the cooktop.
• Keep hood and grease filters dean to
maintain good venting and to avoid
grease fires.
• When preparing flaming foods under the
vent hood, tom the fan on.
• Do not let cooking grease or other
flammable materials accumulate on
the cooktop.
• Do not touch surface units. These surfaces
may be hot enough to burn even though
they are dark in color. During and after
use, do not touch, or let clothing or other
flammable materials contact surface units
or areas nearby surface units; allow
sufficient time for cooling first.
Potentially hot surfaces include the
cooktop and areas facing the cooktop.
• To minimize the possibility of burns,
ignition of flarnmable materials and
spillage, the handle of a container
should be turned toward the center
of the cooktop without extending over
any nearby surface units.
• Always turn the surface units to OFFbefore
removing cookware.
• To avoid the possibility of a burn or electIic
shock, always be certain that the controls
for all surface units are at the OBr position
and all surface units are cool before
attempting to lift or remove the unit.
•Do not immerse or soak the removable
surface units. Do not put them in a
dishwasher.
•Clean the cooktop with caution. Ira
wet sponge or cloth is used to wipe spills
on a hot surface, be careful to avoid
steam burns.
• Do not store or use combustible materials,
gasoline or other flammable vapors and
liquids in the vicinity of this or any
appliance.
• Clean only parts listed in this Owner's
Manual.
•Do not leave paper products, cooking
utensils or food on the cooktop when

• Keep cooktop clean and flee of

1Never leave the surface units unattended at
high heat settings. Boilovers cause smoking
and greasy spillovers that may catch on fire.
•Be sure the drip pans and the duct are not
covered and are in place. Their absence
during cooking could damage cooktop
parts and wiring.
• Do not use aluminum foil to line the drip
pans. Misuse could result in a shock, fire
hazard or damage to the cooktop.
• Only certain types of glass, glass/ceramic,
earthenware or other glazed containers are
suitable for cooktop service; others may
break because of the sudden change in
temperature.
• Keep an eye on foods being tided at HI
or Medi_ Rig/# heat settings.
• Foods for frying should be as d_ as
possible. Frost on frozen foods or moisture
on fresh foods can cause hot fat to bubble
up and over the sides of the pan.
• Use little fat for effective shallow or deep-
fat frying. Filling the pan too full of fat can
cause spillovers when food is added.
•Ifa combination of oils or fats will be used
in frying, stir together before heating, or as
fats meh slowly.
•Always heat fat slowly, and watch as it heats.
•Use a deep fat thermometer whenever
possible to prevent overheating fat beyond
the smoking point.
•Never try to move apan of hot fat,
especially a deep fat flyer. Walt until
the fat is cool.

Yoursurfaceunitsandcontrolsaredesignedto
giveyouaninfinitechoiceofheatse_'ngsfor
surfaceunitcooking.
At both O/:Fand HI the control clicks
into position.
When cooking in a quietkitchen, you
mayhear slight clickingsounds-an
indication that the heat settings you
selected arebeing maintained.
Switching heats to higher settings always
results ina quicker change than switching
to lowersettings.
How to Set the Controls
[] Grasp the control knob and push
down.
[] Turn the knob to the desired heat
setting.
The control must be pushed in to set only
from the OFFposition. When the control
isin any position other than ORSit may
be rotated without pushing in.
Be sure you turn the control knob to OFF
when you finishcooking.

Do not use woes thathave support rings.
Use of these types ofwoks, with or
without the ring in place, can be
dangerous. Placing the ring over the
surface unit will cause a build-up of heat
that willdamage the cooktop.
Do not try to usesuch woes without the
ring. You could be seriously burned if the
wok tipped over.
Home Canning tips
Besure the canner is centered over the
surface unit.
Make sure the canner isflat on the
bottom.
Use recipes and procedures fi'om
reputable sources. These are available
from manufacturers such asBalle and
Kerr*and the Department ofAgriculture
Extension Service.
To prevent bums from steam or heat, use
caution when canning.

Moldedrib ControlKnobs
TheconD'olknobsmayberemovedforcleaning.
Before removing the knobs for deaning,
please note that the knobs on the left side
and the knobs on the right side are in the
proper OBvposition. When replacing the
knobs, check the 0ff Posidon to insure
proper alignment.
Tommm_ aknob,pullit straight off the
stem.
Wash the knobs in soap and water but do
not soak. Avoid getting water down in to
the knob stem holes.

each side of the knob stem. One of the
grooves contains a spring clip and the
other groove is clear. Locate the molded
ribinside the knob. Fitthe molded rib
into the dear groove on the knob stem.
Porcelain Enamel Cooktop (onsomemodels)

This finish is acid-resistant. However, any
acid foods spilled (such as fi'uitjuices,
tomato or xfnegar) should not be
permitted to remain on the finish.

Rinse well. Polish with a drycloth.
Ifacids spili on the cooktop while it is
hot, use a drypaper towel or cloth to
wipe itup rightaway. When the surface
has cooled, wash with soap and water.

Stainless Steel Cooktop(onsomemodels)
Donot useasteel-woolpad;it will
scratchthesurface.
To clean the stainless steel surface,
use a hot, damp cloth with a mild
detergent suitable for stainless steel
surfaces. Use a clean, hot, damp
cloth to remove soap. Dry with a
dry, clean cloth.
If food soil remains, try ageneral
kitchen cleaner, such as Fantastik, °
Simple Green °,or Formula 409 °.
For hard-to-clean soil, use a
standard stainless steel cleaner,
such as Bon-Ami e or Cameo °.
Apply cleaner with adamp sponge.
Use a clean, hot, damp cloth to
remove cleaner. Dry with a dry,
clean cloth. Always scrub lightly
in the direction of the grain.
After cleaning, use a stainless steel
polish, such as Stainless Steel Magic °,
Revere Copper and Stainless Steel
Cleaner*, or Wenol All Purpose
Metal Polish? Follow the product
instructions for cleaning the stainless
steel surface.

Surface Units and Drip Paps
CAUTION

before attempting to remove them.
• Do not immerse the surface traitsin
liquids of any kind.

•Do not bend the surface unit plug
terminals,
Toreplace asudaceunit
•Replace the drippan into the recessin
the cooktop. Make sure opening in the
pan lines up with the receptacle.
•Insert the terminals of the surface unit
through the opening in the drip pan
and into the receptacle.
• Guide the surface unit into place so it
rests even_.
DripPans
• Do not attempt to clean, adjust or in
any way repair the plug-in receptacle. Remove the surface units. Then lift out the drippans.
Toremove•sur_ceunit:
To remove the drippans for cleaning, the
surface units must be removed first.
Lift the surface unit about 1 inch above
the drip pan and pull it out.
Do not lift the surface unit more than 1
inch. Ifyou do, it may not lie flat on the
drip pan when you plug it back in.
Repeated lifting of the surface unit more
than 1inch above the drip pan can
permanently damage the receptacle.
Forbest results, dean the drip pans by
hand. Place them in a covered container
(or a plastic bag) with 1/4 cup ammonia
to loosen the soil. Then scrub with a soap
filled scouring pad ifnecessa_. Rinse
with clean water and polish with a clean
soft doth.

Clean the area under the drip pans often.
Built-upsoil, especially grease, maycatch
onfire.
Do not cover drip pans with foil. Using
foil so dose to the receptacle could cause
shock, fire or damage to the cooktop.

This appliance must be supplied with the proper
voltage and fi'equency and connected to an
individual, properly grounded branch circuit,
protected by a circuit breaker or time delay fuse,
as noted on the rating plate.
All wireconnections must be made in accordance
with local codes and properly insulated, Check
with your local utilityfor governing electrical
codes and ordinances.
In the absence of local electrical codes, the
National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No.
70-Latest Edition, governing electric range
installations, must be followed.

You must use a two-wire A.C. 208/240 Volt,
60 Hertz electrical system. A white (neutral) wire
is not needed for this unit. The white lead fi'om
the household electrical supply can be isolated
and secured in thejunction box. If YOUconnect
toaluminumwiring,properly installed connections
listedforuse with aluminumand copperwiring
mustbe used.
Use a minimmn wire size of No. 12 copper wire
with a20 Amp fuse orcircuit breaker for both
208/240 Volt electrical systems.
When making the wire connections, use the
entire length of conduit provided. The conduit
must not be cut.
Connect the red and blackleads from the counter
unit conduit to the corresponding leadsin the
junction box.
The bare ground wire in the conduit is connected
to the counter unit frame, It must be connected to
the household electrical supply ground.
