damage fromstaticelectricity,you shouldfollowsomeprecautionswheneveryou workon
yourcomputer.
1.Turnoffyourcomputerand unplug powersupply.
2.Useagrounded wriststrap beforehandling computercomponents.If you do nothaveone,
touchbothofyourhandstoasafelygrounded objectortoametalobject, suchasthe
powersupplycase.
3.Placecomponentson agrounded antistaticpad oron the bag thatcamewiththe
componentswheneverthe componentsareseparated fromthe system.
The cardcontainssensitiveelectriccomponents,whichcan be easilydamaged bystatic
electricity,sothe cardshouldbe left initsoriginalpacking until itisinstalled.
Unpacking and installation shouldbe done on agrounded anti-staticmat. The operatorshould
be wearing an anti-staticwristband,grounded atthe samepointasthe anti-staticmat.
Inspectthe cardcarton forobviousdamage.Shipping and handling maycausedamage to
yourcard.Besuretherearenoshipping and handlingdamageson the cardbeforeproceeding.

Installing YourGraphics card.
Nowthatyou haveprepared yourcomputer,you arereadytoinstall yourgraphics
acceleratorcard.
To install yourgraphics acceleratorcard:
1.Poweroff thecomputerand monitor,then
disconnectthe displaycablefromtheback
ofyourcomputer.
2.Removethe computercover.Ifnecessary,
consultyourcomputer'smanualforhelp
inremovingthe cover.
3.Removeanyexisting graphics cardfrom
yourcomputer.
Or,ifyourcomputerhasanyon-board
graphics capability,you mayneed to
disableiton the motherboard.Formore
information,se e you compu ter
documentation.

4.LocatetheAGPslot. If necessary,remove
the metalcoverfromthisslot; then align
yourgraphics cardwiththe AGPslot, and
press itinfirmlyuntil thecardisfullyeated.

The installation ofWin®98/98SE /WINDOWS®2000 /Win®ME/Win®XP driversisvery
simple.When you insertthe driverCDintoyourCD-ROMdrive,you cansee theAUTORUN
window(ifitdoesnotshowup,run "D:\setup.exe").Then you can followguidestosetup
yourGV-R9000 PROIIdriver(Pleasefollowthe subsection 3.1.3"StepByStepInstallation"
toinstall thedriverforyourGV-R9000 PROII graphics accelerator.
3.1.1.OPERATINGSYSTEMREQUIREMENT
lIf yourOSisMicrosoft Windows,when loading the GV-R9000 PROIIdriversforthe
system,pleasemakesureyoursystem(Windows98/98SE,Windows2000 or
WindowsME)hasinstalled DirectX8.1orlater.
lIf youinstall the GV-R9000 PROIIdriversforthe motherboard,whichconsistofSIS,
ALIorVIAchipsets,pleaseinstall the appropriateDriverprogramforthat
motherboard.OrpleasecontactyourmotherboardnearestdealerforM/BDriver.

98/98SE/Windows®2000/MEtoachievebetter3Dperformence.
MNote:ForsoftwareMPEGsupportinWindows®98/98SE/Windows®2000 or
Windows®ME,you mustinstall DirectX8.1(orlater) first. (If yourOSisWindows®XP,
pleaseskipthissection.)
