Introduction: The GSGC5 ISDN audio codec broadcast mixer from Glensound Electronics Ltd. is ideally suited to
news gathering. Just connect it to the EXPLORER™ 700 and dial the studio.

Product Description: The Glensound GSGC5 is rugged, portable and suitable for location work anywhere within BGAN
coverage when connected to the EXPLORER™ 700.
Fully self contained, the GSGC5 is compact, flexible and very easy to operate.
Just plug one end of the ISDN cable in the Glensound and the other end into one of the ISDN ports
on the EXPLORER™ 700 terminal, dial the studio and be ready to broadcast.
Facilities are provided for two commentators, an effects mic and a tape machine. An internal DTMF
generator is used to generate ringing, dialling, engaged and other tones. This generator can also be
used, after a call has been established, to signal the studio. A DTMF detector and sounder are also
fitted so that the studio can signal the commentator.
Using digital bandwidth compression techniques the GSGC5 provides 7.5kHz bandwidth circuits
between the studio and the outside broadcast site using a single ISDN2 B channel. It can be supplied
with a G722, an APTX, a special DUAL codec or an MPEG layer2 (also does G722). The dual codec
automatically analyses the called codec and uses the appropriate coding (either G722 or APTX). No
action is required by the operator. The GSGC5 construction is such that it is easy to retro-fit any
future codec standard.

Mic inputs, mixer and cue outputs are transformer coupled and provided on XLRs. The mixer output
is even line drive capable and in the absence of an ISDN line the cue output automatically becomes
a cue input, so the equipment can be used on analogue lines. Comprehensive software enables
customers to configure the unit to suit their exact needs and up to 12 telephone numbers can be
stored in non volatile RAM. Although normally battery operated a connector is fitted for an external
DC supply.

Instructions: If the EXPLORER™ 700 is set to the default ISDN settings then no configuration is necessary.
To check the configuration connect a computer to the LAN interface on the EXPLORER™ 700, open
your web browser and type http://192.168.0.1/ Go to Home > Settings > Interfaces > ISDN and
change the settings to match those of the picture below. If you make any changes remember to
Apply the new setting.
Connect the Glensound GSGC5 to the ISDN interface on the EXPLORER™ 700 using an ISDN
cable or the standard Cat-5 LAN cable and dial-up using the dial pad on the Glensound.

Press and hold the ‘Hold to dial’ button while dialling the studio number. End the dial string with # as
shown in this example 004539558800# and release the ‘Hold to dial’ button to connect.
The Red LED (ISDN Line) will indicate when the line is up followed by the Green LED (Codec OK) for
framing up with the other end. Both LEDs must be lit to broadcast.
Press the ‘Hang-up’ button to end the call.
Note: Plug and play.
Tested: All tests performed on the Premium (ISDN) service and Standard Data:
#1 Fourteen successful test sessions with the BBC (see below call log).
#2 Broadcasting for 4 hours and 15 minutes on a single fully charged EXPLORER™ 700
battery.
#3 Broadcasting via the ISDN service while on the Internet with two computers using
Standard Data.
Log from the web interface showing the duration of each broadcast session.
