1. Prior to Starting
1-1. Welcome
Congratulations! By purchasing UFM-15VDA/18VDA ANALOG VIDEO DISTRIBUTION
AMPLIFIER you have entered the world of FOR-A and its many innovative products. Thank you
for your patronage and we hope you will turn to FOR-A products again and again to satisfy your
video and audio needs.
FOR-A provides a wide range of products, from basic support units to complex system
controllers, which have been increasingly joined by products for computer video based systems.
Whatever your needs, talk to your FOR-A representative. We will do our best to be of continuing
service to you.
1-2. About the UFM-15VDA/18VDA
The UFM-15VDA/18VDA analog video distribution amplifier, providing 5-way (UFM-15VDA) /
8-way (UFM-18VDA) distribution of analog component signals, is specifically designed for use
with FOR-A’s Universal Frames.
Features
Video gain control available on the front panel
Input signal detection feature
Input signal pass-through / loopthrough selectable for OUT1 by internal settings.
Clamp on/off selectable for the output video signal. AC coupled / DC coupled output also
selectable when set to Clamp off. (Internal setting)
State monitoring via web using UFM-30CTL (for separate purchase) is enabled by installing
an optional UFHM-IFB.
1-3. About This Manual
This manual is intended to help the user easily operate the UFM-15VDA/18VDA and make full
use of its functions during operations. Before connecting or operating your unit, read this
operation manual thoroughly to ensure you understand the product. After reading, it is important
to keep this manual in a safe place and available for reference.

2. Panel Descriptions
2-1. Front Panel
(1) Power indicator
The power indicator lights green whenever power is applied to the unit.
(2) INPUT indicator
This indicator lights green whenever the composite video signal is inputted to the INPUT
connector.
Indicator Description
Lit Receiving input video signal and the unit is working properly.
Unlit No input video signals.
Input level too low.
Flashing Input Video signal is considerably unstable.
(3) GAIN
Used to control video gain in the range from -3dB to +3dB.
(4) OPERATE/ BY-PASS indicator
This indicator lights whenever the OPERATE/ BY-PASS toggle switch is set to OPERATE.
(5) OPERATE/ BY-PASS toggle switch
Setting Indicator Description
OPERATE
(Bottom position) Lit Outputs the processed signals.
BY-PASS
(Top position) Unlit Bypasses input video signal to the VIDEO OUT
1 connector.
(6) INTERFACE
This indicator lights up in green whenever an optional UFHM-IFB is installed.

2-2. Rear Panel
(1) VIDEO IN
Used to input a video signal.
(2) VIDEO OUT 1/BY-PASS, THRU
Used to output the analog composite signal, corrected video input from (1) VIDEO IN and
bypass signal from input connector (1) whenever the unit power is off or the OPERATE /
BY-PASS toggle switch is set to BY-PASS.
This connector can be also used as a loopthrough connector (VIDEO IN signal loopthrough)
by internal settings.
(3) VIDEO OUT 2, 3, 4, 5 (*UFM-15VDA)
Used to output video signals.
(4) VIDEO OUT 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (*UFM-18VDA)
Used to output video signals.

3. Connection
CAUTION
Turn all the power OFF before making connection.
Refer to figure below for connecting the UFM-15VDA/18VDA to other devices.
Note that before installing the UFM-15VDA/18VDA into the universal frame, you should thoroughly
read the operation manual for the Universal Frame (UF-106A or UF-112) where you will be
installing.
(1) OPERATE / BY-PASS mode
(2) Loopthrough mode
VIDEO IN is high impedance when in loopthrough mode. The last device in the chain should
be terminated with 75Ω.

4. Operation
4-1. Front Panel Switche and Control
The UFM-15VDA/18VDA front panel switch and control can be used to select and change
operational settings and levels.

4-2. Front Panel Controls
4-2-1. GAIN
Control Description
Used to adjust the VIDEO OUT
output level.
Setting range: -3dB to +3dB
4-2-2. OPERATE / BY-PASS SELECT
Control Description
Selects which signal output from
OUT 1, bypassed signal
(BY-PASS) or processed signal
(OPERATE).
Top position: BY-PASS
Bottom position: OPERATE
The OPERATE/ BY-PASS indicator
lights up when set to OPERATE.
IMPORTANT
The OPERATE/ BY-PASS switch is disabled in loopthrough mode regardless of the
indicator status. See section 5-2. “Operation Mode” for the loopthrough settings.

5. Internal Settings
The following settings can be made at the switches and jumpers on the front module and rear
module of the UFM-15VDA/18VDA.
Switch settings must be made prior to installing any module to the UF-106A/UF-112 universal
frame.

5-2. Operation Mode
The jumpers in the Main and I/O cards are used to switch OUT1 between bypass and
loopthrough.

The MAIN CARD SW1 and SW2 are used to set clamp ON/OFF for the output video signal.

7. About UFHM-IFB (Optional)
Installing the UFHM-IFB (optional) on the UFM-15/18VDA and using with the UFM-30CTL
(available for separate purchase) enables you to view the status of the UFM-15/18VDA in a web
browser. See UFM-30CTL Operation Manual for details.
IMPORTANT
Before installing the UFHM-IFB on the UFM-15/18VDA, make sure that the dipswitch
settings on the UFHM-IFB are configured. Otherwise, the system may not operate
properly. If your UFHM-IFB is installed at the factory, the dipswitch settings are factory
configured.

7-1. Installing UFHM-IFB (Optional)
If you purchased the UFHM-IFB separately, first mount the UFHM-IFB on the UFM-15/18VDA
front module as described in the figures in this section and install it to the universal frame.
NOTE
The UFHM-IFB cannot be used with the UF-106A universal frame.
1) Remove the six screws on the UFM-15/18VDA front module (marked with white circles) and
remove the shield board.

2) Set the supplied four spacers on the UFM-15/18VDA (circled in a white rectangle) and
secure them from the backside of the card, using the supplied screws.
3) Return the removed shield board to the original position and secure it with the six screws
removed in step 1).
4) With careful attention paid to the connector positions, mount the UFHM-IFB on the
UFM-15/18VDA front module.
5) Secure the UFHM-IFB using the supplied four screws (marked with white circles).
*If your UFHM-IFB is already installed at the factory, these steps are not necessary.
