TABLE OF CONTENT
HeartSine Technologies can provide you with a fully configurable
HeartSine samaritan® PAD system to allow you to comply with
your chosen Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) treatment protocol. Our
current devices can be configured to be compliant with the 2000 or
2005 version of the AHA/ERC guidelines on Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).
You should have been trained in the appropriate version of the
AHA/ERC guidelines and the use of your device configuration.

Technologies distributor for further information.

The HeartSine samaritan® PAD trainer has 8 training scenarios
to choose from. Scenarios 1 to 4 are based on AHA/ERC 2005
guidelines and scenarios 5 to 8 are based on AHA/ERC 2000
guidelines.
Listed opposite are the scenarios available and a brief outline of
how the training incident will unfold for those using the
HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer.

The Different Training Scenarios
The HeartSine samaritan® PAD trainer and Trainer Pad-
Pak have a warranty period of two years from the date of
purchase of the device.

Ensure that the trainer Pad-Pak is fully
charged (see Charging section of this
manual) . Place the HeartSine
samaritan® PAD Trainer and the
trainer Pad-Pak on a flat surface. Push
the trainer Pad-Pak into the opening of
the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer
of the and listen for a “click” sound to
ensure that it is properly inserted.
You may clean your HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer with a soft
cloth that has been dampened by one of the following:
Soapy Water.
IsopropylAlcohol (70% solution).
Do not immerse any part of the HeartSine samaritan®
PAD Trainer in water or any type of fluid. Contact with
fluids may seriously damage the device or cause fire
or shock hazard.
Do not clean the HeartSine samaritan® HeartSine
samaritan® PAD Trainer with abrasive materials or
solvents.
To change the scenario played, the language
spoken or the volume level of the HeartSine
samaritan® PAD Trainer follow the instructions on
the following pages.
Turn on the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer by pressing the
On/Off button. By default the Trainer will function in the last
scenario setting used.
Press the On/Off Button and listen to the voice prompts to ensure
that the unit is functioning.
Pressing the Pause Button when a scenario is playing will stop
the scenario. An LED will illuminate to show that the pause
function is active. Pressing the Pause Button again will cause the
same scenario to resume and the LED will go off.
If the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer has
insufficient charge, it will not function correctly. Plug
charger into the system to recharge the system. For
full instructions see the Charging section of this
manual. You may continue to operate the HeartSine
samaritan® PAD Trainer as it recharges.

Changing The Volume
1. Press and hold the Shock Button. At the same time press and
release the On/Off button. Keep the shock button pressed until
you hear “setup mode” .
2. Press the shock button to scroll through the scenarios available
(see Training Scenarios Available section). The system will
announce “Training Scenario” and then the number of the current
scenario.

1. Press and hold the Shock Button. At the same time press and
release the On/Off Button. Keep the Shock Button pressed until
you hear “setup mode”.
3. Within 10 seconds press the Shock Button again to change the
scenario. If the Shock Button is not pressed to change the
scenario then the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer will repeat
the previously selected scenario number several times and shut
down.
When the required scenario number is selected do not
press any other buttons. The scenario number will be
repeated a number of times, and the trainer will emit 3
short beeps and shut down. If the trainer is now
turned on it will play the selected scenario.
2. Press the Pause Button to change the volume level of the
device. The HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer will emit a beep
and you will hear a number (1 - 4) which is the currently selected
volume level.
3. Press the Pause Button again to change the volume level.
When the desired volume is selected do not
press any other buttons. The trainer will repeat the
number of the volume three times, then emit 3 short beeps
and shut down. The HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer
will now default to the selected volume.

Using the Trainer PADs
The Trainer Pads are located inside the Trainer Pad tray. Pull
the green tab (on the Trainer Pad tray lid) and remove.

2. Press the Pause Button to change the language. The trainer
will say “Call for medical assistance” in the languages
programmed in the device from our language library. For a list of
available languages contact HeartSine Technologies .
3. Press the Pause Button again to change the language. If the
pause button is not pressed to change the language within 10
seconds the HeartSine samaritan® PAD trainer will repeat the
message in the current language 3 times and shut down.
When the desired language is selected do not press any
buttons. The trainer will repeat the message three
times, emit 3 short beeps and shut down.
If the trainer is turned on after the above is carried out, it
will deliver voice prompts in the selected language.
1. Press and hold the Pause Button. At the same time press the
On/Off Button. Keep the Pause Button pressed until you hear
“Setup Mode”.

The Pads can then be peeled from their liner and placed on a
mannequin as indicated on the electrode.
The Trainer Pads are designed to be a single use component.
They can be replaced by disconnecting from the connector on
the Pad.
When replaced, the Trainer Pads can be returned to the Trainer
Pad Tray. Take care not to crush the Trainer Pads or cables
when re-inserting the Trainer Pad tray lid. Contact your local
HeartSine Technologies distributor for replacement Trainer Pads
when required.

When to recharge
2) Plug the charger into the mains electricity supply. Where
required, an adaptor will have been provided with your charger.
If necessary use the adaptor to plug the charger into your mains
supply.
3) Check that the red light on the
charger is on. This light indicates
that the Trainer Pad-Pak is
charging.
4) Leave the Trainer Pad-Pak to charge. To fully charge a
completely depleted Trainer Pad-Pak will take approximately
12 hours.
5) Remove the adaptor from the Trainer Pad-Pak. Unplug the
charger and store it away.
6) Turn on the trainer to ensure that the device is working. The
HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer is now ready to assist in
the provision of defibrillation training.
“Warning. Low battery”
If this warning is heard you may continue to use your HeartSine
samaritan® PAD Trainer for a limited period of time. If the trainer
becomes completely depleted of power it will shut itself down. At this
point the Trainer Pad-Pak must be recharged in order to continue using
the device.
Extended operation between charges
There are no user serviceable parts inside your
HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer, Trainer Pad-Pak or
charger. These products should not be opened. In
the unlikely event of a malfunction, please contact
your distributor immediately.
The HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer must only be
charged with the charger supplied with it. Use of any other
charging device will nullify the warranty and may result in
damage to the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer.
The HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer and charger are
designed for indoor use only. Do not use in wet or damp
environments.
Charging
The removable HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer Pad-Pak contains
a rechargeable battery. It is recommended that you ensure the
HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer Pad-Pak is fully charged prior to
any training activities.
When fully charged the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer will give
you approximately 6 hours of usage before it needs to be recharged.
The HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer will monitor the capacity of the
battery, as it approaches depletion the Trainer will play the following
message.
For extended use of the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer the device
can be used with its charger attached. This will allow the HeartSine
samaritan® PAD Trainer to operate longer than 6 hours between
recharging.
To use the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer while attached to the
mains electricity supply, simply connect it to the charger, as per the
instructions contained in the Charging Process. The HeartSine
samaritan® PAD Trainer will charge as you are using it.
If it is necessary to provide extended periods of training where
connection mains electricity is not possible, HeartSine Technologies
recommend you purchase a second Trainer Pad-Pak for your device,
this will allow you to remove the depleted Trainer Pad-Pak and replace
it with a second charged Trainer Pad-Pak. If you require a second
Trainer Pad-Pak contact your HeartSine Technologies authorised
distributor.
The HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer Pad-Pak contains a
rechargeable battery. It is recommended that you ensure the
HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer Pad-Pak is fully charged prior
to training activities.
To safely recharge the HeartSine samaritan® PAD Trainer follow
the instructions given below.
