1 Wichtige Informationen
• Montage, Installation und Service
sind von autorisierten Elektrofach-
kräften durchzuführen.
• Betriebsspannung der Anlage vor
Beginn von Montage- oder Service-
arbeiten abschalten oder Netzstecker
der Kopfstation ziehen.
• Führen Sie Installations- und Servicear-
beiten nicht bei Gewittern durch.
• Stellen Sie eine ausreichende Belüftung
des Gerätes sicher.
• Vermeiden Sie Kurzschlüsse!
• Die SAT-Empfangsanlage muss über
die Potenzialausgleichsschiene gemäß
DIN EN 50083-1 / EN 60728-11 und
VDE 0855 geerdet sein.
Beachten Sie für weitergehende Infor-
mationen die Montageanleitung der
verwendeten Kopfstation.
1 Important information
• Assembly, installation and servic-
ing are to carry out by authorised
electricians.
• Switch off the operating voltage of
the system before beginning with as-
sembly or service work or pull out the
mains plug.
• Do not perform installation and ser-
vice work during thunderstorms.
• Make sure the device is adequately
ventilated.
• Avoid short circuits!
• Earth the SAT receiving system using
the equipotential bonding rail in ac-
cordance with DIN EN 50083-1 /
EN 60728-11 and VDE 0855.

2 Kurzbeschreibung
Die Cassette konvertiert zwei COFDM -
modulierte Signale in zwei QAM-
modulierte Datenströme. Sie hat zwei
terrestrische Eingänge für die Kanalzü-
ge “A” und “B”, zwei Durchschleifaus-
gänge und einen HF-Ausgang. Das
integrierte TPS-Modul ermöglicht es,
Datenraten zu erhöhen, Programme
bzw. Services aus den Transportströ-
men zu löschen und die Operator-ID zu
beeinflussen.
Die Cassette ist für den Betrieb in den
Kopfstationen STC 316, STC 1200,
STR 19-8 und PST 19-1 vorgesehen.
3 Cassette montieren
– Beachten Sie, dass die Kopfstation
vibrationsfrei montiert sein muss.
Vermeiden Sie z.B. die Montage
der Kopfstation an einem Aufzug-
schacht oder ähnlich vibrierenden
Wand- oder Bodenkonstruktionen.
– Vor Montage oder Wechsel einer
Cassette Netzstecker der Kopfstation
aus der Netzsteckdose ziehen.
• Befestigungsschrauben 1eines un-
bestückten Steckplatzes aus dem
Halterahmen der Kopfstation heraus-
drehen.
•Cassette in diesen Steckplatz einset-
zen und in das Gehäuse schieben.
• Cassette ausrichten und mit leichtem
Druck mit der Platine und der HF-Sam-
melschiene kontaktieren.
• Cassette mit den Schrauben 1be-
festigen.
2 Brief description
The cassette converts two COFDM
modulated signals into two QAM-
modulated data flows. It has two ter-
restrial inputs for the channel strips
“A” and “B”, two loop-through outputs
and one HF output. The integrated TPS
module allows to increase data rates,
to delete stations or services out of
the data streams and to influence the
operator-ID.
The cassette is intended for use in the
STC 316, STC 1200, STR 19-8 and
PST 19-1 head-end stations.
3 Installing the cassette
– Ensure the head-end station is
mounted so it will not be able to vi-
brate. Avoid, for example, mounting
the head-end station onto a lift shaft
or any other wall or floor construc-
tion that vibrates in a similar way.
– Before installing or changing a cas-
sette unplug the power cable from the
mains power socket.
• Remove the fastening screws 1of
an unoccupied slot from the bracket
of the head-end station.
• Insert the cassette in this slot and push
it into the housing.
• Align the cassette and apply slight
pressure to connect it to the connec-
tions of the board and the HF bus bar.
• Fasten the cassette with the screws 1.

4 EMV-Vorschriften
– Um die gültigen EMV-Vorschriften
einzuhalten, ist es erforderlich, die
von außen kommenden und die
nach außen führenden Verbindun-
gen der Kopfstation über F-Durchfüh-
rungen herzustellen.
– Die Schirmdämpfung der Anschluss-
leitungen muss den Anforderungen
der “Klasse A” entsprechen.
– Beachten Sie beim Einbau der Cassette
in eine Kopfstation STR 19-8, die in ei-
nem 19”-Schrank installiert ist, dass die
von außen kommenden und die nach
außen führenden Verbindungen beim
19”-Schrank über F-Durchführungen
herzustellen sind.
• Erforderliche Anzahl von
F-Durchführungen in die
vorgesehenen Durchbrü-
che in der Kopfstation
bzw. im 19”-Schrank ein-
setzen. Die F-Durchfüh-
rungen sind handelsüblich und nicht
im Lieferumfang enthalten.

4 EMC regulations
– To comply with the current EMC
regulations, it is necessary to con-
nect the lines leading in and out of
the head-end station (e.g. cinch,
HF) using F terminals.
– The attenuation of shielding of the
connection lines must meet the re-
quirements for “Class A”.
– When mounting the cassette in a
STR 19-8 head-end station which is
installed in a 19” cabinet, make sure
that the connections leading in and
out at the 19” cabinet are made using
F terminals.
• Insert the required num-
ber of standard F termi-
nals in the openings
provided (knock-outs) in
the head-end station or
the 19” cabinet.
The F terminals are standard and are
not included in the scope of delivery.

Tighten the nuts of the F terminals
until the teeth on the lock washers
put under the nuts have penetrated
the exterior coating and a good con-
nection is made between the housing /
19” cabinet and F terminal.
5 Connecting the cassette
• Connect the HF input cables to the HF
input sockets
3(channel strip “A”)
and 1(channel strip “B”).
The sockets 2 (HF signal of input 1 )
and 4 (HF signal of input 3 ) are
loop-through outputs.
• Connect the head-end station to the
mains.
6 Updating the software
The operating software of the cassette
can be updated via the 9-Pin D-SUB
socket 5using a PC or notebook and
the software “BE-Flash”.
You can find the current operating soft-
ware on the website “www.gss.de”.
Ziehen Sie die Muttern der F-Durch-
führungen so fest an, dass sich die un-
tergelegten Zahnscheiben durch die
Oberflächenbeschichtung drücken
und einen sicheren Kontakt zwischen Ge-
häuse / 19”-Schrank und F-Durchführung
gewährleisten.
5 Cassette anschließen
• HF-Eingangskabel mit den Eingangs-
buchsen 3 (Kanalzug “ A ”) und 1
(Kanalzug “ B ”) verbinden.
Die Buchsen 2 (HF-Signal von Ein-
gang 1 ) und 4 (HF-Signal von Ein-
gang 3 ) sind Durchschleifausgänge.
• Kopfstation mit Netzspannung versor-
gen.
6 Software aktualisieren
Über die 9-polige D-SUB-Buchse 5 kann
mittels eines PC oder Notebooks und der
Software “BE-Flash” die Betriebssoftware
der Cassette aktualisiert werden.
Die aktuelle Betriebssoftware finden Sie
auf der Website “www.gss.de”.

8 Hinweise zur Programmierung

• Gegebenenfalls Modulator einschalten.
9 Hinweise zur Pegeleinstellung
• Ausgangspegel (Menü ”OUTPUT Le-
vel”) der Kanalzüge “A” und “B” an-
gleichen, wenn der Pegelunterschied
≥1 dB beträgt.
• Um Störungen innerhalb der Kopfsta-
tion und der Kabelanlage zu vermei-
den, müssen Sie den Ausgangspegel

8 Notes on programming
• Connect the test receiver to the HF out-
put or the test output of the head-end
station.
• Set the output channel of the cassette
and adjust the TV test receiver to this
channel.
• Switch on the modulator if necessary.
9 Notes on level setting
• Balance the output levels of the chan-
nel strips “A” and “B” if the difference
in level is ≥1 dB ( ”OUTPUT Level”
menu).
• In order to prevent interference within
the head-end station and the cable
system, the output level of the cassette

must be lowered by 10 dB compared
to analogue cassettes at 64 QAM,
and by 4 dB at 256 QAM.

11 Abschließende Arbeiten
Um die gültigen EMV-Vorschriften
einzuhalten, ist es erforderlich nach
der Montage der Kopfstation, der
Nachrüstung von Zubehör und dem Be-
stücken der Cassetten, alle Kabel-Ver-
schraubungen, F-Durchführungen und
Abdeckungen sorgfältig zu befestigen.
• Ausgangspegel der anderen Casset-
ten messen und je nach verwende-
ter Kopfstation mit den zugehörigen
Pegelstellern bzw. der Software den
Ausgangspegel auf einen einheitli-
chen Wert einstellen.
11 Final proce dures
After installing the head-end station,
upgrading accessories or installing
cassettes, it is necessary to tighten
all cable connections, F terminals and
cover screws in order to maintain com-
pliance with current EMC regulations.
• Measure the output levels of the other
cassettes and tune them to a uniform
output level using the appropriate lev-
el controls or software dependent on
the head-end station used.
