Beforeyoubegin
Pleaseprepare:
(a)TwoSATAharddrives(toensureoptimalperformance,itisrecommended thatyou usetwohard
driveswithidenticalmodeland capacity).If you do notwanttocreateRAIDwiththe SATA
controller,you mayprepareonlyone harddrive.
(b)Anemptyformatted floppydisk.
(c)WindowsXP/2000 setup disk.
(d)DriverCD foryourmotherboard.
(1)Installing SATAharddrive(s)inyoursystem
Attachone end ofthe SATAsignalcabletothe rearofthe SATAharddriveand the otherend toavailable
SATAport(s)on the motherboard(If therearemorethan one SATAcontrolleron yourmotherboard,you
maycheck the nameofthe SATAconnectortoidentifythe SATAcontrollerforthe connector.For
example,SATA0_SII/SATA1_SII iscontrolled bythe Sil3112 controller).Then connectthe powercon-
nectorfromyourpowersupplytothe harddrive.

You havetomakesurewhetherthe SATAcontrollerisconfigured correctlyinsystemBIOSSetup and
setBIOSbootsequenceforthe SATAharddrive(s).
Step 1:
Turnon yourcomputerand press DeltoenterBIOSSetup during POST(Power-OnSelfTest).Inthe
BIOSSetup menu,go tothe IntegratedPeripheralsmenu and assurethatthe OnChipSATAis
enabled.If you wanttocreateRAID,setOnChipSATAModetoRAID(RAIDbydefault).SetOnChip
SATAModetoIDEifyou do notwanttocreateRAID.

When RAIDBIOSdetectsabroken RAID,the usercan useDeleteRAIDSetting &Partition todeletethe
broken RAID.
Press ENTERon DeleteRAIDSettings&Partition item.An"E"flashcursorappearsatDrive Select
Menu forthe usertochoosethe defined drivetobe deleted."Dataon RAIDdrives will bedeleted
(Y/N)?"message will appeartoconfirmthe user'sselection.Press Yand then the dataindrivesis
destroyed.RAIDArrayListautomaticallyupdatesitself.
5.DeleteAll RAIDSettings&Partition
Press ENTERon DeleteAll RAIDSettings&Partition item."Dataon RAIDdrives will be
deleted(Y/N)?"message will appeartoconfirmthe user'sselection.Press Yand then the datain
drivesisdestroyed.RAIDArrayListautomaticallyupdatesitself.
6.RebuildRAIDArray
When adriveisreplaced orBIOSdetectsabroken RAID,the usercan useRebuildRAIDArray to
keep datacoherency forRAID1.
Press ENTERon RebuildRAIDArray item.An"R"flashcursorappearsatthe DriveSelectMenu for
the usertochoosethe validdriveofpreviouslydefined RAID1torebuild.BIOSshowsthe source
(marked with"M")and target(marked with"m")drives.
Lastlyapromptmessage "DuplicateDatafromMtom(Y/N)?"asks whethertodo drivecopy.The source
and targetdrivesareindicated by"M"and "m"inDrive SelectMenu respectively.Press Ytostartthe
rebuildprocess and dataduplication.The process statusbarshowsup during the duplication process.
