user protocols.Anyfalsedatageneratedinaircanbefiltratedautomatically(Whathasbeen

HAC-UMtransceiversprovide2portswiththreeconnections, ports:aUARTinterfaceof
TTLlevel,anon-standardRS-232 portand anon-standardRS-485 port,whichbothare
definedbyuser software (defineit justbypluggingoutand inoneshortcircuit device and
then power on).
Note:UM384 (i.e. 38400bps) iswithout anynon-standardRS-232/485port.

III. HowtouseHAC-UM Series
HAC-UMisamember ofHACserieslowpower dataradiomodules, whichprovidesRS-232,
RS-485 and UART/TTLlevelinterfaceportfordirectconnection withPC,RS485devices, SCM
and other UARTcomponents kind ofapplications. Theschematicdiagramis shown below:

1. Powersupply
HAC-UMworkwithsupplyvoltage+3.3~5.0 DC.Byusingbetterripplefactor,HAC-UM
transceiverscanalsoshare power supplywithother equipment.Ifpossible,a
voltage-stabilizingchipwith5Vvoltageismore recommendedastheonlypowersupplythan
Switchpower supply.Butifonlyswitchpower supplyavailable,thejambyswitchpulseto
thetransceiversshouldbeavoided. Inaddition, thereliablegroundingmustbeusedifthere is
other deviceinthesystemequipment.Incaseoffailing toconnectwiththeground, it can
formits own groundingbutmustbeabsolutelyseparatedfromthemunicipalelectricsupply.
Iflower power forlowerpower consumption needed, wecanspeciallydesigntolower the
power as+3V.
2. ConnectionDefinitionwithterminal
HAC-UMtransceiverssupplyone9-pinconnector(JP1),theirdefinitions and connection
methods with terminals are shown inTable1.

4. Setting ofchannel, interface and data format:
Before usingHAC-UM, theuser needs tomakesimpleconfiguration basedon itsownneeds to
determinethechannel, interface modeand dataformat.
There isonegroup of5-bit short-circuit jumper wire(JP2)on theupper rightcorner of
HAC-UM, definedasABCDErespectively.Assumingtheopencircuit ofjumper wire (without
shortcircuiter) ismode1and shortcircuit ofjumper wire (withshortcircuiter) ismode0, then
theconfiguration is as follows:
a. Channelconfiguration:
ABCjumper wiresofJP2provide8options, and theuser canchoosetouse0-7channels
throughABCjumperwires. Withinonesmall communication network, aslongasABCjumper
wire modeis same, there can bemutualcommunication.

b. Selectionofinterface mode:
HAC-UM provides 2serialports. COM1(Pin3 and Pin4 ofJP1)is fixed asUARTserialportof
TTLlevel; COM2 (Pin6 and Pin7 ofJP1)canchoosenon-standardRS232/485 interfacemode
through DofJP2:
D=1 (Unpluggingshortcircuiter) COM2 =RS-485
D=0 (Pluggingin shortcircuiter) COM2 =RS-232
Thefollowing attentionshouldbepaidforthetwo serialports providedby HAC-UM:
i. Forthedatareceivedfromtheair,whenHAC-UMtransmitsit totheterminal
equipmentthroughserialport,COM1 andCOM2 outputsimultaneously,i.e.iftheuser
connectsonedeviceatCOM1 and COM2 respectively,theybothcanreceivethedata
simultaneously.
ii. Forthedatatransmittedfromtheterminalequipmentand readytotransmit totheair,
HAC-UMcanonlyreceivethedatasentfromeither COM1 orCOM2 butnot
simultaneously.
Suggestion:Theusers arerecommended to useoneserialportofCOM1 orCOM2.
c. Paritymodeselection:
HAC-UMcansupportno-parityorevenparitymodesoftheserialcommunication UART,i.e.
8N1/8E1, which can bechosen byE ofJP2:
E=1 (Unpluggingshortcircuiter) Parity:8E1 (even parity)
E=0 (Pluggingin shortcircuiter) Parity:8N1 (no parity)
NOTE:Thecommunicationdataratecannotbesetbyuser,itisconfirmedwhen
placingordersand set beforedelivery.Theshort circuiterwill beeffectivebyre-powering
onifits methodofplugging inchanged.
5. Supportedprotocoland Transmitcapability

HAC-UMstandardtransceiversoffer transparentprotocoltosupportvarious applications and
protocolsofusers. Iftheuser needs todecreasehiscostoreasetheworkloadofterminalCPU,
wecanadd otherspecificfunctions basedon thetransparentprotocol,suchasaddressing,data
acquisition, command interpretation, etc.
6. Sleepfunctioninstruction:
Duetoreducingmore consumption, HAC-UMtransceiverssupportSleepfunction. Insleep
mode, thecurrentconsumption is less than 5µA.
Thedefault setofsleepfunction isusuallyclosedtoensure thereliabilityofpreventing
transceiversfromgetting inwrongsleepmode.Thesleepfunction canbeopenedbyHACafter
informed orbyuserviaprogrammingthemsoftware.
a. Howto usetheSleepfunction:
ThePin8 ‘SLP inJP1isthesignalofsleepcontrol.Inhighpower level,whenthetransceiver
staysinsleepmode,theconversion fromidlemodetosleepwill befinishedin1ms. TheSLP
signalcanconverttransceiver fromidletosleepmodein1msafter risingedge.IftheSleep
signalarriveswhenthetransceiver istransmittingdata,themodulewill enter sleepmodeafter
finishingtransmission. Fromsleep modeto idle, it takes thetransceiver 10ms after fallingedge.
Todisablethesleepfunction ofHAC-UM, theSLP(SLEEP)pinshouldbedefinitelyconnected
with 0 orground.
b.Attentions aboutuseofsleepfunction:
Whenthesleepfunction enabled, anysupplyglitches, suchasswitchdithering,fire strikingor
quickswitchingon and off,couldcausethetransceiver tobeswitchedtothewrongsleepmode.
After switching on, userscanavoidthiserrorbymakingacompulsiverestoration onceafterthe
CPUdelays 100ms. Butsuch acondition occurs seldom.

7. Theattentions ofdata transmission
a. Thedelay time (tc)ofconversionbetweentransmitting and receiving is less than1ms.

Duetoadataprocessingwill bemadeon user sdatabyHAC-UMtransceiver usingFEC
(ForwardErrorCorrection)orother correction algorithm,whenRxDofaHAC-UM
transceiver ‘Areceivesthedata,thentransmitsit,theotheronetransceiver ‘Bwill havea

d.Large-numberdatatransmission
Intheory,whentheinterface datarateisfaster thantheRFdatarate,HAC-UMtransceiverscan
send unlimited-longdatapackage,butanylongpackagesmore than120Bare notrecommended.
Thelengthofeachpackageshouldbebetween60~100B.Wealso recommend user toresentthe
wronginformation using AutomaticErrorRequestEquipment(ARQ).
Theanalyzing as below:
Whatiftheactualtransmission BER(Bit ErrorRate)is10-4,1packetwith1KBdata,whichis
about10-thousand bits, issent,theoretically,atleast1bit will bereceivedwrongly,thenthe1KB
information will never bereceived correctly.
Butifwepackagethedatainto10 packetswith100Bforeach, whenall 10 packetsare sent,there
will beonly1packetwrongaccordingtothisprobability.After that,resend thiswrongpacket
usingARQmode.Sobyresendingonemore packetand theefficiencyrateisreduced10%,all
datawill beabsolutelyreceived correctly.

Iftheuser has specialdemands on antennas, wecan designand produce forthemspecially.
IV. NetworkingApplicationofHAC-UM Series
Thecommunication channelofHAC-UMishalfduplex,whichismostsuitableforthe
communication modeofpointtomulti-point.Under thismode,onemaster station mustbe
set,and all oftherestare slavestations. Auniqueaddress isgiventoeachstation. The
coordination ofcommunication iscontrolledbymaster station thatusesdataframes
containingaddress codetotransmit dataorcommand. Slavestation willreceiveall ofthe
dataand command and compare thereceivedaddress codewithlocaladdress code.Ifthey
are different,thedatawill bedesertedwithoutanyresponse.Ifthoseaddress codesare the
same,it means thedataissenttothelocal.Slavestation will makedifferentresponses
accordingtothetransmitteddataorcommand andsend backthedataofresponse.All these
jobs mustbeperformedbyupperprotocol,and it isassuredthatthere isonlyone
transmitter-receiverinthestateoftransmission inthecommunication networkatanyinstant
momentso as to avoid thecross-interference.
HAC-UMcanalso beusedforpoint-to-pointcommunication witheasier operation. Forthe
programmingofserialport, all you haveto do is torememberthatits communication modeis
semi duplexwhilealwaysobservingthetimesequenceofcome-and-goforreceivingand
transmitting.
