USING THE SILENCE FEATURE
The Silence Fe ature i s for you r convenience only and w ill not c orrec t a CO pro blem. A lways ch eck you r home fo r
a poten tial pr oblem a fter a ny alarm . Failur e to do so c an resu lt in inju ry or de ath.
The Silen ce Feature is intended to temporarily silence y our CO Alarm’s alarm horn while you correct the pr oblem—it will
not corr ect a CO pr oblem. While the ala rm is silen ced it will c ontinue t o monito r the air for CO.
To Activat e the Silence F eatur e: Pres s and hold t he Silence button until the horn is silent.
Once you a ctiva te the S ilenc e Featu re: the Silence cycle will last approximately 4 minutes.
NOTE: A fter initial 4-minute Silence cycl e, the CO A larm re-evalua tes pres ent CO levels and res ponds ac cording ly. If CO
levels rema in potentially dangerous -or sta rt rising higher- the h orn will start s ounding again.
While t he dete ctor i s silen ced:
If the CO A larm. .. This means...
Is silent for only 4 minu tes, then star ts sounding loudly—4 beeps, pause, 4 beeps, pause CO levels are still potentially dangerous.
If the CO A larm. .. This means...
Remains silent after you pre ssed the Silence button CO levels are dropping.

SYMPTOMS OF CO POISONING
The follo wing symptoms may be related to C ARBON MO NOXI DE PO ISON ING and should be discuss ed with A LL members of th e household.
Mild exposure: Headaches, running nose, sore eyes, o ften de scribed as “flu” -like symptoms;
Medium exposure: Dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting;
Extreme Exposure: Unconsciousness, brain damage, death.
Many cas es of repo rted C ARBON MO NOXI DE POISON ING indicate that while vi ctims are aware they are not well, they bec ome so
disoriented they are unable to save themselves by e ither exi ting the building or calling for a ssist ance.
Some individuals are more sensitive t o CO than o thers, including p eople with cardiac or respirator y problems, infa nts, unb orn babies, pregnant mot hers, or e lderly people
can be more quickly and severely affected by CO. Member s of sensitive populations should co nsult their doctors for ad vice on taking additional precautions.
THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS CAN RESULT IN TRANSIENT CO SITUATIONS:
1. Excessive spilla ge or rever se venting of fuel ap pliance s caused by outdoo r condit ions such a s:
• Wind direction an d/or velocity, including high, gusty w inds. He avy air in t he vent pipes (cold/humid air with extended periods be tween cycles).
• Negative pressure differenti al resulting from the use of ex haust fans.
• Several a pplianc es running at the same time competing for limited fresh air.
• Vent pipe co nnecti ons vibrating loose from clothes dryers , furnaces, or water heater s.
• Obstruction s in or unconventional vent pipe designs w hich can amplify the above situatio ns.
2. Extended operation of unvented fuel burning devices (range, oven, fireplace).
3. Temperature invers ions, which can tr ap exhaus t close to the ground.
4. Car idling in an open o r closed a ttached garage, or near a home.
GENER AL LIMITATIONS OF CO ALARMS
This CO A larm is intended fo r residential use. It is not in tended for use in industria l applica tions wh ere Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for carbon monoxide detector s must be me t.
CO alarm s may not waken all individuals. I f children or other s do not rea dily waken t o the soun d of the CO a larm, or i f there ar e infant s or family
members with mobility limitation s, make sur e that someone is as signed to assist t hem in the event of an emergency.
CO Alar ms will not work without powe r. This Alar m conta ins a sealed, non-r eplacea ble bat tery.
CO Alar ms for Solar or Wind Energy users and b attery backu p power sys tems: AC p owered C O Alarm s should only be operated wit h true or pure sine wave inverters. Operating this Alar m
with mos t batt ery-powered U PS (uninterruptible powe r supply) p roducts or square wave or “qua si sine wave” inverters will damage the Alarm. If you are not sure about your inver ter or
UPS t ype, plea se consult with the manufacturer to verif y.
This CO A larm will n ot sense c arbon monoxide that does not reach the sensor. This CO Alarm will only sense C O at the sen sor. CO may be present in other areas. Doors or other obstructions
may affe ct the ra te at which CO reaches the CO A larm. F or this reason, if b edroom d oors ar e usually closed at night, we re commend yo u install a CO Ala rm in each be droom an d in the
hallway between them.
CO Alar ms may not se nse CO on a nother level of the home. For example, a CO A larm on t he second level, near the bedrooms, may not sense C O in the basement.
For this reason, o ne CO Alarm may not give adequa te warning. Complete cover age is recommended. Place CO Alarms o n each level o f the home.
CO Alar ms may not be h eard. The alarm ho rn loudness meet s or exceeds current UL standards of 85 dB at 10 fee t (3 meter s). However, if the CO Al arm is ins talled outside
the bedroom, it may no t wake up a sound sleeper or one who h as recen tly used d rugs or ha s been drin king alcoholic beverages. This is especially true if th e door is closed or
only par tly open. Even persons who a re awake may n ot hear the alarm ho rn if the sound is blocked by distance or closed do ors. Noise from traffic, stereo, radi o, televis ion, air
conditi oner, or other applian ces may als o prevent a lert persons from hearing the ala rm horn. T his CO A larm is not intended for people who are he aring impaired.
CO Alar ms are not a s ubstitute for a s moke alar m. Alth ough fire i s a source o f carbo n monoxide, this CO A larm does not sense
smoke or fir e. This CO Alarm senses CO that may be e scaping unnoticed from malfunct ioning
furnace s, applia nces, or other sources. E arly warning of fire requires the installation of smoke alarms.
CO Alar ms are not a s ubstitute for life insur ance. Th ough these CO Alarms warn against increasing CO levels, BRK B rands, Inc. does not warr ant
or imply in any w ay that they will protect lives from CO p oisonin g. Homeowners an d renter s must still insure t heir lives .
CO Alar ms have a limit ed life. A lthough the CO Alarm and all of its pa rts have passed many stringent te sts and a re design ed to be as
reliable a s possible, any of these par ts coul d fail at any t ime. Ther efore, you must test your CO A larm weekly.
CO Alar ms are not f oolpro of. Like all other electroni c devices , CO Ala rms have limi tatio ns. They c an only detect CO t hat reaches their s ensors. They
may not give early war ning to rising CO levels if the CO is coming fr om a tremo te part of the home, away from t he CO Alarm.
SILENCING THE END OF LIFE SIGNAL
This silen ce feature can temporarily quiet the End of Life warning “chirp” for 8 h ours up to 7 d ays. You can s ilence the End of Life warning
“chirp” by pre ssing the Silence button. The hor n will chirp, a cknowledging that the End o f Life feature has been activated.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CO
WHAT IS CO?
CO is an invisible, odorless , tasteless gas produce d when fos sil fuels do not burn completely, or are exposed to heat (usuall y fire). Electric al applia nces typically do not produce CO.
These fuels include: Wood, co al, charcoal, oil, n atural gas, gas oline, kerosene, and propan e.
Becaus e CO may dis sipate by t he time an investiga tor arrives, it may be diff icult to lo cate the source of CO. BR K Brands,
Inc. shall not be obligated to pay for any carbon monoxide investigation or ser vice call.
Fuel-burning appliances like: portable heater, gas or wo od burnin g fireplace, gas ki tchen ra nge or cooktop, ga s clothe s dryer.
Damaged or insufficient venting: corroded or disconnected water heater vent pipe, leaking chimney pipe or flue, or cracked heat exchanger, blocked or clogged chimney opening.
Improper use of appliance/device: operating a barbecue grill o r vehicle in an enclosed area (like a garage or screened porch).
Transient CO Problems: “transient” or on-again- off-again CO pr oblems ca n be cause d by outdo or conditions and other special circ umstances.
A CO Alar m is not a su bstit ute fo r prope r maint enanc e of home a pplian ces.

WHAT LEVELS OF CO CAUSE AN ALARM?
Canadia n Standards A ssocia tion 6.19-0 1 require s residential CO Alarms t o sound when exposed to levels o f CO and exp osure
times as de scribed below. They a re measured in par ts per million (ppm) o f CO over time (in minutes).
CSA 6.19 Required Alarm Point s*:
• If the ala rm is exposed to 40 0 ppm of CO, IT MUST AL ARM BET WEE N 4 and 15 MIN UTE S.
• If the ala rm is exposed to 150 ppm o f CO, IT M UST A LA RM BE TW EEN 10 and 50 MIN UTES.
• If the ala rm is exposed to 70 ppm o f CO, IT M UST A LA RM BETWEEN 60 a nd 240 MI NUT ES.
* Approximately 10% C OHb exposure at levels of 10% t o 95% Rela tive Humi dity ( RH).
The unit is d esigned n ot to alar m when exposed to a constan t levelof 3 0 ppm for 30 days. CO A larms are designed to alarm before
there is an immediate life threat. Since you canno t see or smell CO, never assume it ’s not present.
• An exposure to 100 ppm of CO for 2 0 minutes may not af fect aver age, healthy adults, but after 4 hours the same level may cause head aches.
• An exposure to 40 0 ppm of CO may cause headaches in average, healthy a dults af ter 35 minutes, but can cause death af ter 2 hours.
This CO A larm mea sures exposure to CO over time. It alarms if CO levels are extremely hi gh in a shor t period of time, or if CO levels reach a cer tain
minimum over a lo ng perio d of time. The CO Ala rm generally sounds an alarm before t he onset o f symptoms in average, healthy adults.
GAS DETECTION AT T YPICAL TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY R ANGES:
The CO Alarm is not formulated to detect CO levels below 3 0 ppm typically. UL tested for false alarm resistance to Methane (50 0 ppm), Butane (300 ppm), Heptane (500 ppm), Ethyl Ac etate ( 200
ppm), Isop ropyl Alcohol (200 ppm) and Carbon Dioxide (500 0 ppm). Values measure gas and vapor concentra tions in parts p er million. A udible A larm: 85 d B minimum at 10 fee t (3 meter s).

* Approximately 10% C OHb exposure at levels of 10% t o 95% Rela tive Humi dity ( RH).
A udible A larm: 85 d B minimum at 10 fee t (3 meter s).

conditi ons: (1) this device may not cause interf erence, a nd (2) this device mus t accept any inter ference, including inter ference that may ca use undesired operation o f the device.
SYMPTOMS OF CO POISONING
The follo wing symptoms may be related to C ARBON MO NOXI DE PO ISON ING and should be discuss ed with A LL members of th e household.
Mild exposure: Headaches, running nose, sore eyes, o ften de scribed as “flu” -like symptoms;
Medium exposure: Dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting;
