quality are largely restricted when pho-
ning. Try to find a place for better reception strength when phoning.

3.2 ALARM CLOCK
Your emporia LifePLUS mobile phone is equipped with an alarm clock which is
quite similar to a normal alarm clock.
■3.2.1 Switching the alarm clock on and off
DTo switch on the alarm clock, move the -slide on the right of the mobile
phone upwards and confirm the alarm time with .
DTo switch it off move the -slide downwards.

■3.2.2 Set or alter alarm time
DMove the -slide upwards. Should the alarm clock already be switched on,
slide ( -slide upwards), briefly down and back up again. The entry field for
the alarm time appears on the screen.
DSet the hours with two digits (e.g “07” fo 7AM) via the keypad or with
and save with .
DSet the minutes with two digits (e.g “07” fo 7AM) via the keypad or with
and save with .
DAfter a confirmation report, the mobile phone returns to stand-by mode. An
alarm clock symbol appears in the header.
Please note: The alarm clock symbol in the header is only visible if “Header shows/
Time & Symbols” is selected in the Settings menu (See chapter 4.4.2).

DTo be woken or reminded again 5 minutes later, select the snooze function
during the alarm signal with This can often be repeated randomly. Other-
wise stop the alarm with .
■3.2.5 Set alarm clock tune
DUnder Settings/ Tones & Signals/ Alarm clock tune, you can select which tune
you want to be woken by.
Tip: If you select a tune which is clearly different to the Call tune, you can be
certain not to confuse the two signals.

3.3 KEY LOCK
To avoid unintentional pressing of the keys (e.g. in your pocket), you can lock the
keys.
DIf the
-slide on the left of the mobile phone is moved upwards, the key lock
is switched on. A large key symbol will be indicated in the display.
DIf the mobile phone is slid open, all of the buttons are accessible again. If the
phone is closed again, the keys will be locked again.
DTo switch off the key lock, move the -slide down again.
Please note: Incoming calls can, as usual, be taken by or opening the sliding
cover.
If you want to refuse a call, you would firstly have to unlock the keypad
(move the -slide down).

3.4 FAVOURITES
In Favourites, individually arrange the menu items that you want to use the most
(without paging down too far in the main menu, e. g. Ring tone on/off, Calculator,
Name search, etc.). Activation is only necessary once in order to make favourites
visible when the cover is closed.
■3.4.1 Activate Favourites button
DWith the sliding cover open, access Settings with and select with .
DAccess Favourites with and select with .
DTo switch on this function, select On with and then close the cover.

4.1 SMS TEXT MESSAGES
An SMS (Short Message Service) is a short written message which can be sent to
all mobile phone users. Costs are only incurred when sending the SMS.
Note: Some landline telephones can also receive SMS messages.
4.1.1 SMS Service Center number
The central number of the network operator through which all short messages
are developed. This number is usually already saved by the network operator
on the SIM card and does not have to be entered or altered by you any
further
■4.1.2 Writing an SMS
DSlide open the mobile phone and select SMS messages with (already
shaded in dark).
DSelect Write New with .
DCompose your SMS with the aid of the numerical key pad. To delete individ-
ual characters give a short press. By doing so each character that is to
the left of the vertical line |will be deleted. To delete the whole text keep
depressed for 3 seconds.
DAny time you see the |symbol, this means you are in Text. To move around
(forward, back) in Text use . Through a long press on you can
jump back or forward from one line to another.
All characters and functions which can be selected are listed in the table below.
Each button represents several characters or functions according to how often
the relevant button is pressed in Abc–mode (see explanations according to the
table).

DA numerical entry can also be accessed by the following commands when
entering text: to continue, select to insert digits and confirm them with
. You can insert numbers via the numerical key pad or search in the phone
book of in the list of unsaved numbers.
DEntries from the phone book (name and telephone number) are inserted in
the SMS text in the following way: to continue, select to insert names
and confirm them with . Select names from the phone book with the key
pad or and insert into the SMS with .
DThe number of characters left to fit into an SMS can be seen in the upper right
corner of the display.
Example: 1/135 means that in the first SMS another 135 characters can still be
entered. In case more than 160 characters were already written, the text will
be sent in two SMS’s and 2/... will appear in the upper right corner.
A maximum of 480 characters can be sent at one time (automatically divided
in up to three messages).

DDepending on whether the telephone number of the receiver already
appears in the moble phone, follow the various procedures:
DTelephone number already in phone book: Select phone book by
pressing twice: Access names with or enter the initials of the
name with the keypad. As soon as the preferred number appears sha-
ded in dark, confirm it with . A final sends your SMS.
DJust used telephone number but not in phone book:
Confirm search with
, select unsaved numbers with and confirm
with . With select the relevant number in the list of telephone
numbers displayed (dialled and received as well as wrong numbers
and SMS) and confirm with .
DEnter new telephone number with the numerical key pad and send
SMS’s with
■4.1.4 Receiving an SMS
DA short tone signal and vibration indicates receipt of an SMS. “New mes-
sage” appears in the display.
DTo read the SMS select . You can now read the short message. For longer
text, move down the text field .
■4.1.5 Replying to an SMS
DIf you have finished reading the SMS, page down with until the SMS options
Delete, Call Number, Read Next SMS, Reply, Forward, Save in Phone Book
appear. Select Answer with .
DEither give a pre-fabricated short message (e.g. “Yes/No”, “Alright”) along
with the original text in your reply, with , or just simply access the blank
display with . Now write your reply.
DSend the reply to the SMS sender by pressing twice.
