1.0 INTRODUCTION
This manual is intended for all users of Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V manufactured
by Geosense and provides information on their installation, operation and maintenance.
1.1 General Description
The Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V is a small, portable, battery powered datalogger
system for use with instruments that output in voltage.
All parts are enclosed in a robust plastic waterproof box with easy to connect, waterproof
terminals for plugging in sensors and connecting to a PC or Laptop via the supplied
cable. The box comes fitted with soft foam inserts to protect and store the instruments
and logging equipment.
The Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V comes with a lithium ion battery that powers the
sensor. It also comes with an integrated battery within the data logger

graphing and varying sampling times.

4.3 Inspection
It is vital to check all the equipment in the shipment as soon as possible after taking
delivery and well before installation is to be carried out. Check that all the
components that are detailed on the documents are included in the shipment.
Check that the equipment has not been physically damaged.
If components are missing or damaged, contact the delivery company, the supplier
and / or Geosense.
4.0 DELIVERY
This section should be read by all users of the Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V
4.2 Handling
Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V are robust electronic items, therefore while
robust there is a risk of damage if incorrectly handled .They and their associated
equipment should always be handled with care during transportation, storage and
installation.
Once the shipment has been checked ( see below ), it is recommended that the
Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V remains in its original packaging for storage or
transportation.
4.1 Packaging
Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V are packed for transportation to their desired
location. Packaging is suitably robust to allow normal handling by transportation
companies. However, inappropriate handling techniques may cause damage to the
packaging and the enclosed equipment. The packaging should be carefully
inspected upon delivery and any damage MUST be reported to both the
transportation company and Geosense®.

4.4 Storage
All equipment should be stored in an environment that is protected from direct
sunlight.
Although the case of the Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V is weatherproof (IP67
standard), due to the electrical nature of the components any moisture will
permanently damage the function of the dataloggers as well as all components within
the datalogger system. Therefore great care must be taken to eliminate any exposure
to moisture.
As with any electrical component medium and long term care fall to preserving the
electrical parts within the interface. Therefore, the interior of the Geosense®
Geologger GL101A-V must be protected from the elements and never left exposed
to any moisture, therefore the lid must be clipped shut and connector caps screwed
tight

electronics and whilst they are mounted within an weatherproof enclosure, the

The following sections describe some typical installation procedures for Geosense®
Geologger GL101A-V
This section of the manual is intended for all users of Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V
and is intended to provide guidance with respect to their installation.
It is VITAL that personnel responsible for the installation and use of the
Geosense® Geologger GL101A-V READS and UNDERSTANDS the manual, prior to
working with the equipment.

As stated before, it is vital to check all the equipment in the shipment soon after
taking delivery and well before installation is to be carried out. Check that all
components that are detailed on the shipping documents are included.

5.3 Software
Each Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V
comes with a version of datalogger software
held on a memory stick
Before connecting the data logger to the laptop
or PC simply insert the memory stick into the
USB port and install the software
5.4 Using the Data logger software
Once the software has been installed, the
datalogger can be connected to the PC/laptop
via the supplied USB cable.
Open up the software (MadgeTech 4)
5.2 Connecting the data logger to laptop/PC
Undo the waterproof caps from the USB ports
of the side of the datalogger enclosure
When connecting via USB to a laptop/PC, the
supplied cable should be plugged into the USB
ports of the datalogger enclosure and then into
a laptop/PC with the required software
5.1 Connecting the sensors to side connectors
Open lid and take the sensors out of their
holder located within the data logger enclosure.
Undo the waterproof caps
Connect the male pin connecter to the female
pin connector and screw tight

5.5 Setting up the datalogger - Engineering
units
Click onto the Engineering units button on the
device tab as shown
Click add to add a custom unit (eg
displacement)
Right click on the datalogger required and click
properties (Ctrl + I)

5.6 Setting up the datalogger - real time
graphing
The software provided allows the user to view
the data from the datalogger to be view
graphically in real time.
Click the “realtime start” button on the device
tab
Click on the engineering units tab on the
properties window.
Tick the “enable engineering units for this
device & choose the units previously set up
Click apply
Set the start and stop method (manual or
specify time & date)
Specify using the drop down menu the reading
intervals. (for real time we suggest 1 second
reading interval)

To stop the realtime recording simply click the stop
icon on the device tab
Choose a name for each specific log then click
OK
The data will be shown graphically as shown
(Please note that the data can be viewed many
ways go to section X X to see how to change
the viewing mode)
5.7 Setting up the datalogger - logging
without PC/laptop attached
The software provided also allows the user to
log data from the sensors when a PC or laptop
are not attached.

To download the data once the datalogger has
finished logging simply connect to the
computer using the USB cable & click the
download button on the device tab
Click the custom start button on the device tab
Fill in start and stop method (manual or specific
time & date)
Fill in reading interval
Click start
The USB cable can now be removed and the
logger will continue logging for the specified
time
Name the data and click ok

This will product a tab with the date,time delta
and unit readings
Please note each tab can be saved as a file to
open in the datalogger software
The data will be shown graphically as shown
(Please note that the data can be viewed many
ways go to section X X to see how to change
the viewing mode)
5.8 Viewing data as numbers (in software)
Click the generate button on the report tab
5.9 Exporting data to excel
Click the export all data to excel button
Click yes if you would like the graph built in
excel
Click no if you would just like the numerical
data
This will export the data to an excel sheet

6.0 MAINTENANCE
The Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V’s data logger require no maintenance, due to the
use of hidden electronics.
The only maintenance needed is the replacement of the interior batteries. Geosense®
Geologger GL101A-V has ultra long life lithium batteries these will run out over time if
the unit is being used to log real time for extended periods of time. Therefore, if you are
experiencing anomalous readings or no readings at all, Geosense should be contacted
for a replacement battery.

10.0 RETURN OF GOODS
10.1 Returns procedure
If goods are to be returned for either service/repair or warranty, the customer should
contact Geosense®for a Returns Authorisation Number, request a Returned
Equipment Report Form GQF034 prior to shipment. Numbers must be clearly marked
on the outside of the shipment.
Complete the Returned Equipment Report Form GQF034, including as much detail as
possible, and enclose it with the returned goods.
Forms can be downloaded from our web site under the support section/returns
A copy of both forms should be faxed / e-mailed to the Geosense®offices, in advance of
shipping the goods.
10.1.1 Chargeable Service or Repairs
Inspection & estimate
It is the policy of Geosense®that an estimate is provided to the customer prior to any
repair being carried out. A set charge for inspecting the equipment and providing an esti-
mate is also chargeable.
10.1.2 Warranty Claim
(See Limited Warranty Conditions)
This covers defects which arise as a result of a failure in design or manufacturing. It is a
condition of the warranty that the Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V must be installed
and used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and has not been subject to
misuse.
In order to make a warranty claim, contact Geosense and request a Returned Equip-
ment Report Form QF034. Tick the warranty claim box and return the form with the
goods as above. You will then be contacted and informed whether your warranty claim is
valid.
10.2 Packaging and Carriage
All used goods shipped to the factory must be sealed inside a clean plastic bag and
packed in a suitable carton. If the original packaging is not available, Geosense should
be contacted for advice. Geosense®will not be responsible for damage resulting from
inadequate returns packaging or contamination under any circumstances.
10.3 Transport & Storage
All goods should be adequately packaged to prevent damage in transit or intermediate
storage.

11.0 LIMITED WARRANTY
The manufacturer, Geosense Limited warrants the Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V
manufactured by it, under normal use and service, to be free from defects in material and
workmanship under the following terms and conditions:-
The Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V equipment shall be installed in accordance with
the manufacturer’s recommendations.
The equipment is warranted for 1 year from the date of shipment from the manufacturer
to the purchaser.
The warranty is limited to replacement of part or parts which, are determined to be
defective upon inspection at the factory. Shipment of defective part or parts to the factory
shall be at the expense of the Purchaser. Return shipment of repaired/replaced part or
parts covered by this warranty shall be at the expense of the Manufacturer.
Unauthorised alteration and/or repair by anyone which, causes failure of the unit or
associated components will void this LIMITED WARRANTY in its entirety.
The Purchaser warrants through the purchase of the Geosense®Geologger
GL101A-V equipment that he is familiar with the equipment and its proper use. In
no event shall the manufacturer be liable for any injury, loss or damage, direct or
consequential, special, incidental, indirect or punitive, arising out of the use of or
inability to use the equipment sold to the Purchaser by the Manufacturer.
The Purchaser assumes all risks and liability whatsoever in connection with the
Geosense®Geologger GL101A-V equipment from the time of delivery to Purchaser.
