1. Limited warranty
New equipment manufactured by seller or service supplied by seller
is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship
under normal use and service for a minimum of twelve (12) months
from date of installation, eighteen (18) months from date of
shipment, unless otherwise stated in product warranty guide
(available upon request). In the case of spare or replacement parts
manufactured by seller, the warranty period shall be for a period of
twelve months from shipment. Seller's obligation under this
warranty is limited to repairing or replacing, at its option, any part
found to its satisfaction to be so defective, provided that such part
is, upon request, returned to seller's factory from which it was
shipped, transportation prepaid. Parts replaced under warranty shall
be warranted for twelve months from the date of the repair, not to
exceed the original warranty period. This warranty does not cover
parts damaged by decomposition from chemical action or wear
caused by abrasive materials, nor does it cover damage resulting
from misuse, accident, neglect, or from improper operation,
maintenance, installation, modification or adjustment. This warranty
does not cover parts repaired outside seller's factory without prior
written approval. Seller makes no warranty as to starting
equipment, electrical apparatus or other material not of its
manufacture. If purchaser or others repair, replace, or adjust
equipment or parts without seller's prior written approval, seller is
relieved of any further obligation to purchaser under this paragraph
with respect to such equipment or parts, unless such repair,
replacement, or adjustment was made after seller failed to satisfy
within a reasonable time seller's obligations under this paragraph.
Seller's liability for breach of these warranties (or for breach of any
other warranties found by a court of competent jurisdiction to have
been given by seller) shall be limited to: (a) accepting return of such
equipment exw plant of manufacture, and (b) refunding any amount
paid thereon by purchaser (less depreciation at the rate of 15 % per
year if purchaser has used equipment for more than thirty [30]
days), and canceling any balance still owing on the equipment, or
(c) in the case of service, at seller's option, redoing the service, or
refunding the purchase order amount of the service or portion
thereof upon which such liability is based. These warranties are
expressly in lieu of any other warranties, express or implied, and
seller specifically disclaims any implied warranty of merchantability
or fitness for a particular purpose, and in lieu of any other obligation
or liability on the part of the seller whether a claim is based upon
negligence, breach of warranty, or any other theory or cause of
action. In no event shall seller be liable for any consequential,
incidental, indirect, special or punitive damages of any kind. For
purposes of this paragraph, the equipment warranted shall not
include equipment, parts, and work not manufactured or performed
by seller. With respect to such equipment, parts, or work, seller's
only obligation shall be to assign to purchaser the warranties
provided to seller by the manufacturer or supplier providing such
equipment, parts or work. No equipment furnished by seller shall be
deemed to be defective by reason of normal wear and tear, failure
to resist erosive or corrosive action of any fluid or gas, purchaser's
failure to properly store, install, operate, or maintain the equipment
in accordance with good industry practices or specific
recommendations of seller, including, but not limited to seller's
installation and operation manuals, or purchaser's failure to provide
complete and accurate information to seller concerning the
operational application of the equipment.

2. General information
2.1 Hazard statements
The symbols and hazard statements below may appear in
Grundfos installation and operating instructions, safety instructions
and service instructions.
DANGER
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will
result in death or serious personal injury.
WARNING
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in death or serious personal injury.
CAUTION
The hazard statements are structured in the following
way:

2.2 Notes
The symbols and notes below may appear in Grundfos installation
and operating instructions, safety instructions and service
instructions.
Observe these instructions for explosion-proof products.
A blue or grey circle with a white graphical symbol indicates that an
action must be taken.
A red or grey circle with a diagonal bar, possibly with a
black graphical symbol, indicates that an action must not
be taken or must be stopped.
If these instructions are not observed, it may result in
malfunction or damage to the equipment.
Tips and advice that make the work easier.
2.3 Target group
This installation and operating instructions are intended for
professional installers and for the operators of the product.
We recommend that installation is carried out by skilled persons
with technical qualifications required by the specific legislation in
force.
3. Receiving the product
3.1 Inspecting the product
Before installing the product, do the following:
1. Check that the product is as ordered.
2. Check that no visible parts have been damaged.
3. If parts are damaged or missing, contact your local Grundfos
sales company.
3.2 Scope of delivery
• Main cabinet

• One to three subcabinets

4. Installing the product
4.1 Location of cabinets
• The product must be installed in a well-ventilated room to
ensure sufficient cooling of its components.
• Make the installation in such a way that easy access is
ensured.
• Wall mounting is possible. Use screws and plugs appropriate to
the type of wall.
• The maximum distance from the subcabinets, if any, to the
main cabinet is 328 ft (100 m).
4.2 Mechanical installation
The controller is primarily designed for variable-primary-flow
systems.
The controller can handle a system that includes:
• up to 4 or 8 pumps, depending on the product variant
• up to 4 or 8 chillers, depending on the product variant
• up to 26 air-handling zones
• 1 bypass valve
• up to 3 temperature sensors
• 1 flow sensor.
When installing the differential pressure sensors for the air-handling
zones, we recommend that you install them in the most critical
zones, for example those installed farthest from the chillers.

4.3 Electrical connection
The electrical installation must be carried out by an authorised
person in accordance with local regulations and the relevant wiring
diagram. Before connecting your devices to the main cabinet and
the subcabinets, check that the following requirements are met:

‐Make sure that the power supply cannot be switched
on accidentally.
1. The electrical installation must comply with enclosure class
IP54 or UL type 3R.
2. The supply voltage and frequency must correspond to the
values stated on the nameplate.
3. The wire cross-section must correspond to the specifications in
the wiring diagram.
4. The type of control and/or feedback signal of connected
devices must correspond to the controller version. The signals
are described in the following table.

4.3.1 Connecting the main cabinet
The following devices must be connected according to the wiring
diagram delivered with the cabinet:
• power supply
• VFD
• differential-pressure sensors over pumps, chillers and the two
first air-handling zones
• chiller on/off signals from chiller controller, BMS or isolating
valve.
Optional
• Bypass valve
• temperature sensors
• flow sensor
• Hands / off / auto (HOA) switches for system
• Hands / off / auto (HOA) switches for pumps.
If there is only one air-handling zone in your system, you can
connect a redundant differential-pressure sensor for the zone.
Connect the redundant sensor to the terminal for the sensor of the
second air-handling zone.
4.3.2 Connecting subcabinets
If you have ordered a subcabinet, the following devices must be
connected according to the wiring diagram delivered with the
subcabinet:
• power supply
• EtherCAT cable to main cabinet
• EtherCAT cable to the next subcabinet, if any
• differential pressure sensors from air-handling zones.
5. Commissioning the product
5.1 Setting the product
5.1.1 Setting the pump bank
The controller must be unlocked.
1. Go to Pump bank > Pump bank settings.
2. Set the following parameters:
a. Enable pump changeover: Enable if you want the controller
to automatically change the operating pump after a defined
time.
b. Time of day for changeover: Enter the time for pump
changeover (1-24).
c. Enable maximum number of running pumps: Enable if
you do not want more than the specified maximum number
of pumps to operate at the same time.
d. Maximum number of running pumps: Enter the maximum
number of pumps to operate at a given time.
e. Enable minimum number of running pumps: Enable if
you want a minimum number of pumps to operate at the
same time when the controller is on.
f. Minimum number of running pumps: Enter the minimum
number of pumps to always operate.
g. Minimum time between start and stop: Enter the minimum
time in seconds for a pump to stop after having started.
h. Ramp up / ramp down time: Enter the time for the pump
ramp up, that is the time for the pump to accelerate to its
operating speed, and ramp down, that is the time for the
pump to decelerate to its stop speed.
i. Number of pumps: Enter the number of pumps in your
system.
j. Enable terminal alarm: Enable if you want the controller to
give alarms related to the pump terminal.
k. Enable warning on single pump failure: Enable if you
want the controller to give a warning when one pump fails.
l. Enable alarm on all pump failure: Enable if you want the
controller to give a warning when all pumps fail.
3. Go to Pump bank > Cascade operation.
4. Set the following parameters:
a. Cut-in speed: Enter the speed at which a new pump is to be
cut in.
b. Cut-out speed: Enter the speed at which a pump is to be cut
out.
The cut-in and cut-out speed of a pump can be different
depending on the number of pumps running.

5.1.1.1 Setting the pumps
1. Go to Pump bank > Pump bank status
2. Select the pump you want to set.

3. Go to Settings
4. Set the following parameters:
a. Enable: Enable if you want the pump to be part of the
system. If you do not enable, the pump is ignored.
b. Name: You can give the pump a unique name, for example
"Pump 1".
c. Maximum power: Enter the pump maximum power in the
unit selected under Menu > Settings.
d. Start speed: Enter the speed at which the pump is to be
started.
e. Stop speed: Enter the speed at which the pump is to be
stopped.
f. Enable VFD alarm: Enable if you want the controller to
register alarms related to the VFD and report them in the
alarm log.

5.1.2 Setting the chiller bank
The controller must be unlocked.
1. Go to Chiller bank > Chiller bank settings.
2. Number of chillers: Enter the number of chillers in your
application.

1. Go to Chiller bank > Chiller bank status.
2. Select the chiller you want to set.
3. Go to Settings.
4. Set the following parameters:
a. Enable: Enable if you want the chiller to be part of the
system. If you do not enable, the chiller is ignored.
b. Name: Give the chiller a unique name.
c. Minimum differential pressure: Enter the minimum
differential pressure that the chiller can be subjected to
according to the chiller manufacturer's specifications.
d. Maximum differential pressure: Enter the maximum
differential pressure that the chiller can be subjected to
according to the chiller manufacturer's specifications.

5.1.3 Setting the zone bank
The controller must be unlocked.
1. Go to Zone bank > Zone bank settings.
2. Set the following parameters:
a. Number of zones: Set the number of zones in your
application.
a. Minimum focus time: Enter the minimum time that the zone
in focus should stay in focus*1, regardless of the demand
change from the other zones.
The shorter the time is, the more frequently the pumps will
start and stop.
b. Enable warning on single zone failure: Enable if you want
the controller to give a warning when a zone sensor fails.
a. Enable alarm on bypass valve failure: Enable if you want
the controller to give an alarm when the bypass valve fails.
*1 The zone in focus is the zone in operation with the greatest
deviation between its setpoint and its differential pressure
value read by the sensor

5.1.3.1 Setting the zones
1. Go to Zone bank > Zone bank status.
2. Select the zone you want to set.
3. Go to Settings.
4. Set the following parameters:
a. Name: Give the zone a unique name, for example "first
floor".
b. Setpoint: Enter the differential pressure required by the
zone. It is the reference for the controller.
c. Active pressure limit: Enter the differential pressure at
which the controller should start taking the zone into
account.
d. Inactive pressure limit: Enter the differential pressure at
which the controller should stop taking the zone into account.

5.1.4 Setting the bypass valve
The controller must be unlocked.
1. Go to Zone bank > Zone-bank input-output settings.
2. Set the following parameters:
a. Gain factor: Enter the gain factor for the valve. The higher
the gain factor is, the faster the bypass valve reacts.
b. Gamma: Enter the gamma factor of the valve. This value
can be found in the instructions for the valve.
For linear types of valve, gamma is zero.
c. Deadband: Enter the deviation between the setpoint and the
measured differential pressure across the zones within which
the bypass valve must not react. Enter the value in the
pressure unit selected under Menu > Settings.
We recommend a deadband of 10 % of the maximum
setpoint required by your zones.
d. Enable position feedback: Enable if there is a position
feedback connected to the controller.
e. Enable terminal alarm: Enable if you want the controller to
give an alarm when the bypass valve fails.

5.1.5 Setting the flow sensor
The controller must be unlocked.
In this task you will set the flow sensor installed at the inlet of the
chiller bank.
1. Go to Pump bank > Pump-bank input-output settings.
2. Make sure the flow sensor is enabled.
3. Flow sensor range: enter the maximum flow that the sensor
can measure.

5.1.6 Setting the pump bank sensors
5.1.6.1 Setting the pressure sensor for the pump bank
The controller must be unlocked.
This task is about setting the differential pressure sensor installed
over the pump bank.
1. Go to Pump bank > Pump-bank input-output settings.
2. Make sure that the differential pressure sensor is enabled.
3. Differential pressure sensor range, enter the maximum
pressure that the sensor can measure.

5.1.6.2 Setting the temperature sensor for the pump bank
The controller must be unlocked.
This task is about setting the temperature sensor installed at the
pump bank outlet (T1).
1. Go to Pump bank > Pump-bank input-output settings.
2. Make sure the temperature sensor is enabled.
3. Enter the parameters for the temperature sensor:
a. Temperature sensor range: Enter the maximum
temperature that the sensor can measure.
b. Temperature sensor offset: Set the offset, if any.
The offset is zero by default.

5.1.7 Setting the chillers sensors
5.1.7.1 Setting the pressure sensors for the chillers
The controller must be unlocked.
This task is about setting the differential pressure sensor installed
over a chiller.
1. Go to Chiller bank > Chiller bank status.
2. Select the chiller where the sensor is located.
3. Go to Input-output settings.
4. Differential pressure sensor range: Enter the maximum
pressure that the sensor can measure.

5.1.7.2 Setting the temperature sensor for the chiller bank
The controller must be unlocked.
This task is about setting the temperature sensor installed at the
chiller bank outlet (T2).
1. Go to Chiller bank > Chiller-bank input-output settings.
2. Make sure the temperature sensor is enabled.
3. Enter the parameters for the temperature sensor:
a. Temperature sensor range : Enter the maximum
temperature that the sensor can measure.
b. Temperature sensor offset: Set the offset, if any.
The offset is 0 by default.

5.1.8.1 Setting the pressure sensors for the zones
The controller must be unlocked.
This task is about setting the differential pressure sensor installed
over each zone.
1. Go to Zone bank > Zone bank status.
2. Select the zone where the sensor is located.
3. Go to Input-output settings.
4. Differential pressure sensor range: Enter the maximum
pressure that the sensor can measure.

5.1.8.2 Setting the temperature sensor for the zone bank
The controller must be unlocked.
This task is about setting the temperature sensor installed at the
bypass valve outlet (T3).
1. Go to Zone bank > Zone-bank input-output settings.
2. Make sure the temperature sensor is enabled.
3. Enter the parameters for the temperature sensor:
a. Temperature sensor range: Enter the maximum
temperature that the sensor can measure.
b. Temperature sensor offset: Set the offset, if any.
The offset is zero by default.

5.1.9 Tuning the pump controller
The bypass valve controller must be tuned in order to have the
most suitable reaction time for your system.
1. Go to Menu > Tuning.
2. Select the tuning method:
•Manual tuning
•Auto tuning
3. If you have selected Manual tuning, enter the Proportional
gain (Kp) and Integral time (Ti).
If you want a faster reaction, increase the gain and reduce the
integral time. If you want a slower reaction, reduce the gain and
increase the integral time.
4. If you have selected Auto tuning, enter the percentage of the
maximum speed for the pump bank that the controller should
use to start the auto tuning.
We recommend to start with 25 % of the maximum speed.

5.1.10 Tuning the bypass valve controller
The controller must be tuned in order to have the most suitable
reaction time for your system. You can either tune the controller
manually by choosing the gain (Kp) and integral time (Ti) yourself or
let the controller determine these values automatically, based on
the configuration of your system.

1. Go to Menu > Tuning > Bypass valve gains.
2. Enter the Gain and Integral time.
If you want a faster reaction, increase the gain and reduce the
integral time. If you want a slower reaction, reduce the gain and
increase the integral time.
5.2 Testing the product
5.2.1 Testing the connections
All chillers, pumps and air-handling zones must be switched off.
All pump selector switches on the main cabinet must be set to Off.
The system selector switch must be set to Manual/Local.
You can use the indicator light on the terminal to test that a device
has been connected properly to it.
1. Digital inputs: Switch each device on and off, one at a time,
and use the indicator light on the terminal to check that the
device has been properly connected to it.
The indicator light is lit when the connected device is turned on.
As you must not start the pumps at this point, you cannot check
the analog signal from the VFD. You can do this when you start
the pumps for the first time.
2. Analog inputs: Use the indicator light on the terminal to check
that the feedback from each analog device is rational.
The indicator light indicates whether the signal is within or out
of range.

5.2.2 Testing the bypass valve
The controller must be unlocked.
1. Set the operating mode of the bypass valve to manual:
a. Go to Zone bank > Zone bank status.
b. Set the valve operating mode to Manual.
c. Set the position of the bypass valve by dragging the pointer
on the scale.
The value indicated on the scale is in percentage of the
maximum opening.
2. Check that the bypass valve changes its position according to
the setting. You may have to remove the cover of the bypass
valve.
3. Bypass valves with position feedback enabled: Check the
feedback by checking that the actual opening value shown on
the scale corresponds to the position previously set.
5.2.3 Testing the pumps
1. If there is a bypass valve in the system, set its opening to 100
% to make sure that the water can circulate in the system.
2. Set all pump selector switches to Off
3. Open the isolating valve of one chiller. Do not start the chillers.
The controller prevents the pumps from starting if the isolating
valves of all chillers are closed.
4. Set the first pump selector switch to Manual.
5. Set the pump speed to approximately 20% of the maximum
speed:
a. Go to Pump bank > Pump bank status.
b. Select the pump.
c. Set the speed on the scale.
The speed indicated on the scale is in percentage of the
maximum speed.
6. Check that the first pump starts and runs at the selected speed.
Depending on the product, you can read the pump speed in
different ways.

7. Go to Pump bank status and check that the measured speed
displayed on the pump icon is correct.
8. Set the pump selector switch to Off to switch off the pump.
9. Follow steps 4 to 8 to test the other pumps, one at a time.
Make sure to set each pump selector switch to Off after testing
the pump and before testing the next one.

5.2.4 Testing the pump cascade
1. Check that the operating mode of each pump is set to Auto.
2. Open the isolating valve of one chiller. Do not start the chiller.
Check that at least one pump is starting.
3. Open the other isolating valves one at a time and check that
the pump bank reacts normally. Pumps must cut in and/or
increase in speed.

5.2.5 Testing the overall system
The pump cascade must have been tested and the pump operating
mode must be set to Auto.
1. Open some of the isolating valves of the chillers, for example
half of them. Do not start the chillers.
2. Set the operating mode of the bypass valve to Auto:
a. Go to Zone bank > Zone bank status.
b. Set the operating mode to Auto.
3. Change the cooling load, for example by turning on and off
some air-handling zones or fan coils. Check that the system
reacts correctly:
a. Check that the value of the sensors is rational.
b. Check that the pumps cut-in and cut-out according to the
demand.
c. Check that the bypass valve opens when necessary.
4. Turn on all air-handling zones.
5. Switch on the chillers one at a time and check that the system
reacts correctly.
The system is now ready to start.

6. Starting up the product
Before starting up the product, make sure that it has been
commissioned and tested by an authorised person.
Follow this procedure to start the controller in automatic mode:
1. Switch on the controller via the main switch on the front panel.
2. Check that the operating mode of each pump is set to Auto.
3. Check that the pump bank operating mode is set to Auto.
4. Check that the system operating mode is set to Auto/Remote.
5. If the controller is controlling a bypass valve, check that the
operating mode of the valve is set to Auto.
6. Switch on the pumps.
7. Switch on all air-handling zones.
8. Switch on the chillers one at a time.

7.1.4 Alarms
Some devices of the system can send a warning or alarm signal,
depending on the degree of the issue. It will be visible on the
display. The detailed description of the alarm or warning can be
found in the alarm log. Go to Menu > Alarm log.

Warning means that there is a problem, but the device is still
running. Alarm means that there is a critical problem and the
device has stopped working.
Alarms and warnings can be both on device and bank level. A bank
is in alarm mode if all the devices of the bank are in alarm mode or
if the remaining functioning devices cannot fulfil the demand from
the system.

7.2 The selector switches

7.3 Product description
The controller is primarily designed to optimise pump operation in
variable-primary-flow systems, as part of air conditioning systems. It
controls speed-controlled pumps and can also control a bypass
valve placed between the flow pipe and the return pipe of the air-
handling zones.
According to the demand from the air-handling zones, the controller
operates the pumps in the most efficient way. Additionally, when the
demand is too low, the controller can adjust the opening of the
bypass valve to ensure a minimum flow through the operating
chillers.
The controller supports the following:

• up to 4 or up to 8 speed-controlled pumps, depending on the
product variant
• up to 4 or up to 8 chillers, depending on the product variant
• up to 26 air-handling zones
• one bypass valve.
The main cabinet supports the connection to two differential
pressure sensors for air-handling zones. More sensors can be
connected via up to three subcabinets connected to the main
cabinet.
7.4 Supported products
The following devices are supported by the controller:
• Variable frequency drives with 0-10 V control signal and 4-20
mA feedback signal
7.5 Supported remote management systems
The product can be monitored and controlled by a remote
management system. The communication with the remote
management system is established via a LAN connection.
Supported remote management systems:
• Grundfos Remote Management. It requires a separate contract
with Grundfos. It can be established with a LAN connection or
a 3G/4G router.
• SCADA system via Modbus TCP, on request. It requires a
license.
• SCADA system with BACnet IP, on request. It requires a
license.
7.6 System control
The air-handling zones, chillers and isolating valves are controlled
by a building management system. The bypass valve, if any, can
either be controlled by the building management system or by the
controller. The controller controls the pumps and can control the
bypass valve, based on the feedback from the sensors and isolating
valves of the chillers.
The cooling load from the air-handling zones determines the
number of chillers in operation. According to the number of chillers
in operation, the controller adapts the pump operation to maintain a
differential flow across the chillers within the allowed range.
If the bypass valve is controlled by the controller, when the flow
demand from the zones is lower than the minimum flow rate
required across the chillers, the controller opens the bypass valve
and hence maintains a minimum flow through the chillers.

7.7 Pump cascade control
• The performance is adjusted to the demand through cutting
pumps in or out and through parallel control of the pumps in
operation.
• The controller maintains a constant pressure through
continuous adjustment of the speed of the pumps.
• Pump changeover is automatic and depends on load, operating
hours and fault detection.
• All operating pumps run at the same speed.
• The number of pumps in operation also depends on the energy
consumption of the pumps. If only one pump is required, two
pumps will run at a lower speed if this results in a lower energy
consumption.

When the speed of the operating pumps reaches the cut-in speed,
a new pump is cut in. The pump starts at its start speed and
accelerates until it reaches the speed of the operating pumps. This
is called ramp up.
When the speed of the operating pumps reaches the cut-out speed,
a pump is cut out. The pump decelerates until it reaches its stop
speed and stops. This is called ramp down.

7.8 Controller tuning
The time that the controller takes to react to changes in the system
consumption can be controlled to ensure that the pressure is stable
and corresponds to the setpoint. The reaction time is controlled by a
standard proportional-integral (PI) controller. It involves two
parameters that can be adjusted via the controller tuning function to
obtain a faster or slower reaction to changes of consumption, that is
the proportional gain (Kp) and the integral time (Ti).
To obtain a faster reaction, increase Kp and reduce Ti.
To obtain a slower reaction, reduce Kp and increase Ti.
7.9 Control of the bypass valve
7.9.1 Gain factor
The gain factor determines how quickly the bypass valve reacts to a
change in the differential pressure measured across the air-
handling zones. The higher the gain factor is, the faster the bypass
valve reacts. A high gain factor may, however, result in an unstable
system.
7.9.2 Deadband
When the differential pressure measured across the zones differs
from the setpoint, the controller adjusts the position of the bypass
valve in order for the measured pressure to reach the setpoint. In
order to prevent the bypass valve from opening and closing too
frequently, which could wear the valve, the controller does not
adjust the valve position within a certain deviation between the
setpoint and the measured value. This deviation is called
deadband.
Example: A system has three zone sensors with setpoints of 2, 3
and 4 bar. If the deadband has been set to 0.4 bar, the bypass
valve does not react when the measured value is between 3.6 and
4.4 bar.
The reference for the controller is the zone with the largest
difference between its setpoint and its actual value.
7.9.3 Gamma
There are two types of bypass valve: linear and equal percentage.
Linear valves open linearly from 0 to 100 %, whereas equal
percentage valves open exponentially. This exponential
characteristic, called gamma, can be different from valve to valve,
and the controller takes this into consideration when calculating the
valve position. Gamma can typically be found in the valve
specifications.

8. Control functions
8.1 Pump operating modes
The table below describes the pump operation depending on the
pump bank operating mode and the pump operating mode.

controller that can be activated via the system selector switch.

9. Operating the product
9.1 Navigating the display
• In the dashboard, press the bank icon to enter the bank menu.
• Under each bank menu, press the device icon to enter the
device menu.
• Use the right and left arrows to switch between the submenus,
such as status, settings, etc.
9.2 Operating the controller remotely
1. Make sure that the system selector switch is in position Auto/
Remote.
2. Go to Menu > Settings > Communication channel.
3. Enable the communication channel, which you want to use to
operate the controller remotely.
When remote access is enabled and it is not possible to start nor
stop the controller nor change the settings from the display.

9.3 Operating the controller manually
It is possible to switch the controller to manual mode in order to
operate the pump bank and the valve, if any, manually from the
display, regardless of the system data or Building Management
System data collected by the controller. This can be useful during
fault finding and service operation.
• Set the system selector switch to Manual/Local.
The communication with the remote management system, if any, is
now disabled and the pump bank starts operating in manual mode.
By default, the pump bank starts at the manual speed that was set
the last time the pump bank was operated manually. The first time
that the pump bank starts in manual mode, the speed is zero.

9.4 Setting the position of the bypass valve manually
1. Go to Zone bank > Zone bank status.
2. Set the operating mode of the valve to Manual.
The valve opening is set to the value that was set the last time
the valve was operated manually.
3. Set the opening of the valve by dragging the pointer on the
scale.
The value indicated on the scale is in percentage of the
maximum opening.

9.5 Operating the pump bank manually
The pumps that are in automatic mode can be operated together at
a manually defined speed.
1. Set the system selector switch to Manual/Local.
2. Go to Pump bank > Pump bank status.
3. Set the speed by dragging the pointer on the scale.
The speed indicated on the scale is in percentage of the
maximum speed.
All the pumps that are in automatic mode operate at the same
speed. By default, the start speed is the manual speed that was last
set in manual mode. The pumps that are not in automatic mode
operate independently.

9.7 Clearing alarms
Before clearing an alarm or a warning, the root cause must be
identified and corrected.
1. Go to Menu > Alarm log.
2. Press the arrow next to the alarm or warning.
3. When the display prompts Clear alarm?, press Yes.
If the problem still occurs, the alarm will reappear in the alarm log.

9.8 Enabling data logging
A USB stick must be inserted in the USB port of the controller, as
the data will be logged onto it.
The controller must be unlocked.
1. Go to Menu > Data log.
2. Enable data logging.
3. Enter the number of samples to be logged per hour, maximum
360.
9.9 Selecting units
1. Go to Menu > Settings.
2. Select your unit preference under Regional settings.
9.10 Setting the time
1. Go to Menu > Settings > General settings.
2. Enter the hours and minutes under Time.
9.11 Unlocking the controller
You can unlock the controller to access additional functions. To
unlock the controller, you must login with a password. There are two
types of user access and each has a unique password:
• Operator: full access to settings for each bank
• Service: full access to settings for each bank, access to the
assist menu and general settings menu.
1. Go to Unlock.
2. Enter the password.
3. Press Enter.
The controller is now unlocked. The controller will automatically be
locked again after 20 minutes.

9.13 Adding a new component to the system
9.13.1 Adding a subcabinet to connect more zones to the
controller
In order to connect more zones to your system, you may need to
connect an additional subcabinet to the main cabinet. This
operation must be carried out by a person authorised by Grundfos.
1. Contact your local Grundfos sales company to order a new
subcabinet.
2. Connect an EtherCAT cable from the free ethernet port of the
EK1100 bus coupler to one of the ethernet ports of the
subcabinet.
3. Connect the zone sensors to the terminals of the subcabinet
according to the wiring diagram delivered with the product.
The maximum cable length between cabinets is 328 ft (100 m).
4. Go to Zone bank > Zone bank settings.
5. Update the number of zones.

9.13.2 Adding a new data communication system
This operation must be carried out by a person authorised by
Grundfos.
• Contact your local Grundfos sales company in order to add a
new communication system.
10. Servicing the product
10.1 Maintaining the product
The controller must be unlocked.
In order to ensure that the system is operating efficiently and
prevent any breakdowns, the following actions must be taken:
1. Check regularly that all selector switches on the front panel of
the cabinet are operational. Test all switch positions.
2. Replace the controller micro SD card after 10 years.
3. Check regularly the alarm list and fix the related problems:
a. Go to Menu > Alarm log.
b. Fix problems according to the alarm log, if any.
c. Reset each alarm and make sure that it has been removed
from the list.

The Control HVAC has now been taken out of operation and the
cabinet can be removed.

external power supply to the motor. It may be necessary to
remove the cover of the bypass valve.
If the motor is not working, replace the bypass valve.

12.4 No sensor signal
Conditions:
• The indicator light of the related sensor terminal indicates that
the signal is off.
Cause Remedy
The sensor is not
connected

Connect the sensor according to the wiring
diagram delivered with the sensor and the
product. Make sure that the sensor cable is
correctly connected to the terminal in the
cabinet.
Most differential-pressure sensors must be
connected to a 24 V supply, whereas most
