Important Safeguards
Carefully read all instructions before operating this appliance and save the
instructions for further reference. Do not attempt to use this appliance for any other
than the intended use, described in these instructions. Any other use, especially misuse, can
cause severe injuries or damage by electric shock, heat or fire.
Any operation, repair and technical maintenance of the appliance or any part of it other than
described in these instructions may only be performed at an authorised service centre. Please
contact your vendor.
• This appliance is for household use only and NOT intended for use in moving vehicles. Do
not operate or store the appliance in humid or wet areas or outdoors. Do not attempt to ope-
rate the appliance using any parts or accessories not recommended by the manufacturer to
avoid risk of overheating, fire, and/or electric shock.
• Check the entire appliance regularly for proper operation—especially the power cord. The
pins of the power plug must be clean, smooth, and without discoloration. Do not operate the
appliance, when the appliance or any part of it is likely to be damaged, to avoid risk of fire,
electric shock or any other damage and/or injuries to persons. The appliance is likely to be
damaged if the appliance was subject to inadmissible strain (e.g. overheating, mechanical
or electric shock, moisture), or if there are any cracks, excessively frayed or melted parts, or
distortions, or if the appliance is not working properly. In this case, immediately unplug the
appliance and return the entire appliance (including all parts and accessories) to an authori-
sed service centre for examination and repair.
• Bread, cakes and pastries can catch fire, when overheated! During operation
keep the appliance in an appropriate distance of at least 20 cm on each side to furniture,
walls, boards, curtains and other objects. Do not operate the appliance near inflammable
liquids (e.g. high-proof alcohol) or beneath any heat-sensitive or moisture-sensitive materials or
beneath boards or drop-lights to avoid damage caused by steam, condensate or fire. Before
operating, always ensure that there are no foreign objects in the slots and the crumb tray is
installed properly. Do not insert wrapped foods (e.g. in kitchen foil), to avoid risk of fire, elec-
tric shock, and damage. Immediately unplug the appliance, if there is any kind of
malfunction or problem (e.g. overheating or smoke is coming from the slots).
• DO NOT attempt to dislodge food when the toaster is connected to the
power supply!
If food becomes stuck in the appliance, disconnect the plug from the power supply and wait
for the appliance to cool before attempting to remove the food. DO NOT poke in the toasting
slots with any objects (e.g. cooking utensils) or your fingers. Always take care not to damage
the internal mechanism or the heating elements of the appliance. When removing food after
toasting, keep in mind that just toasted food will be very hot.
• Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used near young children. Do not
let young children play with any parts of the appliance or the packaging. The
appliance is not intended for use by children or infirm persons without supervision. For storage
always keep the entire appliance dry and clean and where young children cannot reach it.
Do not place any hard and/or heavy objects on the appliance or any part of it.
• Operate the appliance on a well accessible, stable, level, dry, heat-resistant and suitable
large table or counter. Do not place any clothes or tissue or other objects beneath or on the
appliance during operation, to avoid risk of fire, electric shock and overheating. Always
18

keep the appliance and the table or counter clean and dry, and immediately wipe off spilled
liquids. Do not place the appliance near the edge of the table or counter or on wet or inclined
surfaces or where it can fall.
• Do not place the appliance or any part of it on or near hot surfaces (e.g. heater, gas bur-
ner, grill or oven).
• Bakery produce can fall to pieces during toasting, bend and even catch fire when overhe-
ated. Do not leave the appliance unattended, when connected to the power
supply. Always disconnect the appliance from the power supply, when the appliance is not
in use and, additionally, allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning or moving the
appliance, or removing any parts. Always grasp the appliance on its side panels with both
hands for moving or lifting the appliance.
• Only toast slices of simple bakery produce without any filling or glaze (e.g. butter,
jam, mayonnaise, or icing) and of suitable size. (See: Technical Specifications) The slices may
not protrude the slots or stick or jam in the slots. Do not use the appliance for toasting or coo-
king of very dry cakes and pastries (e.g. cookies), filled rolls, sandwiches, or other foodstuffs.
• Never use abrasive cleaners, cleaning pads or any hard and sharp objects (e.g. metal
scouring pads) for cleaning. Do not immerse the toaster or power cord in water or any other
liquid. Do not spill or drip any liquids on the toaster or power cord to avoid risk of fire and
electric shock. When liquids are spilled on the exterior of the appliance, immediately press the
cancel button X, unplug the power cord and dry the appliance. Do not handle the appliance
or any part of it with violence.
• DO NOT place the appliance or any part of it in an automatic dishwasher.
• If smoke comes out of the slots or the bread crumbles or bends in the slots, then immediately
cancel the toasting process by pressing the cancel button (X), and unplug the appliance. Wait
for the appliance to cool down, before carefully removing jammed foodstuffs.
Ensure not to
damage the internal mechanism or the heating elements on each side of the slots. Always ensure
that the crumb tray is properly in place, before operating the appliance. Provide proper ventilati-
on when using the appliance.
• Do not toast any foodstuffs that are probably off. Always keep the appliance clean as it comes
into direct contact with food.
Hot Surfaces – Risk of Burns
• Accessible parts of this appliance especially but not exclusively all metal parts (i.e. bun warmer
rack, cover of the slots) may become very hot during use. Do not touch the surfaces of the appli-
ance during operation. Always keep your hands, face and arm as well as any clothing and other
heat-sensitive objects away from the slots during operation. During operation, only touch the
appliance on the handles, knobs and buttons intended for operating. Allow to cool, before putting
on or taking off parts (e.g. crumb tray), and before cleaning the appliance.
• During operation, do not place any objects (e.g. cold bread slices, or tissue) on the appliance,
to avoid overheating, fire, and/or electric shock. Only use the separate bun warmer rack in the
way, described in these instructions. (See Operation)
19

Important Safeguards for Electrical Appliances
• Place the appliance near a suitable wall power socket to connect the appliance directly to
a protected mains power supply with protective conductor (earth/ground) connected properly.
Ensure that the voltage rating of your mains power supply corresponds to the voltage require-
ments of the appliance (220/240 V, 50 Hz, AC, rated for 16 A). Exercise caution, when using
an extension cord. The extension cord must be rated for 16 A. Do not use a multi socket
outlet.
The installation of a residual current safety switch with a maximum rated residual operating
current of 30 mA in the supplying electrical circuit is recommended. If in doubt, contact your
electrician for further information.
• Always handle the power cord with care. The power cord may never be knotted, twisted
or squeezed. Do not pull or strain the power cord. Do not wind the power cord around the
appliance. Do not let the plug or power cord hang over the edge of the table or counter. Take
care that the power cord will not get tangled up, and no one will pull the appliance by the
power cord, especially when young children are near. Always grasp the plug to disconnect the
appliance from the power outlet. Do not touch the plug or appliance with wet hands, when the
plug is connected to the power supply.
• Always switch off (cancel button X) and unplug the appliance when not in use and before
moving or cleaning the appliance. Do not leave the appliance unattended while con-
nected to the power supply.
• Do not place the appliance and/or the power cord on or near hot surfaces (heater, gas
burner, grill or oven, or even hot parts of the appliance). Do not place the appliance on the
power cord. If the power cord warms up during operation or is likely to be damaged, it must be
replaced by an authorised service centre. Do not attempt to repair the power cord!

First use
WARNING: DO NOT let young children play with the appliance, or any part of
it, or the packaging!
It is important to carefully remove all packaging and shipping materials as well as any price-
tags, but do not remove the model label on the bottom of the appliance. Ensure that there are no
foreign objects (e.g. packaging) in the slots, before operating the appliance.
Unpack the appliance carefully and check, if there are any parts damaged or missing.
Tip: The carriage lever engages in the operating position only, when the toaster is connected
to the power supply.
When using the toaster for the first time, you may notice a fine smoke haze, because of the first
heating of some of the components. There is no need for concern. To prevent smell and taste of
your food from being affected, you should heat the appliance on browning level 6 before placing
any foodstuffs in the slots (see: Operation). If the burnt smell occurs again on later use, clean the
toaster (see: Cleaning). If the burnt smell persists stubbornly even after thoroughly cleaning, return
the appliance to an authorized service centre for examination and repair.
Operation
WARNING: Before operation, always ensure that there are no foreign objects in the slots of
the appliance. NEVER poke in the slots with any foreign objects (e.g. knives, cooking utensils)
or your fingers to avoid injuries or damage due to high temperatures, fire or electric shock or
damage to the internal mechanism of the toaster or the heating elements.
DO NOT attempt to dislodge jammed food when the appliance is in opera-
tion. If food becomes stuck in the appliance, switch Off (via the cancel button X) the appli-
ance, disconnect the plug from the power supply and wait for the appliance to cool before
attempting to remove the food. DO NOT use violence when removing jammed food to avoid
damage to the internal mechanism or the heating elements. When removing foodstuffs immedi-
ately after toasting, be aware that the foodstuffs are very hot.
Note: Always ensure that the crumb tray is in place before operating the toaster. Otherwise
crumps may become charred on the bottom of the toaster and stick to the surfaces.
The bun warmer rack is intended only for warming up rolls and buns as a whole.
For toasting bread slices and halved bagels in the toasting slots, the bun warmer rack may not
be placed on the toaster.
1. Make the toaster ready for use.
Place the toaster on a suitable surface. For toasting bread slices or halved buns/bagels, remo-
ve the bun warmer rack from the toaster. Ensure that the crumb tray is inserted properly on the
back of the toaster. (See Cleaning) Insert the plug in
a suitable wall power socket. (See Important Safeguards for Electrical Appliances)
Toasting Bread Slices
2. Using a sharp knife, cut the food (bread or similar bakery produce) in slices of even thick-
ness and appropriate size: max. 12 x 12 cm; 0.5 to 2.5 cm thick. Try to get a smooth cut and
remove the crumbs.
3. Insert a slice of bread in each slot of the toaster.
4. Turn the browning control dial to the desired browning: 1 (light) to 6 (dark). For the first use,
it is recommended to select a medium browning level (3 – 4; see: Tips for Best Results).
5. Press the carriage lever down gently until it engages in the operating position. The red ope-
ration indicator illuminates (above the cancel button), and the toasting starts.

Tip: The carriage lever will only engage in the operating position when the toaster is con-
nected to the power supply.
The power will automatically turn off after the heating period is completed and the carriage
lever will return to the idle position. Toasting can be stopped manually at any time by pressing
the cancel button (X).
6. Carefully remove the toasted slices in which please keep in mind that just toasted foodstuffs
are very hot. For better access, you can lift up the carriage lever for ca. 2 cm.
CAUTION: Always ensure that the toaster is disconnected from the power supply when not in
use.
7. When you finished toasting, unplug the toaster, let it cool down to room temperature, and
clean the toaster. (See: Cleaning)
Toasting Frozen Foodstuffs Using the Defrost Button
The defrost function enhances the toasting time for toasting frozen bread without prior thaw-
ing.
1. Prepare the toaster for operation. (See Toasting Bred Slices)
2. Carefully press down the carriage lever until it engages in the operating position.
3. Thereafter, immediately press the defrost button. The power indicator of the button illumi-
nates until toasting is done. Thereafter, the carriage lever returns to the idle position and the
toaster switches back to normal operation automatically.
Warming Cold Toast Using the Reheat Function
The reheat function shortens the toasting time for warming cold toast.
4. Prepare the toaster for operation. (See Toasting Bred Slices)
5. Carefully press down the carriage lever until it engages in the operating position.
6. Thereafter, immediately press the reheat button. The power indicator of the button illumi-
nates until toasting is done. Thereafter, the carriage lever returns to the idle position and the
toaster switches back to normal operation automatically.
Toasting Halved Buns on One Side Using the Bagel Function
You can heat the two sides of your foodstuffs differently using the bagel function that activates
more heating power for the heating elements in the centre strip than for the elements on the
outer sides of the slots. Use the bagel function for crisping up halved rolls, with the soft inner
side of the sliced rolls facing to the centre strip of the toaster.
1. Cut the buns or bagels into halves using a sharp knife, and remove all loose crumbs.
Important: Ensure that the halves are up to a maximum of 2.5 cm thick; otherwise the buns/
bagels could jam in the slots.
2. Place one cut half in each slot.
Note: The cut side that is to be toasted must face towards the inner heating elements that are
between the two toaster slots. The other side will be gently warmed.
3. Press the carriage lever down, and thereafter, immediately press the bagel button to start
this function.
The power indicator above the bagel button illuminates until toasting is done. Thereafter, the
carriage lever returns to the idle position and the toaster switches back to normal operation
automatically.
22

23
Using the Bun Warmer Rack
The bun warmer rack is intended for warming up buns
and rolls in a whole.
Note: Do not place the buns or any other
objects directly on the toaster to avoid overheating.
WARNING: Do not touch the metal parts of the bun
warmer rack during and/or immediately after ope-
ration, as the bun warmer rack will become
very hot during use. If you wish to remove the bun
warmer rack, do so with care using the grey thermally
insulated handles on each side. Do not place the hot
bun warmer rack on or near heat-sensitive surfaces. Let
the toaster and all parts of the toaster cool down for at least 10 minutes, before moving, clea-
ning, and storing.
Do not warm up foodstuffs that have liquid content or any ingredients that may melt and/or
drip into the toaster when hot. When removing the foodstuffs from the toaster, be aware that
just toasted foodstuffs are very hot.
1. Place the bun warme rack on the toaster with the crosswise running wires upwards (see
figure).
2. Adjust the browning control dial to the required setting. (See Tips for Best Results)
3. Place up to 2 (whole) buns on the bun warmer rack. The buns may not contain any ingre-
dients that may melt when heated and/or drip.
Tip: To avoid that the buns get charred at the surface, just moisten the buns a little immediately
before toasting. Doing so, ensure that no water will drip into the toaster.
4. Gently press the carriage lever down to start.
The power indicator above the cancel button (X) illuminates until toasting is done. Thereafter,
the toaster switches OFF automatically.
Tips for Best Results
Table: Setting the Browning Control Dial
Browning level Toasting time
light 1 ca. 40 seconds
2 ca. 1 minute
medium 3 ca. 1.5 minutes
4 ca. 2 minutes
dark 5 ca. 2.5 minutes
6 ca. 3 minutes
• You may cancel the toasting process at any time; to do so simply press the cancel button (X).
• The required browning level depends on your special liking and the type and
freshness of the toasted bread slices, cakes and pastries. For example: a short toasting time
(low browning level) is sufficient for toasting raisin pastry and fine white bread; but for toasting
rye bread you must select a higher browning level to get a similar result.
• You can crisp up bagels and rolls by cutting the rolls in halves, using a sharp knife,
and activating the bagel function. Ensure that the slices are max. 2.5 cm thick and will

not jam in the slots. (See: Toasting Halved Buns on One Side Using the Bagel Function)
Alternatively, to toast rolls as a whole, place the bun warmer rack on the toaster and then
place the rolls on the bun warmer rack.
• Small foodstuffs may be removed easier by using the lifting function (lifting the carriage lever
ca. 2 cm above the idle position).
• Ensure to make an even and smooth cut. Use a sharp bread knife for cutting. Remove
crumbs and protruding rims, especially when crisping up halved buns.
WARNING: Never insert your fingers in the slots. Always switch off and unplug the appliance,
and wait for the appliance to cool, before removing any jammed bread or crumbs.
• If foodstuffs stick or jam in the slots, switch off (via the cancel button X) and unplug the
toaster, and let the toaster cool down. Than remove the bread slices carefully and without vio-
lence to avoid damage to the heating elements or internal mechanism.
• It is good advice to remove crumbs from the crumb tray after every use to avoid crumbs
becoming charred and sticking on the crumb tray (see Cleaning). Always ensure that the
crumb tray is installed properly before using the toaster. Keep the toaster
always clean, as it comes in contact with food.
• The toaster will automatically switch back to normal operation after using the special func-
tions (defrost, reheat, or bagel).
• The bun warmer rack can also be used to serve the toast. Just place the bread slices vertical-
ly between the crosswise running wires.
Cleaning
WARNING: Always switch off (via the cancel button X), unplug the appliance, and wait until
the appliance is completely cool before removing the crumb tray and/or cleaning or moving
the appliance.
DO NOT immerse the toaster or power cord in water or any other liquids or pour any liquid
over the appliance. DO NOT let any liquid be spilled on or under the toaster to avoid the risk
of electric shock and/or fire.
DO NOT place the toaster or any part of it in an automatic dishwasher!
DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or any aggressive liquids, solvents or detergents as they may
damage the finish of the toaster. DO NOT poke around in the toasting slots with any objects
or your fingers to avoid damage to the internal mechanism and/or the heating elements. DO
NOT use violence.
1. Switch off the toaster via the cancel button (X) and unplug and let the toaster cool down to
room temperature.
2. Carefully remove any residues of the toasted foodstuffs completely.
In doing so, ensure not to damage the internal mechanism or heating elements of the toaster,
especially if foodstuffs are jammed within the slots.
3. Pull out the crumb tray at the back of the toaster by the handle, remove the crumbs and clean
the crumb tray.
4. You may use lukewarm dish-water for cleaning the crumb tray and bun warmer rack.
Thereafter, thoroughly dry these parts and let dry naturally for about half an hour.
24

5. Wipe the exterior of the toaster with a soft dry cloth.
In most cases, this is sufficient, but if there are stains on the housing of the toaster, you may wipe
the exterior of the toaster with a soft damp cloth.
Ensure that no liquids drip on the toaster. Thoroughly dry the housing of the toaster
thereafter.
CAUTION: Do not insert the crumb tray, when it is still wet. Always ensure that the crumb tray
is properly installed before using the toaster again.
6. Insert the crumb tray in the slot at the back of the toaster and push it in gently. Only the knob
of the crumb tray may protrude.
Storage
WARNING: Always unplug the toaster, when it is not in use. Always wait until
the toaster is completely cool before storing. Do not wind the power cord around the toaster!
To move the toaster, grasp it with both hands on the side panels. Always place the toaster
on a stable, clean, and dry surface, where it is save from inadmissible strain (e.g. fall, shock,
frost) and out of reach of young children. Do not place any hard or heavy objects on
the toaster.
You may store the toaster with the bun warmer rack hanging on the two hooks on the rear of
the toaster housing.
