2 Basic safety instructions
2.1 Requirements for personnel
‣Installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the measuring system must only
be carried out by trained technical personnel.
‣The technical personnel must be authorized by the plant operator to carry out the specified
activities.
‣The electrical connection may only be performed by an electrical technician.
‣The technical personnel must have read and understood these Operating Instructions and
must follow the instructions they contain.
‣Measuring point faults may only be rectified by authorized and specially trained personnel.
Repairs not described in the enclosed Operating Instructions may only be carried out
directly at the manufacturer's or by the service organization.
2.2 Designated use
Memobase Plus is a measurement and calibration software offering central database
management for sensors incorporating Memosens technology. It can be used to calibrate, adjust
and manage sensors in a laboratory.
Memobase Plus is designed for use in the following applications:
• Laboratories
• Process-oriented workbench applications in non-hazardous areas
Memobase Plus cannot be used to replace a process transmitter, as communication with
the control system is not supported.
"MemoLink" is used as a Memosens/USB interface converter for "Memobase Plus" computer
software. Memosens sensors with and without Ex approval are supported. Recommended areas
of application are preferably laboratory applications for calibration and functional testing.
Any use other than that described jeopardizes the safety of staff and of the entire measuring
system and is thus not permitted.
The manufacturer is not liable for damage resulting from incorrect or non-designated use.
2.3 Workplace safety
As the user, you are responsible for complying with the following safety conditions:
• Regulations for explosion protection
• Installation instructions
• Local standards and regulations.

2.4 Operational safety
‣Before commissioning the entire measuring point, make sure all the connections are correct.
Ensure that the electrical cables and hose connections are not damaged.
‣Do not operate damaged products, and safeguard them to ensure that they are not operated
inadvertently. Mark the damaged product as defective.
‣If faults cannot be rectified, the products must be taken out of service and secured against
unintentional commissioning.
2.5 Product safety
The product is designed to meet state-of-the-art safety requirements, has been tested and left
the factory in a condition in which it is safe to operate.
Relevant regulations and European standards have been observed.
2.6 Return
The product must be returned if repairs or a factory calibration are required, or if the wrong
product has been ordered or delivered. According to legal regulations Endress+Hauser, as an
ISO-certified company, is required to follow certain procedures when handling returned
products that are in contact with the medium.

2.7 Safety instructions for electrical equipment in hazardous areas
• The MemoLink must never be used in hazardous areas! The MemoLink is not designed as a
field device for installation in industrial environments.
• The MemoLink, which is approved in accordance with EU type-examination certificate BVS
12 ATEX 079 X, ensures that the "intrinsic safety" protection type of the Memosens measuring
cable and the Memosens sensor are not compromised during calibration and functional
testing.
The relevant EU Declaration of Conformity is an integral part of this document.
• The computer, USB cable, MemoLink, Memosens measuring cable and Memosens sensor
must be located outside the hazardous area during calibration and functional testing.
• Memosens cables with Memosens sensors may be connected to the Memosens interface of
the Memolink.
• The internal electronics of the Ex-approved Memosens/USB interface converter MemoLink
allow the connection of Ex-approved and non-Ex-approved passive Memosens measuring
cables with Memosens sensors. The connection of non-Ex-approved Memosens sensors does
not interfere with the intrinsic safety of Ex-approved Memosens sensors connected at a later
stage.
• MemoLink may only be connected to the USB interface of a commercially available computer.
3 Identification
3.1 Device designation

The following information on your MemoLink can be found on the nameplate:
• Manufacturer ID
•Ordercode
• Serial number
• Firmware version
• Input and output characteristic quantities
• Environmental conditions
• Ex approval
• Safety and warning information
Compare the details on the nameplate with your order.

3.3 Certificates and approvals
Declaration of Conformity
The Memosens/USB interface converter meets the requirements of the harmonized European
standards.
As such, it complies with the legal specifications of the EC directives.
The manufacturer confirms successful testing of the product by affixing to it the 4mark.

4 Memobase Plus
4.1 Features
Memobase Plus is a software package offering central management of measurement data,
calibration data and sensor data for sensors with Memosens technology.
It allows end-to-end documentation of data relevant to your sensor and measuring point, e.g.:
• Calibration history including information on the reference solutions used
• Sensor utilization data such as total operating hours, operating hours under extreme process
conditions
• Assignment of a sensor to a measuring point or a group of measuring points
MemoLink only transmits data digitally so no measured data can be corrupted. The measuring
signal is converted to digital data in the sensor, which means that MemoLink, the cable or PC
software do not affect the measured values.
4.2 System requirements
The following system requirements must be met when installing and using Memobase Plus:
If the computer is under a heavy load, USB communication can be sluggish. This can
impede sensor communication.

5 Installation
5.1 Installation wizard
The installation wizard guides you through the installation of the Memobase Plus software. The
wizard also contains the update function. Therefore, if you want to update your Memobase Plus
software you should also start the installation wizard.
Before you start the installation:
• You require administrator rights to run the installation.
• Only connect the USB cable and MemoLink to the computer once the software has been
installed successfully.
Please contact your system administrator if problems occur during the installation.
During the installation process, read and follow all the instructions carefully.
•SelectNext > to continue the installation.
•Select< Back to go back to the previous installation step (if possible).
•SelectCancel to cancel the installation.
1. Insert the DVD into your CD/DVD drive.
The Memobase Plus installation procedure starts automatically.
If autostart is not active, start Setup.exe directly from the DVD.
2. The following screen appears if necessary programs are missing.
Click Next to start installing the missing programs and follow the instructions.

3. Click Next to start installing Memobase Plus.
4. The license agreement appears.
– Please read the license agreement carefully.
– Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click Next to continue the
installation procedure.
– Select I do not accept the terms in the License Agreement and/or click Cancel if you
do not accept the agreement and would like to abort the installation.

5. Select the database management system that you want to install.
If you want to install PostgreSQL Server, continue with Step 6.
If you want to use an Oracle database, continue with Step 10.
6. If you want to install the PostgreSQL Server, click Next.

7. If you want to change the installation location, click Browse and select the appropriate
folder.
Click Next.

8. Choose whether you want to use the Default settings or your Own settings.
‣The following database parameters are predefined in the default settings:
–Servername:localhost
– Connection timeout: 60 s
– User name: postgres
– Port number: 5436
– Database: memobase
– Password: Fdm123Admin
‣If you select "Own settings", you have the opportunity to change the following
parameters.
– Service Account
– Service Password
– Superuser Account
– Superuser Password
–Host
–Port
– Database name

Please contact your IT department for a central PostgreSQL server installation.
Initialization can be performed using the "Reset database" button. The following settings
must be checked to ensure access via the network is possible:
– postgres.conf: listen_addresses = ’*’
– pg_hba.conf: replace the IPv4 entry with the following: host all all 0.0.0.0/0 md5
– Add the Postgres.exe program to the Windows Firewall and enable
Make sure your user name and password are stored in a safe place. If your lose this
information it is not possible to restore the data saved.
For FDA compliance the user-defined settings must be selected and a user-specific
password must be assigned.
9. Choose where shortcuts for Memobase Plus should be configured and click Next.

10. Click Install.
11. Click Finish to finish the installation.

5.2 License activation
Functions of Memobase Plus which are independent of the sensor - such as user administration
- are available after the installation.
To be able to use the complete range of functions, you must register your license via the Internet.
This can be done on the PC on which you installed the software or on any other PC with Internet
access. For this, you require the serial number and the license key on the back of the DVD cover.
If you want to enter a new license key to extend a temporary license, for example, proceed
as you would for a new license. The software does not need to be reinstalled and the
database is retained.
• In Step 1, enter the serial number and the license key.
• Click OK on the bottom left.

• The activation code is generated.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
You can copy the activation code to the clipboard via the Copy to clipboard button.
A window opens when you click the link in Step 2. In this window, enter the activation code
and follow the instructions.
If you have copied the activation code to the clipboard, you can paste it using the CTRL
+ V key combination.
