General descripon
Funconal
The mulmode to singlemode converter 21-203, is designed to extend the maximum connecon distance between two
substaon protecon relays.
By using singlemode ber and a laser of 1300/1550nm opcal wavelength, the maximum distance can be extended up to
typically 250km, depending on the opcal budget.
For a complete link two 21-203 converters are needed.
Example 1:
Substaon protecon relay Substaon protecon relay
Warning! Never look at the transming laser, at the ber Tx port or at the ber cable
ends when the transceiver is powered up!
The light is invisible, and can permanently harm your eyes!

Serial number
The products serial number is the best way to idenfy the product. If the serial number is not noted on your delivery notes,
please add the serial number to your own product documentaon. This will be useful at future contact with Fibersystem.

Back panel
There are no connecons or indicaons on the back panel.
Fiber Opc Ports
The ber opc connectors of both mulmode port, MM, and singlemode port, SM, are of SC type.
Make sure that the right type of ber is used. Mulmode type for mulmode port (MM), and singlemode ber for singlemode
port, (SM).
Conrm that the aenuaon of the ber opc cables, including splices and patch cables, doesn’t exceed the system budget.
Don’t forget to include a safety margin. Minimum safety margin is 3dB.
At very short distances, < 1km, it might be necessary to use ber opc aenuators. An aenuaon value of 3 to 10 dB is
suitable. Two aenuators are needed.
Make sure that the local ber opc transmier, marked Tx, is connected to the remote units ber opc receiver, marked Rx. And
local Rx shall be connected to remote Tx
