How Does A Water Softener Work?
1. Hardwaterentersyourwatersoftener(1)andpassesdown
throughtheionexchangeresinbeadswhicharechargedwith
sodiumions.Thehardwaterions(calciumandmagnesium)are
attractedtotheionexchangeresinandanequalamountofso-
diumionsarebumpedoffintothewatersupply.Whenthewater
reachesthebottomofthetank,itissoftenedandreadytobeused
inyourhomeandbusiness.
2. Whentheionexchangeresinissaturatedwithcalciumandmag-
nesium(hardwaterions)itmustberecharged.(2)Astrongbrine
solutionentersthetankandushesthecalciumandmagnesium
ionsofftheionexchangeresinandattachesitself.
3. Analrinseprocessensuresthatanyunusedbrineisrinsedfrom
thesystemandyour(1) watersoftenerisnowfullyrechargedand
readytoprovideyouwithsoftwater.

Water Conditioning System
As of 6/6/2011, factory setting is low salting; 6.0 lbs per cubic foot of resin for efcient salt use and reduced chloride discharge. Factory settings are programmed for
clean, iron-free water such as city water supplies. On water supplies with turbidity and/or iron concentrations greater than 0.5 mg/L or high hardness levels, recom-
mended higher salting levels and second backwash option.
