Overview
Toensureasafeworkingenvironmentforbothyouandtheprinter,itisnecessarytotreatthe
printerandaccessorieswithcare.Carefullyreadandunderstandallofthecontentsbefore
operatingyourprinter.
UseonlyprintingmaterialsfromFullSpectrumLaser(FSL)orapprovedpartners.Useofother
materialsmaydamageyourmachineandwillvoidyourwarranty.Modifyingtheprinterwithout
FSL’sapprovalwillinvalidatethewarrantyandmayposeahealthhazard.Neverattemptto
operateyourprinterwiththelidopen.
Whenyoureceiveyourprinter,pleasecarefullyinspectitforanyshippingdamage.Ifthereare

PrinterSafety
● ThereflectedLEDlightoftheprojectorisnotharmfultotheeyes,howeveritisnot
recommendedtoruntheprinterwiththeyellowcoveropen.
● Donotopentheprintercase.Thiswillvoidyourwarrantyandcouldexposetheuserto
electricalshock.
● Donotblocktheprinterairvents.
● Regularlyclearairventsofalldust,dirtandotherdebristhatmightpreventorhinder
printercooling.
WorkArea
● Theprintermustbeinstalledonalevelsurfacetopreventspillageofresin.Theresin
mayspilloutduringtheliftcyclesifthesurfaceisuneven.
● Keepaboardnearbytouseunderneaththebuildheadwhenremovingprints.Thiswill
preventresinfromdrippingoverthefrontoftheprinter.
● Theprintermustbeinstalledinalocationawayfromdirectsunlightorintenseartificial
lightsources.Theseenvironmentscouldprematurelycureyourresin.
● Toensureresinflowsproperly,theworkareashouldbekeptbetween(15°C/60°F)and
(26°C/80°F).
● Theprinteritselfemitsnofumesandtheresincontainszerovolatileorganiccompounds.
However,IsopropylAlcohol(IPA)iscommonlyusedtofinishprintssoanareawithgood
ventilationisrecommended.
Resin
FSLphotopolymerresinisamildirritant.FollowstandardsafetyproceduresandFSLhandling
instructions.
● OnlyuseresinfromFSLorapprovedpartners.Using3rdpartyresinmaydamageyour
machineandvoidyourwarranty.
● Wearprotectivegloveswhenhandlingtheresin.Gogglesarealsorecommended.
● Resinisnotedibleinliquidorsolidform.
● Liquidandsolidformsofresinarenotapprovedforusewithfoodordrink.
● Liquidandsolidformsofresinarenottestedorapprovedforuseinmedicalapplications.
● Donotmixtheresinwithanysubstances.
● Theresinislightsensitive,soavoidlongexposuretostrongartificiallightingorsunlight.
ThetransparentyellowcoverisdesignedtofilterUVlight,butstrongexteriorlightmay
enterandcuretheresin.Itisimportantthattheunitbekeptoutofdirectsunlightor
highintensityartificiallight.
● Toavoidcontamination,donotpourusedresinbackintotheoriginalbottle.Itissafeto
storeresininthebuildtrayforaperiodof24hrsorlessbetweenprints.Forperiods
greaterthan24hours,werecommendtoemptythebuildtrayandtofiltertheresin.

● Werecommendcoloredresinsbegentlystirredfor5minutesbeforeuseifleftsittingfor
morethan7daysduetopossiblepigmentsettling.
● Allresinshouldbestoredinacool,dryplaceatornearroomtemperaturebetween
(15°C/60°F)and(26°C/80°F).
● PleaserefertoAppendixD:MaterialSafetyData(resin)forinformationonhandling,
storage,properties,andanoutlineofMaterialSafetyoftheresin.
IsopropylAlcoholUse
IsopropylAlcohol(IPA)shouldneverbeusedtocleanprintercomponents,includingthe
SuperVAT™,buildhead,lidandprinterexterior.Onlyusepaperproductsforprintercleaning
purposes.IPAmaybeusedtocleanandcureprintedpartsoncetheyhavebeenseparated
fromthebuildhead.

Unpacking
Onceyouhaveremovedtheunitfromthebox,youwillneedtodothefollowingtopreparethe
machine(wirecuttersorscissorsrequired)
1. Removeallwrappingandpackagingmaterialfromtheexterior.Remembertokeepall
foampackingshouldtherebeaneedtoreturn,shipormovetheprintertoanother
location.
2. Verifythatyouhaveallthecomponentsincludedinthepackinglistbelow.
3. Inspecttheinteriorandexterioroftheprinterfordamage.ContactFSLimmediatelyif
anydamageisdiscovered.

DuetothenatureofStereolithography(SLA)Printing,certainremovalandcleaningprocesses
arerequired.Werecommendthepurchaseofanumberoftoolstoassistinremovingprints
fromthebuildhead,cleaningprints,andfilteringresin.Someofthesetoolsaresharpandmay

Setup
Yourworkareashouldbekeptbetween(15°C/60°F)and(26°C/80°F)toensureconsistent
prints.Besurethattheprinterisonalevelsurfaceandawayfromdirectsunlight.TheUV
blockingyellowcovershouldpreventprematurecuringfromdailylighting,butavoidlong
exposuretostrongartificiallightingorsunlight.Verifythatyourmachineiscleanand
undamaged.
1. Chooseyourconnectionmethodandconnectwiththecorrespondingports.Ethernetis
prefered,butUSBPCconnection,WiFiconnection,anddirectUSBthumbdrivesare
alsosupported(MiniBUSBcable,Wifidongle,andthumbdrivenotincluded).
2. Connectthefemaleendofyourpowercabletothecorrespondingportintherearofthe
machine.
3. Flipthepowerswitchtotheonposition.
4. Themachineshouldbootwithin90seconds.

PlacementofSuperVAT™
TheSuperVAT™consistsofthemetalframe,acrylicbottom,SuperVAT™liner,andtwo
retentionthumbscrews.Besurethatallyourcomponentsarecleanandthatanypackaging
andprotectivefilmshavebeenremoved.DonotremoveyellowKaptontapefromthe
SuperVAT™.
● Peelawaytheprotectivefilmontheacrylicbottom.
● Removethetworetainingscrewsfromthemetalframe.Thesethumbscrewswill
requirenotools.
● SettheSuperVAT™linerintothemetalframe.Besurethatthebottomliesflushtothe
acrylicbottom.
● Replacethetwothumbscrews.Thefaceofthescrewsshouldbeontheinsideofthe
vat.
ToattachtheassembledSuperVAT™tothemachine:

● LoosentheflatheadscrewsonthePhoenix,andlowertheassemblyoverthescrew.
Keepthetallernotchedendofthesupervattowardsthebackofthemachine.This
allowsclearanceforthebuildheadtomove.
● ShifttheSuperVAT™backsothatthescrewrestsinthethinnersectionofthehole.
● TightenSuperVAT™inplace.
BuildHeadLeveling
1. Toattachthebuildhead,loosenthelargethumbscrewatthetopofthearmassembly.
Thisloosensthebracketforattachingyourbuildhead.
2. Loosenthehexboltusinga4mmhexdriverontheleftsideofthearm(whenlookingat
thefrontofthemachine).Thisloosensyourballjointforleveling.
3. Slidethebuildheadintoplace.andtightenthethumbscrew.Donottightenthehex
screw.
4. PoweronyourPhoenix.Usingthetouchscreenmenu,pressthegeariconintheupper
righthandcorner.Onthenextscreen,selectthe“CalibrateMotor”button.Inthemotor
controlmenu,bringthebuildheaddowntotheinsideofthevatusingthe“MotorDown”
button.

5. Continuetolowerthebuildheaduntilitiscompletelyflushwiththebaseofthe
SuperVAT™.TheballjointshouldautomaticallypivottoleveltheSuperVAT™andthe
buildhead.
6. Securelytightenthehexscrewtolockthebuildheadlocation.Ensurethattheboltis
centeredandspacedevenlyontheassembly.
7. Setthemotorhomingwiththe“SetMotorHoming”buttononthemotorcontrolmenu.
8. Testthemotorhomingtoverifythatitreturnstothesamelocation.
9. Moveprinterheadtothehighestpositionutilizingtouchscreenmotorcontrol.
AddingResin
● PourresinintotheSuperVat™liner.Minimumandmaximumfilllinesaredenotedby
thenotchinthefrontwindowofthevat.

● After50mLofprinting,thejobwillpauseautomaticallyforrefilling.FilltheSuperVAT™
justundertherecommendedmaximumfilllinebeforecontinuing.
● Ifmoreresinisneededwhileprinting,youcanpauseaprintatanytimetoaddmore
resinbypressingthepausebuttonontheLCDscreen.Theprintwillcontinuefromit’s
lastposition.Refillingresinmaycauseimperfectionsintheprintduetothetemperature
change.
● Becarefulnottoexceedtherecommendedmaximumfilllinetoavoidspillagewhile
printing.
● DonotcleantheSuperVAT™withIsopropylAlcohol(IPA)oranyotherchemicals.Doing
somaydamagetheSuperVAT™liner.Cleanonlywithpapertowels.

SelectYourPrinter
LaunchtheRetinaCreatesoftware.Inthetopleftmenu,choosethe“SelectPrinter”iconto
selectyourprinter.Thiswillcreatethelimitsforyourbuildarea.
Selectyourlayerthicknessintheleftmenu.ForPhoenixprinters,100micronsisdisabledonce
yourprintertypehasbeenselected.50MicronLayerswillbethethickest,while25Micron
Layerswillbethethinnest.
AddAModel
RetinaCreatesupports.stland.objfiles.OpenRetinaCreateandselect“AddModel”inthetop
leftmenu.Thiswillopenthefileexplorerforyourcomputer.Selectyourfileandpress“Open”.
Youcanalsodraganddropthefileintothesoftware.

ToaccesstheTranslate,Rotate,andScalecontrols,leftclickonthemodelthatyouwantto
affect.Whileplacingmodels,keepinmindthattheTranslatingPhoenixhas3sections.Models
thatcrossoverthetwoyellowboundarieshaveapossibilityofdevelopingminorseamlines.
Moving
Youwillseered,greenandblackarrows
surroundingthemodel.Redandgreenarrows
willdragthemodelinthedirectionthattheyare

Sizing

ShellModel
Shellingamodelisagreatoptionthatwillsaveresinandgiveyourmodelinnerstructural
support.Theshellingfeaturewillfillyourmodelwithasturdysupportstructurewhile
maintainingdurableouterwalls.Thisallowsyoutouselessresinwithoutcompromising
durability.
Pressthecircleabovethe“ShellModel”toshellyourcurrentselection.Youcanalsopressthe
dropdownarrowwhichwillgiveyoutheoptionstoshellortoremovetheshelling.
