2 Safet Precautions
2.1 Safet Precautions – Risk of Injur
When working on the vehi le, there is a risk of injury through
rotating parts or rolling of the vehi le. Therefore observe the
following:
• Prote t vehi le against rolling away.
• Additionally pla e gear sele tor lever of AT vehi les to
park position.
• Dea tivate the start/stop system to avoid an inadvertent
engine start.
• Conne t the devi e to the vehi le only when engine is shut
down.
• Do not rea h into rotating omponents when engine is
running.
• Do not run ables near rotating parts.
• Che k the high-voltage parts for damage.

2.2 Safet Precautions for the mega macs 42 SE
To prevent in orre t handling and onsequent injuries to the
user or damage to the devi e, observe the following:
• Only onne t original mains supply to the power ord
(supply voltage 12 V).
• Prote t the LC display and the devi e from prolonged
exposure to solar radiation.
• Prote t the devi e and the onne ting able from hot
omponents.
• Prote t the devi e and the onne ting ables from
rotating parts.
• Regularly he k the onne ting ables/a essory parts for
damage (destru tion of the devi e due to short ir uit).
• Conne t the devi e ex lusively a ording to user manual.
• Keep the devi e away from fluids su h as water, oil or
gasoline. The mega ma s 42 SE is not waterproof.
• Prote t the devi e from strong impa ts and do not drop it.
• Do not open the devi e on your own. Only te hni ians
authorized by Hella Gutmann are allowed to open the
devi e. Warranty and guarantee will be rendered void at
any ase of unauthorized tampering of the devi e or if the
prote tive seal is damaged.
• Immediately onta t Hella Gutmann or a Hella Gutmann
trading partner in ase of any malfun tions.

Intended Use
3.1.1 Checking deliver contents
Please he k the delivery ontents upon re eiving your devi e so that
omplaints an be issued immediately regarding any potential damage.
Pro eed as follows to he k the delivery ontents:
1. Open the pa kage supplied and he k for ompleteness based on the
delivery slip.
Should you identify any damage to the pa kage, then open the pa kage
in the presen e of the delivery servi e and he k the devi e for hidden
damage. Any transport damage to the pa kage supplied and damage
to the devi e shall be registered in a damage report by the delivery
servi e.
2. Take the devi e out of the pa kaging.

Never put the devi e into operation if you suspe t that
there are loose parts in or on it. Please onta t the
Hella Gutmann repair servi e or a Hella Gutmann trading

ensure that there are no loose parts inside.
3.2 Intended Use
The mega ma s 42 SE is a mobile diagnosti devi e for dete ting and
re tifying faults in automotive ele troni systems.
It uses a diagnosti interfa e to establish a onne tion to the automotive
ele troni s and to provide a ess to des riptions of the vehi le system. A
lot of this data is transferred to the devi e dire tly from the Hella Gutmann
diagnosti database via online onne tion. Therefore, the devi e must be
permanently online.

Using the Bluetooth Fun tion
The devi e is not suitable for repairing ele tri al ma hines and tools or
home ele tri s. Diagnosti devi es from other manufa turers will not be
supported.
If the devi e is used in a way not authorized by Hella Gutmann, the safety
of the devi e may be influen ed.
3.3 Using the Bluetooth Function
The terms of use of the Bluetooth fun tion may be restri ted or prohibited
through law or orresponding legal regulations in ertain ountries.
Pay attention to the provisions in for e in the respe tive ountry before
using the Bluetooth fun tion.
3.4 Scope of Functions
The range of fun tions of the mega ma s 56 depends on the ountry, the
li enses a quired, and/or the optionally available hardware. This
do umentation may therefore des ribe fun tions that are not available on
the individual devi e. Missing fun tions an be enabled by a quiring a
orresponding li ense subje t to harge and/or additional hardware.

4 Installation of the Hella Gutmann Drivers Package
4.1 S stem Requirements of Hella Gutmann Drivers
• Mi rosoft Windows 7 or higher
• Windows administrator rights
4.2 Installation of the Hella Gutmann Drivers Package
To obtain all the data about the related vehi le provided by Hella Gutmann,
the devi e requires a permanent online onne tion and the installed driver
pa kage Hella Gutmann Drivers. To keep the onne tion osts down, Hella
Gutmann re ommends a DSL onne tion and a flat rate.
1. Install the Hella Gutmann Drivers on the offi e or repair shop PC.
The driver pa kage Hella Gutmann Drivers program is on the supplied
HGS data arrier.
2. Conne t the devi e to a web- ompatible PC.

Charging the Battery
5 Putting Into Operation
This se tion gives a des ription of how to swit h on and off the devi e as
well as all the ne essary steps for the first use of the devi e.
5.1 Charging the Batter
Prior to initial start-up of the devi e, harge the battery for at least 8 to 10
h while the devi e is swit hed off.
Pro eed as follows to harge the battery:
1. Insert the voltage supply plug into the devi e's so ket.
2. Insert the power plug into the plug so ket.
The battery is harged.
5.2 Switching on the Device
NOT CE
At the first start-up of the devi e and after every software
update, you need to onfirm the general terms and onditions
(GTC) of Hella Gutmann Solutions GmbH. Otherwise, ertain
devi e fun tions will be unavailable.
To swit h on the devi e:
1. Swit h on the devi e with .
The general terms and onditions appear.
2. Read the general terms and onditions and onfirm them at the end of
the text.
An info window appears.
3. Confirm the info window with ENTER.
The main menu appears.
Now you an start working with the devi e.

the ompany data.
Pro eed as follows to enter the ompany data:
1. Sele t and onfirm >Name 1<.
2. Delete the entry with F1 where ne essary.
3. Cli k to open the virtual keypad.
4. Enter the ompany name.
5. Close the virtual keypad with ESC.
6. Confirm the input with ENTER.
The input is saved automati ally.
7. Repeat steps 2–6 to make more inputs.

5.4 License Release

need to onne t the devi e to the HGS server prior to the first
start-up.
Pro eed as follows to onne t the devi e with the HGS server:
1. Sele t Contracts under > Settings in the main menu.
2. Sele t >License<.
Data is downloaded. Pur hased li en es are displayed.
3. Swit h the devi e off and on again.
Now you an start working with the devi e.

6.1 Configuring the Bluetooth Adapter
Here you an onfigure the Bluetooth adapter.
The integrated Bluetooth module enables a wireless onne tion to a PC on
whi h the driver pa kage Hella Gutmann Drivers is installed.
6.1.1 Searching for the Bluetooth Adapter

If the devi e has already been delivered with a Bluetooth
adapter then both devi es are already assigned to ea h other
ex works.
Pro eed as follows to sear h for the Bluetooth adapter:
1. Insert the Bluetooth adapter into the USB port on the PC.
2. Sele t and onfirm Bluetooth under > Settings in the main menu.
3. Sele t and onfirm >Bluetooth adapter search<.

vehi le diagnosti s. The devi e provides assistan e to simplify the
sele tion, e.g. indi ating the installation position of the diagnosti port or
vehi le identifi ation through VIN.
