Manual Escape-Chair®
VOLT

Remove the Escape-Chair® VOLT from its location and
place it in front of you so you can see the tracks.

Make sure the wheels are locked into place. Use your
foot to engage the brakes into its 'on' position. This
prevents the Escape-Chair® VOLT from moving itself.

Release the safety belt, which holds the Escape-Chair®
VOLT together, by pressing the red button.

Fold out the Escape-Chair® VOLT by folding the seat
out in its entirety.

Assist the evacuee into the Escape-Chair® VOLT, as
you have been trained to do so.

Fasten the safety belt around the evacuee, ensuring it is
securely in place.

The operating handle can be adjusted by raising the red
bar slightly. The control panel can be adjusted to 3
different heights into the elevated position, if preferred.

If the evacuee has no control over the movement of
their head, use the headrest with the velcro strap to
secure in place.

Fold out the footrest, so that the evacuee can
comfortably place their feet on it.

To fold out the tracks, turn the chair on its right side and
push the red lever to release the tracks.
Make sure that the tracks are completely folded out.

Make sure that the power button on the battery is turned
to the 'on' position.

Push the red button on the control panel to activate the
operation and display.

STAIR DESCENT (DOWN):

Release the brakes from the wheels, by using your foot,
and move towards the staircase.

As you reach the staircase, tilt the Escape-Chair®
VOLT towards you, so that it moves forward on the two
rear wheels.

Manoeuvre the chair onto the first tread of the stairs,
ensuring that the caterpillar tracks engage.

Now push the left-hand thumb on the left silver button
and hold it down. The caterpillar tracks will then begin
their descent down the stairs.
Note: there are 3 different speeds. Choose the speed
that is suitable and safe for you, by pushing the + and -
buttons on the display. To stop on the stairs simply
release the silver button. ALWAYS keep your hands on
the operating handle, at all times.

By keeping your hand and thumb in their allocated
position, move down the stairs at your own chosen
speed. Caution: Always make your descent on the
inside of the staircase.

When you reach the bottom of the staircase, bring the
Escape-Chair VOLT onto all 4 wheels and continue to
the assembly point.

STAIR ASCENT (UP):

Release the brakes from the wheels, by using your foot,
and move towards the staircase.

When you reach the stairs, move the Escape-Chair®
VOLT so that the tracks meet with the first step.

Tilt the Escape-Chair® VOLT all the way back, so that
the tracks are on the first 2 steps.

Now push the right-hand thumb on the right silver button
and hold it down. The caterpillar tracks will then begin
their ascent up the stairs.
Note: there are 3 different speeds. Choose the speed
that is suitable and safe for you, by pushing the + and -
buttons on the display. To stop on the stairs simply
release the silver button. ALWAYS keep your hands on
the operating handle, at all times.

By keeping your hand and thumb in their allocated
position, move up the stairs at your own chosen speed.
Caution: Always make your ascent on the inside of the
staircase.

When you reach the top of the staircase, bring the
Escape-Chair VOLT onto all 4 wheels and continue to
the assembly point.

FOLDING/STORAGE

Once arrived at the assembly point, assist the evacuee
out of the chair, as you have been trained to do so.
Make sure you fold the foot rest first.

When safe to do so, return the Escape-Chair® VOLT
back to its allocated location and fold it back together
into its original state.

In order to do this, push the red rod in, so that it fully
engages with the frame and locks into place. This red
rod can be found between the sliding tracks.

Fold / slide the armrests, footrests and supporting
brackets located at the front and back of the unit and
fold the Escape-Chair® VOLT together with your foot or
hand using the red rod located underneath the seat.

Once the Escape-Chair® VOLT has been folded back
together, use the safety belt to secure the unit.

Store the Escape-Chair® VOLT in the designated
location with the cover supplied. This location must be
moisture free.

BATTERY INFORMATION:
The 36V battery can be charged via power outlet with
the cable provided. You can leave the battery on the
Escape-Chair® VOLT whilst charging, or you can
remove the battery from the unit. Note: The battery must
be turned to the 'ON' position, otherwise it will not
charge.
The battery can be removed from the Escape-Chair®
VOLT by using the keys supplied.
Please note: These keys have a special code. Please
note this code down, so that in the event of them being
lost, you can order a new set quoting the original code
provided.
Charging time for the battery is 3-5 hours. The battery
can be used for approximately 1.5 hours (depending on
steepness and weight of occupant).
The battery life is approximately 3-5 years. We
recommend that the battery on the Escape-Chair®
VOLT is recharged every 3 months.
The display has a blue button. This allows you to turn on
the LED lighting if desired.
An indicator is displayed on the control panel, indicating
how full / empty the battery is.
Please note:
The Escape-Chair® VOLT can only be operated by
people who have been trained to use the equipment.
Training may ONLY be performed by trainers certified
by Escape Mobility Company.
Load capacity of the Escape-Chair® VOLT is 180KG.
When evacuating people heavier than 100KG, we
recommend that this is carried out with 2 emergency
operators.
The Escape-Chair® VOLT is also equipped with front
and rear handles. This allows the Escape-Chair® VOLT
to be carried manually. The handles located at the front
can be pulled out and folded out to their full extent.
The Escape-Chair® VOLT CANNOT be used on spiral
staircases.
The Escape-Chair® VOLT can possibly leave black
stripes on your stair nosings.
After use, check the Escape-Chair® VOLT for any
possible damage. If damaged please report this
IMMEDIATELY to Escape Mobility Company.
Ensure that the Escape-Chair® VOLT completely turned
OFF, after use. Do this by pressing the button to the
'OFF' position on the battery-pack itself.
