1.Amodelaircraft shall be defined asanon-human-carrying devicecapableofsustained flight in
the atmosphere. It shall not exceed limitationsestablished inthiscode and isintended tobe used
exclusivelyforrecreationalorcompetition activity.
2.The maximumtakeoff weight ofamodelaircraft, including fuel, is55 pounds, except forthose
flownunderthe AMA ExperimentalAircraft Rules.
3.I will abide bythisSafetyCode and all rulesestablished forthe flying siteI use. I will not willfully
flymymodelaircraft inareckless and/ordangerousmanner.
4.I will not flymymodelaircraft insanctioned events, airshows, ormodeldemonstrationsuntil it
hasbeen proven airworthy.
5.Iwill notflymymodelaircrafthigherthan approximately400 feetaboveground level,when within
three (3)milesofan airport without notifying the airport operator. I will yieldthe right-of-wayand
avoidflying inthe proximityoffull-scaleaircraft, utilizing aspotterwhen appropriate.
6.I will not flymymodelaircraft unless it isidentified withmynameand address, orAMA number,
inside oraffixed tothe outside ofthe modelaircraft. Thisdoesnot applytomodelaircraft flown
indoors.
7.I will not operatemodelaircraft withmetal-blade propellersorwithgaseousboosts(otherthan
air), norwill I operatemodelaircraft withfuelscontaining tetranitromethane orhydrazine.
8.I will not operatemodelaircraft carrying pyrotechnicdevices, whichexplode, burn, orpropela
projectileofanykind. Exceptionsinclude Free Flight fusesordevicesthat burnproducing smoke
and aresecurelyattached tothe modelaircraft during flight. Rocket motorsup toaG-seriessize
maybe used, provided theyremainfirmlyattached tothe modelaircraft during flight. Model
rocketsmaybe flowninaccordancewiththe NationalModelRocketry SafetyCode; however,
theymaynot be launched frommodelaircraft. Officiallydesignated AMA AirShowTeams(AST)
areauthorized tousedevicesand practicesasdefined withinthe AirShowAdvisory Committee
Document.
9.I will not operatemymodelaircraft whileunderthe influenceofalcoholorwithineight(8)hoursof
having consumed alcohol.
10.I will not operatemymodelaircraftwhileusing anydrug whichcouldadverselyaffectmyabilityto
safelycontrolmymodelaircraft.
11.Children undersix(6)yearsoldareonlyallowed on aflightline orinaflight area asapilot or
whileunderflight instruction.
12.When and whererequired byrule, helmetsmust be properlywornand fastened. Theymust be
OSHA, DOT, ANSI, SNELL orNOCSAE approved orcomplywithcomparablestandards.
RADIO CONTROL
1.All modelflying shall be conducted inamannertoavoidoverflight ofunprotected people.
2.I will havecompleted asuccessfulradioequipment ground-range check beforethe first flight ofa
neworrepaired modelaircraft.
3.I will not flymymodelaircraftinthe presenceofspectatorsuntil Ibecomeaproficientflier,unless
I amassisted byan experienced pilot.
4.At all flying sitesaline mustbe established,infrontofwhichall flying takesplace.Onlypersonnel
associated withflying the modelaircraft areallowed at orinfront ofthe line. Inthe caseof
airshowsdemonstrationsstraight line must be established. Anarea awayfromthe line must be
maintained forspectators. Intentionalflying behind the line isprohibited.
5.I will operatemymodelaircraft using onlyradio-controlfrequenciescurrentlyallowed bythe
FederalCommunicationsCommission (FCC). Onlyindividualsproperlylicensed bythe FCC are
authorized tooperateequipment on AmateurBand frequencies.
6.I will not knowinglyoperatemymodelaircraft withinthree (3)milesofanypreexisting flying site
without afrequency-management agreement. Afrequency management agreement maybe an
allocation offrequenciesforeachsite, aday-useagreement between sites, ortesting which
determinesthat no interferenceexists. Afrequency-management agreement mayexist between
twoormoreAMA chartered clubs, AMA clubsand individualAMA members, orindividualAMA
members. Frequency-management agreements, including an interferencetest report ifthe
agreement indicatesno interferenceexists, will be signed byall partiesand copiesprovided to
AMA Headquarters.
7.Withthe exception ofeventsflownunderofficialAMA rules, no powered modelmaybe flown
outdoorscloserthan 25 feet toanyindividual, except forthe pilot and located at the flightline.
