1 SAFETY
1.1 Safety instructions
Warning of dangerous electrical voltage!
To prevent electric shocks, always comply with the following
instructions:
►Repairs may be carried out by a qualified electrician only!
►The user may be put at risk and injured by improper repairs!
►Observe the installation and repair instructions for the
appliances!
►If the appliance is faulty, the housing and frame may be live!
►Electric shock may occur if live components are touched
inside the appliance!
►Before commencing repairs, disconnect the appliance from
the power supply!
►If tests have to be performed while the appliance is live,
always use a residual-current-operated circuit-breaker!
►When repairs are complete, conduct a test in accordance
with VDE 0701 or the corresponding national regulations!
The protective conductor is crucial for personal safety and
appliance function.
►The test in accordance with VDE 0701 is conducted via the
mains plug. Measure the protective conductor resistance,
insulation resistance and substitute leakage or protective
conductor current and check the measured values!
►When repairs are complete, perform a function and safety
test.
1.2 Repair instructions
To prevent unnecessary repair costs, observe the following repair
instructions:
►NEVER attempt repairs by randomly replacing components!
►Always proceed systematically and observe the trouble-
shooting instructions in the technical documentation.
►As a rule, components are not repaired but are completely
replaced with original spare parts. Exceptions are documented
separately.
1.2.1 Pictograms

2 INSTALLATION
2.1 Installation dimensions
Note
¾A wok, e.g. VG 231, must not be installed next
to the VL 051.
¾If operated next to a gas appliance, the swivel
arm must be extended at least as far as the
upper edge of the pan.
¾ If installed next to a gas appliance, e.g. VG 232,
a locking pin must be fitted to prevent the
swivel arm from swivelling over the gas
appliance.
¾Extend swivel arm to

3.3 Switching on the appliance
¾Rotate power setting control knob to the required setting.
¾The swivel arm moves automatically into the roasting position.
¾The swivel arm can be set to any height with the height-
adjustment knob.
¾The arm can be swivelled manually from a height of 100 to
410 mm.
¾If the arm is extended without preselection of a power setting,
the fan runs at a basic setting.
3.4 Switching off the appliance
¾Rotate power setting to Pos. 0.
¾Rotate height adjustment to left to “retract” position.
3.5 Run-on
¾Rotate power setting knob to left to “run-on” position. The fan
continues running for 10 min at setting 1.
¾To end run-on early, set the switch to 0.
3.6 Vacation lock
¾Four hours after the last operation, the appliance switches off.

7 FAULT DIAGNOSTICS
7.1 Switch logic S1-S4
The 4 limit switches are connected to the electronics module via two
connectors X5 and X6.
The limit switches are break contacts, i.e. when the appropriate
position is reached, the electric signal is “0”.
If there is a line break or if a connector is not plugged in, the input
signals are also “0”.

7.2 Plastic hose is twisting
Fault description:
¾The swivel arm can no longer be extended. (mechanically
blocked)
Cause of fault:
¾The plastic hose has become so twisted that the swivel arm
is blocked.
Troubleshooting:
¾Remove the appliance, loosen the pipe clip and fit plastic hose
without twisting it.
7.3 Too little air power
Complaint:
¾Extraction is too weak or the fumes go past the extraction arm.
Cause:
¾Units VL 051 and GB 031 have a free-blowing air power
of 350 m³/h. (See performance characteristic)
Additional pipelines reduce the power further. Flat ducts are
unsatisfactory as regards air flow and should not be used.
¾The intake area of the swivel arm is very small in comparison
with a hood. Depending on the position of the hob, not all fumes
are detected.
Rectification:
¾Check direction of rotation of the fan.
Viewing the intake connection
from above, the fan impeller must
rotate in a clockwise direction.
¾ Check pipe installation. If pipelines are long or flat ducting is
used , the air power is reduced considerably.
