Tip-over Hazards
Do not raise the platform unless the base is level,
allfour outriggersareproperly installedandthe
leveling jacks firmly contact the floor.
Do not adjust or remove the outriggers while the
platform is occupied or raised.
Do not move the machine while the platform is
raised.
Do not place ladders or scaffolds in the platform or
against any part of this machine.
Do not place or attach overhanging loads to any
part of this machine.
Do not raise the platform unless the machine is
level. Do not set the machine up on a surface
where it cannot be leveled using only the leveling
jacks. Do not use chocks, blocks or shims of any
kind to level the machine.
Do not cause a horizontal force or side load to the
machine by raising or lowering a fixed or
overhangingload.
Do not push off or pull
towardany object outside
theplatform.

Donot operate themachinenear drop-offs, holes,
bumps, debris, unstable or slippery surfaces or
otherpossiblehazardousconditions.
Do not alter or disable machine components that in
any way affect safety and stability.
Do not replace items critical to stability with items
of different weight or specification. Use only Genie
authorizedreplacementparts.
Do not push the Genie AWP from the platform side
of the machine.
When moving the machine with a forklift or other
transport vehicle, the platform should be fully
lowered,themachineshouldbe turned off and no
personnelshall remain in the platform.
Do not use the machine to lift material or
equipment. The machine is intended to lift
personnel and tools to an aerial work site.
Fall Hazards
Do not sit, stand or climb
onthe platform guard rails.
Maintain a firm footing on
the platform floor at all
times.
Do not exit the platform
while raised. If a power

Electrocution Hazards
This machine, even with an optional fiberglass
platform, is not electrically insulated and will not
provide protection from contact with or proximity to
electricalcurrent.
Keep away from the machine if it contacts
energizedpowerlinesorbecomes electrically
charged.Personnel on thegroundor in theplatform
must not touch or operate the machine until
energizedpowerlinesareshutoff.
Maintain safe distances from electrical power lines
andapparatusinaccordancewithapplicable
governmentalregulationsandthefollowingchart.

Donotuse a damaged or malfunctioning machine.

as specified in this manual and the Genie AWP
SuperSeries service manual.
Be sure all decals are in place and legible.
Be sure the operator’s, safety and responsibilities
manualsarecomplete, legible and in the storage
containerlocatedon the platform.
Conductathoroughpre-operationinspectionofthe
machine and test all functions before each
work shift. Immediately tag and remove from
serviceadamagedor malfunctioningmachine.

Battery and Charger Safety
- DC Models
Burn Hazards
Batteries contain acid. Always wear protective
clothingandeyewearwhenworkingwithbatteries.
Avoid spilling or contacting
batteryacid.Neutralize
battery acid spills with

The battery pack must

position.
Explosion Hazards
Batteries emit explosive

Breather Cap - AC & DC Models
Componentdamagewill occur if the machine
is operated without a breather cap. Check to make
sure the breather cap is in place in the hydraulic
reservoir.
AWP-36&AWP-40:The
first time these machines
are set up for use, the pipe
plug in the hydraulic
reservoirshouldbe
removedandpermanently
replacedwithabreather
cap.
A breather cap is supplied and can be found
in an envelope taped to the mast near the
platformcontrols.
Fundamentals
It is the responsibility of the operator to perform a
Pre-operationInspectionandroutinemaintenance.
The Pre-operation Inspection is a visual inspection
performed by the operator prior to each work shift.
The inspection is designed to discover if anything
isapparentlywrong with a machine before the
operator performs the function tests.
ThePre-operation inspection also serves to
determineifroutinemaintenanceproceduresare
required.Onlyroutinemaintenanceitemsspecified
in this manual may be performed by the operator.
Refer to the list on the next page and check each
of the items and locations for modifications,
damage or loose or missing parts.
A damaged or modified machine must never be
used. If damage or any variation from factory
deliveredcondition is discovered, the machine
must be tagged and removed from service.
Repairs to the machine may only be made by a
qualified service technician, according to the
manufacturer'sspecifications.Afterrepairsare
completed,the operatormustperform a
pre-operationinspectionagainbeforegoingonto
the function tests.
Scheduledmaintenanceinspectionsshallbe
performedbyqualifiedservicetechnicians,
accordingtothe manufacturer's specifications and
the requirements listed in the responsibilities
manual.

PRE-OPERATIONINSPECTION
Pre-operation Inspection
Be sure that the operator’s, safety and
responsibilitiesmanualsarecomplete,legible
and in the storage container located on the
platform.
Be sure that all decals are legible and in place.
See Decals section.
Check for battery fluid leaks and proper fluid
level. Add distilled water if needed. See
Maintenancesection.
AC & DC models: Check for hydraulic oil leaks
and proper oil level. Add oil if needed. See
Maintenancesection.
RTbase models: Check for proper tire pressure.
Add air to tires if needed. See Maintenance
section.
Air models: Check the oil level of the airline
lubricator.SeeMaintenancesection.
Air models: Check the oil lubricator canister drip
rate.Adjust as needed. See Maintenance
section.
Air models: Check the air filter/regulator

Check the Battery - DC Models
Proper battery condition is essential to good
machineperformanceandsafeoperation.Improper
fluid levels or damaged cables and connections can
resultinenginecomponentdamageandhazardous
conditions.
Electrocutionhazard. Contactwith
hot or live circuits could result in
death or serious injury. Remove all
rings,watches and otherjewelry.
Bodily injury hazard. Batteries
contain acid. Avoid spilling or
contactingbatteryacid.Neutralize
battery acid spills with baking soda
andwater.
Perform this test after fully
chargingthebattery.
1 Put on protective clothing and eye wear.
2 Remove the battery vent caps.
3 Check the battery acid level. If needed,
replenish with distilled water to the bottom of the
battery fill tube. Do not overfill.
4 Install the vent caps.

MAINTENANCE
Check the Hydraulic Oil Level
Maintaining the hydraulic oil at the proper level is
essentialtomachineoperation.Improperhydraulic
oil levels can damage hydraulic components. Daily
checks allow the inspector to identify changes in oil
level that might indicate the presence of hydraulic
system problems.
1 Be sure the platform is fully lowered.
2 Check the sight gauge on the side of the
hydraulicreservoir.
Result: The hydraulic oil level should be visible
in the middle of the sight gauge. Do not overfill.

Check the Tire Pressure - RT
Base Models
It is essential to maintain proper pressure in all air-
filled tires. Improperly inflated tires can affect
machinehandling.
1 Check each tire with an air pressure gauge. Add
airasneeded. The proper air pressure is
stamped on the tire.
Check the Air Line Lubricator Oil
Level - Air Models
Maintainingtheproperoillevel in the lubricator
canister is essential to safe operation and good
machineperformance.Failuretokeepthelubricator
canister at the proper oil level could result in unsafe
operatingconditionsandpossiblecomponent
damage.
1 Be sure the platform is fully lowered.
2 Inspect the lubricator canister for the proper oil
level.
Result: The oil level must be within 1/2inch /
12.7 mm from the top of the lubricator canister.
3 To add oil, remove the oil lubricator canister
from the lubricator base and fill with oil. Install
the canister back onto the lubricator base.

Check the Oil Lubricator
Canister Drip Rate - Air Models
Maintainingthe proper oildriprateinto the lubricator
canister is essential to safe operation and good
machineperformance.Failuretomaintainthe
properdripratecould resultin machinecomponent
damage.
1 While raising the platform, visually inspect the
oillubricator sight gauge.
Result: There should be a maximum of 1 to 2
drops of oil visible in the sight gauge.
2 To adjust the drip rate, turn the oil flow control
valve clockwise to decrease the flow or
counterclockwise to increase the flow.
3 Repeatthis procedureuntil theproperoil drip
rate is achieved.
Check the Air Filter/Regulator
Canister - Air Models
It is essential to drain the air filter/regulator canister
ofwatertoensuregoodair motorperformance and
service life. A water-filled canister could cause the
airmotorto perform poorly and continued use could
causecomponentdamage.
1 Check the air filter/regulator canister for any
wateraccumulation.
2 If water is visible, loosen the drain plug at the
bottom of the canister and allow the water to
drainout.
3 Tightenthedrainplug.
Scheduled Maintenance
Maintenanceperformedquarterly,annuallyand
every two years must be completed by a person
trainedand qualifiedtoperform maintenanceonthis
machineaccordingtotheproceduresfound in the
service manual for this machine.
Machines that have been out of service for more
than three months must receive the quarterly
inspection before they are put back into service.

Fundamentals
The Function Tests are designed to discover any
malfunctions before the machine is put into service.
Theoperator must follow thestep-by-step
instructions to test all machine functions.
A malfunctioning machine must never be used. If
malfunctions are discovered, the machine must be
tagged and removed from service. Repairs to the
machine may only be made by a qualified service
technician,according tothemanufacturers
specifications.
Afterrepairsare completed, the operator must
performapre-operationinspectionandfunction
tests before putting the machine into service.

FUNCTIONTESTS
Function Tests
Setup
1 Position the machine directly below the desired
workarea.
2 Connecttotheappropriatepowersource:
DC models: Connect battery pack.
AC models: Connect to a grounded 15A AC
powersupply. Use a 12 gauge / 3.3mm23-wire
groundedextensioncordnolongerthan
50 feet / 13 m.
Air models: Connect the airline.
3 Insert the key and turn to the ON position OR
turn to platform control.
4 Pull out the red Emergency Stop button to the
ON position at the ground controls.
5 Twist to release the red Emergency Stop button
at the platform controls.
Result: AC & DC models: The power light should
come on.
Air models: The air
pressuregaugeshould
read80-110psi/5.5-
7.8bar.
6 Selectanoutriggerand
slide it into a base
socket until the
outriggerlockpin snaps
into place. Adjust the
outriggertolevelthe
machineand raise the
base casters slightly off
theground. Levelthe
machine using only the
outriggers.Do notuse
chocks, blocks or shims
to level the machine.
7 Check the interlock display lights at the ground
controls. Confirm that the corresponding light is
on.
8 Repeatthis procedure foreachof theremaining
outriggers.
9 Use the bubble level and adjust the leveling
jacks until the machine base is level.
TestEmergencyStop
10 Push in the red Emergency Stop button at the
groundcontrolstotheOFF position.
11 Push in the control activate button and rotate
the up/down switch in the direction of intended
travel.

12 Push in the red Emergency Stop button at the
platform controls to the OFF position.
13 Pull out the red Emergency Stop button at the
ground controls to the ON position.
14 Push in the control activate button and rotate
the up/down switch in the direction of intended
travel.
Result:Theup/downfunctionshouldnot
operate.
TestOutriggerInterlock
15 Twist to release the red Emergency Stop button
at the platform controls.
Result:Theup/down functionsshouldoperate.
16 Unscrew one leveling jack until the
corresponding interlock display light turns off.
Result:Theup/downfunctionshouldnot
operate.
17 Return the leveling jack to the previous setting
and check the bubble level.
18 Repeatthisprocedureforeachoutrigger.

19 Raise the platform slightly.
20 Disconnect the power source from the machine.
21 Turn the key switch to ground control
(ifequipped).
22 Push in the auxiliary platform lowering button at
thegroundcontrols.
Result:The platformshouldlower.
FUNCTION TESTS
23 Connect the power source to the machine.
24 Turn the key switch to platform control
(ifequipped).
25 Raise the platform slightly.
26 Disconnect the power source from the machine.
27 Push in the control activate button and rotate
the up/down switch in the down direction.
Result:The platformshouldlower.
28 Connectthe power source to the machine.

It is the operator’s responsibility to read and

and avoid them while moving, setting up and
