GARMIN grants you a limited li ense to use the software embedded in this devi e (the “Soft-
ware”) in binary exe utable form in the normal operation of the produ t. Title, ownership
rights and intelle tual property rights in and to the Software remain in GARMIN.

Limited Warranty
This GARMIN produ t is warranted to be free from defe ts in materials or workmanship for
one year from the date of pur hase. Within this period, GARMIN will at its sole option, repair
or repla e any omponents that fail in normal use. Su h repairs or repla ement will be made
at no harge to the ustomer for parts or labor, provided that the ustomer shall be respon-
sible for any transportation ost. This warranty does not over failures due to abuse, misuse,
a ident or unauthorized alteration or repairs.

NOTE: The GTX 330 o ner accepts all responsibility for obtaining the proper
licensing before using the transponder.
NOTE: The coverage you can expect from the GTX 330 is limited to “line of
sight”. Lo altitude or aircraft antenna shielding by the aircraft itself may
result in reduced range. Range can be improved by climbing to a higher alti-
tude. It may be possible to minimize antenna shielding by locating the antenna
here dead spots are only noticed during abnormal fl ight attitudes.
CAUTION: The GTX 330 should be turned off before starting or shutting do n
aircraft engine(s).

The GTX 330 transponder is powered on by pressing the STBY, ALT or ON keys, or by a remote avionics master
switch (if applicable). fter power on, a start-up page is displayed while the unit performs a self test. (See your
Garmin dealer for software upgrades.)
Mode Selection Keys
OFF Powers off the GTX 330. Pressing STBY, ON or ALT
key powers on the transponder displaying the last a tive
identifi ation ode.
STBY Sele ts the standby mode. When in standby mode,
the transponder will not reply to any interrogations.
ON Sele ts Mode A. In this mode, the transponder replies to interrogations, as
indi ated by the Reply Symbol ( ). Replies do not in lude altitude information.
ALT Sele ts Mode A and Mode C. In ALT mode, the transponder replies to identifi a-
tion and altitude interrogations as indi ated by the Reply Symbol ( ). Replies to
altitude interrogations in lude the standard pressure altitude re eived from an external
altitude sour e, whi h is not adjusted for barometri pressure. The ALT mode may be
sele ted in air raft not equipped with an optional altitude en oder; however, the reply
signal will not in lude altitude information.
Any time the fun tion ON or ALT is sele ted the transponder be omes an a tive part of
the Air Traffi Control Radar Bea on System (ATCRBS). The transponder also responds to
interrogations from TCAS equipped air raft.
Code Selection
Code sele tion is done with eight keys (0 – 7) providing 4,096 a tive identifi ation odes.
Pushing one of these keys begins the ode sele tion sequen e. The new ode is not a tivated until
the fourth digit is entered. Pressing the CLR key moves the ursor ba k to the previous digit.
Pressing the CLR key when the ursor is on the fi rst digit of the ode, or pressing the CRSR key
during ode entry, removes the ursor and an els data entry, restoring the previous ode. You
may press the CLR key up to fi ve se onds after ode entry is omplete to return the ursor to the
fourth digit. The numbers 8 and 9 are not used for ode entry, only for entering a Count Down
time, ontrast and display brightness, and data sele tion in the Confi guration Mode.

Avoid sele ting ode 7500 and all odes in the 7600-7777 range. These odes trigger
spe ial indi ators in automated fa ilities. An air raft’s transponder ode is used for ATC
tra king purposes, therefore exer ise are when making routine ode hanges.
Keys for Other GT 330 Functions
IDENTPressing the IDENT key a tivates the Spe ial Position Identifi a-
tion (SPI) Pulse for 18 se onds, identifying your transponder return from
others on the air traffi ontroller’s s reen. The word ‘IDENT’ will appear in
the upper left orner of the display while the IDENT mode is a tive.
VFRSets the transponder ode to the pre-programmed VFR ode sele ted
in Confi guration Mode (this is set to 1200 at the fa tory). Pressing the VFR
key again restores the previous identifi ation ode.
FUNCChanges the page shown on the right side of the display. Display
data in ludes Pressure Altitude, Flight Time, Count Up and Count Down
timers. In the Confi guration Mode, steps through the fun tion pages.
START/STOPStarts and stops the Altitude Monitor, Count Up, Count
Down and Flight timers. In onfi guration mode, steps through fun tions in
reverse.
CRSRInitiates starting time entry for the Count Down timer and an els
transponder ode entry. Returns ursor to last ode digit within fi ve se -
onds after entry. Sele ts hangeable fi elds in Confi guration Mode.
CLRResets the Count Up, Count Down and Flight timers. Can els the
previous keypress during ode sele tion and Count Down entry. Returns
ursor to the fourth ode digit within fi ve se onds after entry. Used in
Confi guration Mode.
8Redu es Contrast and Display Brightness when the respe tive fi elds are
displayed and enters the number eight into the Count Down timer. Used
in Confi guration Mode.
9In reases Contrast and Display Brightness when the respe tive fi elds are
displayed and enters the number nine into the Count Down timer. Used in
Confi guration Mode.

PRESSURE ALT: Displays the altitude data supplied to the GTX 330 in feet,
hundreds of feet (i.e., fl ight level), or meters, depending on onfi guration.
FLIGHT TI E: Displays the Flight Time, ontrolled by the START/STOP
and CLR keys when Automated Airborne Determination is onfi gured
as normal. Under Automated Airborne Determination ontrol, the timer
begins when lift off is sensed.
ALTITUDE ONITOR: Controlled by START/STOP key. A tivates a
voi e alarm and warning annun iator when altitude limit is ex eeded.
OAT/DALT: Displayed when the GTX 330 is onfi gured with temperature
input. Displays Outside Air Temperature and Density Altitude.
COUNT UP TI ER: Controlled by START/STOP and CLR keys.
COUNT DOWN TI ER: Controlled by START/STOP, CLR, and CRSR
keys. The initial Count Down time is entered with the 0 – 9 keys.
CONTRAST: This page is only displayed if manual ontrast mode is
sele ted in Confi guration Mode. Contrast is ontrolled by the 8 and 9 keys.
DISPLAY: This page is only displayed if manual ba klighting mode is sele ted
in Confi guration Mode. Ba klighting is ontrolled by the 8 and 9 keys.
GT 330 Confi guration Mode
The GTX 330’s onfi guration is normally set at time of installation, in luding the unique
Mode S air raft address. To view or hange any of the GTX 330 onfi guration parameters,
you must a ess the GTX 330 Confi guration Mode. Use aution when hanging onfi gura-
tion. When in doubt, onta t your authorized GARMIN Aviation Servi e Center. Your Garmin
dealer an assist in onfi guration hanges. The Confi guration Mode should not be used during
fl ight.
To use the GTX 330 Confi guration Mode:
1. Press and hold the FUNC key while powering on the unit using the STB , ON, or ALT key
(or using an avionics master switch).
2. Press the FUNC key to sequence through the confi guration pages. Press the START/STOP
key to sequence in reverse. Reverse sequence stops on the isplay Mode page.
3. Use the CRSR key to highlight selectable fi elds on each page.
4. When a fi eld is highlighted, use the 8 or 9 keys to select changeable fi elds or the 0 - 9
keys to enter numeric data.
5. Press the CRSR key to confi rm list selections.
Function Display

Altitude Trend Indicator
When the ‘PRESSURE ALT’ page is displayed, an arrow may be displayed to the right of
the altitude, indi ating that the altitude is in reasing or de reasing. One of two sizes of arrows
may be displayed depending on the rate of limb/des ent. The sensitivity of these arrows is set
using the GTX 330 Confi guration Mode verti al speed rate.
Timer Operation
To operate the Flight Timer:
1. Press the FUNC key until ‘FLIGHT TIME’ is displayed.
2. If the GTX 330 is confi gured with Automated Airborne etermination, the timer will begin auto-
matically when the unit senses that the aircraft has become airborne. The timer may be reset to
zero at every lift off, continue accumulating time at lift off or may be controlled manually.
3. If desired, you may press START/STOP to pause or restart the timer.
4. Press CLR to reset the timer to zero.
5. If the timer is confi gured to start automatically it will pause when the Automated Airborne
etermination senses that the aircraft is on the ground.
To operate the Count Up timer:
1. Press the FUNC key until ‘COUNT UP’ is displayed.
2. If necessary, press CLR to reset the Count Up timer to zero.
3. Press START/STOP to count up.
4. Press START/STOP again to pause the timer.
5. Press CLR to reset the timer to zero.
To operate the Count Down timer:
1. Press the FUNC key until ‘COUNT OWN’ is displayed.
2. Press CRSR and use the 0 - 9 keys to set the initial time. All digits must be entered (use
the 0 key to enter leading zeros).
3. Press START/STOP to count down.
4. Press START/STOP again to pause the timer.
5. When the Count own timer expires, the ‘COUNT OWN’ banner is replaced with a
fl ashing ‘EXPIRE ’, and the time begins counting up.
6. Press CLR to reset the timer to the initial time value.
Automatic ALT/GND Mode Switching
If the GTX 330 is onfi gured with Automated Airborne Determination, normal operation
begins when liftoff is sensed. When the air raft is on the ground the s reen automati ally
displays GND. The transponder does not respond to ATCRBS interrogations when GND is
annun iated. When a delay time is set in the Confi guration Mode, the GTX 330 waits a spe i-
fi ed length of time after landing before hanging to GND mode.
Failure Annunciation
If the unit dete ts an internal failure, the s reen displays FAIL.

GT 330 Mode S Transponder Features
Traffi c Information Service
The GTX 330 Mode S transponder provides a data link for Traffi Information Servi e
(TIS). TIS provides a graphi display of traffi information in the o kpit for non-TCAS
equipped air raft. Transponder-equipped air raft an be displayed within the overage volume
on indi ators su h as a Garmin 430 or 530, within range of your position. Air raft without an
operating transponder are invisible to TIS. Refer to 400/500 series pilot literature for details.
Mode S Data transmission
In addition to 4096 ode and pressure altitude, the GTX 330 is apable of transmitting
air raft registration number or fl ight ID, transponder apability and maximum speed range.
Audio Alerts
(Confi guration options; male/female voi e or tone, and volume level.)
• “Leaving Altitude” Altitude deviation is ex eeded.
• “Traffi ” TIS traffi alert is re eived.
• “Traffi Not Available” TIS servi e is not available or out of range.
• “Timer Expired” for ountdown time.
