7Thunderstorms are a danger to all
electrical devices. Even if the de-
vice is switched off, it can be dam-
aged by a lightning strike to the
mains. Always remove the power
plug during a thunderstorm.

Do not use any cleaning agents
as they may damage the housing.
Clean the device with a clean dry
cloth.

When deciding where to put the
device, remember that furniture is
often coated with various types of
varnish and plastic. Many of these
contain chemicals which can cor-
rode the feet of the device, leav-
ing marks on the surface of the
furniture which can be difficult or
impossible to remove.

If malfunctions occur due to static
electricity charges or brief mains
voltage surges, reset the device.
To do this, pull out the power plug
and connect it again after a few
seconds.

Make sure the power plug is free-
ly accessible.

Note, prolonged listen-
ing at loud volumes
with the earphones can
damage your hearing.

This device is designed for the
playback of audio signals. Any
other use is expressly prohibited.

Protect the device and the CDs
from rain, moisture (dripping or
splashing water), sand and heat.

Make sure there is adequate ven-
tilation when positioning the de-
vice. There must be a free space
of at least 10 cm behind the de-
vice. Do not place objects on the
ventilation slots. Do not cover the
device with newspapers, table
cloths, curtains, etc.

Only use the device in a moderate
climate.

Do not place any vessels contain-
ing liquids (for example, vases)
on the device. Do not place any
naked flames such as candles on
the device. Do not insert objects
into the CD compartment of the
device.

Bringing the device in from the
cold can cause condensation on
the CD lens, which prevents it from
playing. Give the device time to
warm up.

The CD part contains self-lubricat-
ing bearings, which must not be
oiled or greased.

Never open the appliance un-

resulting from improper handling.

that the laser is designed in such a
way as to ensure that the maximum

other than those specified here are
employed, it may lead to dangerous

Invisible laser radiation is emitted
if the CD compartment is opened
and the safety locking mechanism is
shorted. Do not expose yourself to

2 Observe the polarity marked on
the base of the battery compart-
ment when inserting the batteries
(2 x 1.5 V LR 03/AM 4/AAA).
3 Insert the lid again and press it
down until it latches in place.

Do not expose the batteries to
extreme heat, caused for exam-
ple by direct sunlight, heaters or
fire.

Remove the batteries when they
are flat or when you know that
the device will not be used for a
long period of time. The manu-
facturer accepts no liability for
damage caused by leaking bat-
teries.

Batteries, including those which
do not contain heavy metal,
should not be disposed of with
household waste.
Always dispose of used batter-
ies in accordance with local
environmental regulations.
Mains operation
Check that the mains voltage on the
type plate (on the bottom of the ap-
pliance) corresponds to your local
mains supply. If this is not the case,
contact your specialist dealer.
1 Plug the power cord into the wall
socket (230V~, 50/60 Hz).
Caution:

The device is connected to the
mains with the power cord. Pull
out the power plug when you
want to completely disconnect
the device from the mains.

Unplug the mains plug to dis-
connect the device from the
mains. Make sure the power
plug is easily accessible during
operation and not hindered by
other objects.
Inserting the back-up
batteries
During mains operation, the back-up
batteries ensure that stored settings
are not lost in the case of a power
failure or when the device is briefly
disconnected from the mains.
1 Open the battery compartment
underneath the device by press-
ing the marked catch and remov-
ing the lid.

Setting the brightness
of the display
1 Adjust the brightness in three lev-
els with »DIMMER« on the back
of the device.
Tuning FM radio stations
You can store FM radio stations on
20 presets.
Automatic search for all
stations
1 Switch the device from standby
with »ON/OFF«.
2 Activate the station search by
pressing »PROG/MEMO« until
the display shows »AUtO«.
– The device searches for up to
20 radio stations and then saves
them.
Setting the time
1 Switch the device to standby with
»ON/OFF«.
2 Press »7/TIME« to activate the
setting.
– Display: the time flashes.
3 Set the time:
press and hold down » « or » «
– fast forward or fast reverse;
press » « or » « briefly – slow
forward or slow reverse.
4 Press »7/TIME« to confirm the
setting.
– Display: the current time.
Setting the alarm times
You can select two different alarm
times. Alarm time 1 wakes you with
the radio or CD and alarm time 2
wakes you with the signal tone.
1 Switch the device to standby with
»ON/OFF«.
2 To activate the setting, press
»ALARM 1« or »ALARM 2«.
– Display: the last alarm time set
flashes.
3 Set the alarm times:
press and hold down » « or » «
– fast forward or fast reverse;
press » « or » « briefly – slow

Storing stations to presets
1 Select the FM radio station with

2 Press »PROG/MEMO« to acti-
vate the memory function.
– Display: the preset number
»P 0I« and the frequency.
3 Select the desired station posi-
tion with »q« or » w«.
Note:

If stations are already stored on
the presets, they are overwritten
when new stations are stored.
4 Press »PROG/MEMO« to save
the station.
– Display: the frequency of the ra-
dio station.
5 To store more stations, repeat
steps 1 to 4 as described above.
Automatic station search
1 Switch the device from standby
with »ON/OFF«.
2 Activate the station search by
pressing » « or » « until the fre-
quency display changes to rapid
run-through forward or reverse.
– The search stops when a sta-
tion is found.
Manual station search
1 To move the frequency forward
in steps, briefly press » « or » «
several times.
– The frequency changes in
steps of 50 kHz.

For the best FM (UHF) reception it
is suffcient to align the wire antenna
accordingly.
Switching on
1 Switch the device from standby

Selecting stored stations
1 Select the station preset position
with »q« or » w«.
Stereo/mono reception
However, if the signal from the FM
stereo station is weak, you can im-
prove the sound quality by switching
to mono reception.
1 Press » MODE/STEREO/MONO «
to switch to mono; press »MODE/
STEREO/MONO « again to switch
to stereo.

You can also save the selected
setting (mono/stereo) on the
presets.

Always keep the CD compartment
closed to prevent dust from collect-
ing on the laser optics. Do not attach
adhesive labels to CDs. Keep the sur-
faces of CDs clean.
You can play standard 12 cm CDs
as well as 8 cm CDs on your device.
An adapter is not necessary.
Selecting the CD input
source
1 Switch the device from standby
with »ON/OFF«.
2 To select the CD input source, set
the »FM CD« button to »CD«.
– If there is no CD in the compart-
ment, »no« appears in the dis-
play after a short time.
– In MP3 and CD-DA mode when
a CD is already inserted: the
device reads the content of the
CD. The total number of folders
appears briefly in the display,
then the title.
Disc playback
1 Press »

CD/MP3 MODE _________________________________
The device is suitable for
music CDs displaying the
logo shown here (CD-DA)
and for CD-Rs and CD-
RWs with audio data or
MP3 and WMA formats.
In MP3 mode, the terms “album” and
“file” are very important. “Album”
corresponds to a folder on a PC,
“file” to a file on a PC or a CD-DA
track. An MP3 CD may not contain
more than 999 title/folders in total.
The device sorts the folders, or the
tracks in a folder, by name into
alpha betical order. If you wish to
order them differently, change the
name of the track or folder on your
PC – before burning the CD – and
put a number before the name.
When burning CD-R and CD-RWs
with audio files, various problems
may arise which could lead to prob-
lems with playback. This can be
caused by faulty software or hard-
ware settings or by the CD being
used. Should such problems arise,
contact the customer services of your
CD burner or software manufacturer
or look for relevant information, for
example on the Internet.
When you are making audio CDs,
observe all legal guidelines and en-
sure that the copyright of third par-
ties is not infringed.

Random function
Playing back titles in random order
1 During playback, press »MODE«
repeatedly until »RANDOM« ap-
pears constantly.
– Random playback starts auto-
matically.
– All titles on the disc are played
back once in random order.
2 To quit this function, press »MODE«.
– Display »RANDOM« disap-
pears.
CD/MP3 MODE _________________________________
Selecting folders and titles
(MP3 only)
1 During playback, select the folder
with » q« or » w«.
– Playback starts automatically
with the first title of the selected
folder.
2 In the current folder, select the title

er, you must then start playback

You can create a playlist of up to 20
titles for the current disc, in any or-
der you choose and then play them
back in that sequence. A title may be

– Display: »P0I« and »PROG« flash.
2 S elect the title with » « or » « and
confirm with »PROG/MEMO«.
– Display: »P02« and »PROG«
flash.
Note:

– The device wakes you up at
the set time with the signal tone
and with the input source last
selected (alarm duration is 60
minutes).
Interrupting the alarm
1 Press »SNOOZE« while the
alarm is sound.
– The alarm signal (radio station,
CD or signal) stops.
– The alarm signal goes on again
at nine-minute intervals (overall
alarm duration is 60 minutes).
Cancelling the alarm for
the day
1 Press »ON/OFF« while the alarm
sounds.
– The alarm signal (radio station,
CD or signal) stops.
– The alarm retains the set time for
the next day.

Sleep timer
The device has a sleep timer, which
switches it off at a preset time. The
switch off time can be set in a range
between 90, 60, 30 and 15 min-
utes.
Activating the sleep timer
1 Select the switch-off time by press-
ing »SLEEP« repeatedly.
– Display: »SLEEP« and, for ex-
ample »30«, then »SLEEP« con-
stantly.
– After the selected switch-off time
has elapsed, the device switch-
es off automatically.
Deactivating the sleep
timer
1 Deactivate the sleep timer prema-
turely with »ON/OFF«.
Activating and deactivat-
ing the alarm
1 In standby mode, deactivate
the alarm by briefly pressing
»ALARM 1« or »ALARM 2«.
– Display: »ALARM 1« or
»ALARM 2« disappears.
– The set alarm time is saved.
2 In standby mode, activate the alarm
by briefly pressing »ALARM 1« or
»ALARM 2«.

Cleaning the CD unit
If the device is unable to scan CDs
perfectly, use a standard, com-
mercially available cleaning CD to
clean the laser optics. Other clean-
ing methods may damage the laser
optics.
Use a lint-free cloth for cleaning the
CD and always wipe it from the
inside out in a straight line. Do not
use cleaning agents for conventional
vinyl discs, nor any solvents or abra-
sive cleaners.
Environmental note
This product has been
made from high-quality
parts and materials
which can be re-used
and recycled.
Therefore, do not throw the product
away with normal household waste
at the end of its service life. Take it to
a collection point for recycling elec-
trical and electronic devices. This is
indicated by this symbol on the prod-
uct, in the operating manual and on
the packaging.
