Evacuate the person. This requires at least 4-6 persons.
Use the extra drag straps that can be hooked onto the
mattress. Pull the evacuee in the direction of the
staircase, feet first, using the long towing straps. If you
raise the foot end slightly, the friction resistance
decreases.
In order to negotiate bends, it may be easier to:
• use the shorter strap of the towing straps.
• use the handgrips on the sides opf the mattress.
Now let 2 people stand at the foot end and let them step
up the stairs. By lifting the foot end one can make the
turn to the stairs easier (also the turn on a landing
platform). Have the persons standing at the foot end
support the mattress by resting it against their hip /
thigh, so that you have good control over the speed of
the descent. By doing this they also relieve the people at
the head end.
The other 2 to 4 people take place at the head end. You
can now attach 2 extra drag straps at the head end. This
allowsbetter control of the weight of the evacuee.
Evacuate down the stairs at a calm pace. The person at
the head end must be in sync with the movement. In this
way it is also possible to continue to walk upstraight
maintaining a good body position.
Tow the evacuee to a safe location or the assembly
point.
Unfasten the safety straps and open the body flaps and
help the evacuee get off the Escape-Mattress®
Bariatric.
Inspect the Escape-Mattress® Bariatric for damage
and/or wear.
If necessary, clean with water and disinfectant soap.
