1.0 Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing the monty electric/air tire
changer.
This tire changer is designed for ease of operation, safe
handling of rims, reliability and speed.
Thiscombinationof features meansmoreprofitand added
versatility for your shop, enabling you to work with
aluminum or magnesium alloy wheels without damaging
customer’s rims.
With a minimum of maintenance and care, your tire
changerwillprovidemanyyearsoftrouble-free operation.
Instructions on use, maintenance and operational
requirements of the machine are covered in this manual.
STORETHISMANUALINASAFE PLACE FORFUTURE
REFERENCE. READ THIS MANUAL THOROUGHLY
BEFORE USING THE MACHINE.
1.1 Use Limitations
The tire changer monty 1520 and monty 1520m is
designed to demount and mount tires with a diameter up
to 40”. Inflation of tires on the machine is feasible only up
to 50 PSI. Tires that require a higher pressure must be
inflated in suitable inflating devices (safety cage and the
like).
Clamping ranges for outer and inner clamping are:
monty 1520 (1520m)
Outer clamping 10” to 18” rim diameter
Inner clamping 12” to 20” rim diameter
The following optional extras are available:
- Jaws for motorcycle wheels. From 15” to 21”.
- Jawsformotor-scooter/ATVwheels.From7”to15”
- Small bead breaker blade for motorcycle wheels,
also to be used for narrow car wheels.

Precautions
A. DURING THE USE AND MAINTENANCE OF THE
MACHINE IT IS MANDATORY TO COMPLY WITH ALL
LAWS AND REGULATIONS FOR ACCIDENT
PREVENTION.
B. THE ELECTRIC POWER SOURCE MUST HAVE A
GROUND CABLEAND THE GROUND CABLE OF THE
MACHINE (YELLOW WITH GREEN) MUST BE
CONNECTED TO THE GROUND CABLE OF THE
POWER SOURCE.
C. BEFORE ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS ARE
ACCOMPLISHED THE MACHINE MUST BE
DISCONNECTED FROM THE ELECTRIC SUPPLY.
D. DO NOT WEAR TIES, CHAINS OR OTHER LOOSE
ARTICLES WHEN USING, MAINTAINING OR

1.8 Safety Devices
This machine has several protectors made of plastic to
preventcompressionorcrushing hazards.
Therotationspeed ofthechuckhas beenlimitedtoa maxi-
mumof12rpm topreventdraggingorentrapping hazards.
2.0 Carriage Instructions
The machine is crated in a wooden box of appropriate
strength.
The box is mounted to the pallet.
Handling of the machine must be made with an
appropriate lifting device (fork lift) (Fig. 2.0).
2.1 Uncrating Instructions
Uncratethemachinepayingattention when removing the
nails or during any other operation which may be
hazardous.
After removing the crate check for any visible damage to
the machine and its components.
In case of doubts, call qualified personnel for assistance.
The packing materials (plastic bags, polystyrene, nails,
screws, wood etc.) must be properly disposed of.
Place the above-mentioned materials into a trash
container and dispose per local regulations.
ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES WHEN UNCRATING THE
MACHINETOPREVENTSCRATCHESORABRASIONS
DUE TOTHE CONTACT WITH PACKING MATERIALS.
2.1.1 Transporting the machine at site
Suitable lifting cables and lifting facilities should be used
for transporting the machine.
Always mind the centre of gravity of the machine (Fig.
2.0.1).

-For transport of the machine, secure the mounting arm
against moving out of place.
-Move the clamping jaws into middle position.
-Select the length of the lifting cables such that the angle
of inclination does not exceed 60 degrees, as otherwise
lifting capacity is not sufficient.
-Positionthe lifting cables or other suitable liftingfacilities
on the machine as illustrated in Fig. 2.0.1.
-Whenliftingthe machine,makesurethatthe lifting cables
are properly positioned (mind the centre of gravity of the
machine) and that the machine does not turn over.

2.2 Installation Area
Install the machine in a covered and dryplace.Operation
temperature is +41/+122 F (+5/50 C).
A. Remove the screws that attach the machine to the
pallet.
B. Assemble the adjustment knob (#3 Fig. 2.1) to the
tower.
C. Bolt the column (Fig.2.2) and screw it to the cabinet
with the four screws #1, washers #2 and nuts #3.
Screws must be firmly tightened.
D. Place the bead breaker arm #1 (Fig.2.3) inside arm
support #4. Holes #5 for the arm and arm support must
match.Grease pin #6. Lock arm #1 tosupport#4 with pin
#6 and self locking hub nut #7.
E. Attach spring #3 (Fig.2.3) to the hook #2 on bead
breaker arm and attach it to the pin on the frame. Then
drivethepindown.
F. Secure the machine to the floor through the holes
providedinthecabinet.Securethe machine to the ground
withanchorbolts3/8x2”(Recommended).
2.3 Electrical Installation
WARNING!
ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS SHALL BE
PERFORMEDBYALICENCEDTECHNICIAN.
ALL SERVICE MUST BE PERFORMED BY AN
AUTHORIZEDSERVICETECHNICIAN.
Checkthatthe electricalspecificationsofthe powersource
arethesameasthe machine.The machineuses115VAC,
1Hp,12Amp.

2.4 Air Installation
WARNING!
THE AIR INSTALLATION MUST BE MADE ONLY BY
LICENSEDPERSONNEL.
WARNING!
EXCESSIVEAIRPRESSURECANSERIOUSLYINJURE
PERSONNELAND DAMAGE THE MACHINE.
Ensure that the line pressure is within the limits required
by the machine. If the air pressure exceeds 170 psi it is
mandatory to install a pressure regulator before the air
inlet of the machine.
After ensuring all the above proceed as follows:
WARNING!
BEFORE CONNECTING THE MACHINE TO THE AIR
SUPPLY BE SURE ALL PERSONNELARE CLEAR OF
THE MACHINEAND THATNOTHING IS LEFT ON THE
TURNTABLEAREA(TOOLS).
- Connectthe machine to the air supply o:(Fig.2.4)witha
rubber hose (rated for the pressure) with an inside
diameter of 1/4” (6 mm).
- Theair inlet fitting is provided with ¼” NPT taperedpipe
threads.
3.0 Controls
Before operating the machine ensure that you have well
understood the operation and function of all the controls
(Fig.3.0).
A. Press down and release, the first pedal from the left:
the turntable turns clockwise. Lift the pedal and the
turntable turns counter-clockwise.
B. Press down and hold, the second pedal from the right:
the clamps of the turntable will retract. Do it again: the
clamps will expand. If you press the pedal prior to the end
of the stroke and release, the clamps may be stopped in
anyposition.
WARNING!
WATCH YOUR FINGERSAND LEGS!
C.Openthebeadbreakerarm.Pressdownthefirstpedal
fromthe right: by doing this youoperatethe bead breaker
bladeandthearmwillmove towardsthemachine.Release
the pedal: the bead breaker blade will retract.
D. Lower the lock handle to unlock (#1 Fig.3.0) the
hexagonal bar, lift the handle to lock.
E. Turn the adjustment knob (#2 Fig. 3.0) for positioning
mount/demount head according to rim diameter.
F. Press bead seater/inflator pedal on left side of the
machine half way down (#3 Fig. 3.0): air will come from
inflation hose end only.

4.0 Mounting and Demounting
Precautions
IMPORTANT!
BEFORE MOUNTING A TIRE ON A RIM ENSURE THE
FOLLOWING RULESARE OBSERVED:
A. THE RIM MUST BE CLEAN AND IN GOOD
CONDITION: IF NECESSARY CLEAN AFTER
REMOVINGALLWHEEL-WEIGHTS INCLUDING ‘TAPE
WEIGHTS’INSIDE THE RIM.
B. THE TIRE MUST BE CLEAN AND DRY, WITH NO
DAMAGE TO THE BEADAND THE CASING.
C. REPLACE THE RUBBER VALVE STEM WITHANEW
ONE OR REPLACE THE ‘O’RING IF THE VALVE STEM
IS MADE OF METAL.
D. IF THE TIRE REQUIRESATUBE, MAKE SURE THE
TUBE IS DRYAND IN GOOD CONDITION.
E. LUBRICATION IS NECESSARY FOR CORRECT
MOUNTING OF THETIREAND PROPER CENTERING.
USE ONLYANAPPROVED LUBRICANTFOR TIRES.
F. MAKE SURE THE TIRE ISTHE CORRECT SIZE FOR
THE RIM.
4.1 Demounting Tubeless Tires
A. Remove all wheel-weights from the rim.
Remove the valve stem or core and deflate the tire
(Fig.4.0).
B. Break both beads.
Pay extra attention during this operation as it easy to
mistakenlykeep your foot on the bead-breaking pedal too
long.
This could result in immediate bead damage (Fig.4.1)
WARNING!
ON CHEVROLET CORVETTE WHEELS WITH THE
OPTIONAL LOW PRESSURE SENSOR INSTALLED,
BREAK THE BEAD AT 90 DEGREES OFFSET FROM
THE VALVE STEM. DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WILL
RESULT IF THE BEAD IS BROKEN AT ANY OTHER
POINT ON THE RIM.
C.Settherim clampstotheproper position:retractclamps
to clamp the wheel from the inside and expand clamps to
clamp from the outside.
Clamping the wheels from the outside set the clamps at a
diameter nearly equal to the rim diameter, before placing
thewheelonthe clamps. Thiswill avoid theriskofpinching
the tire.
WARNING
TOMINIMIZETHERISKOFSCRATCHINGALLOYRIMS,
THESE SHOULD BE CLAMPED FROM THE OUTSIDE
D. Liberally lubricate both beads.
Place the wheel WITH DROP CENTER UP (Fig.4.2) on
the turntable, and clamp in position. Hold the wheel down
while clamping.
G. Press bead seater pedal down swiftly to get air blast
from the inflator jets (Except 1520m). Air simultaneously
comes out from inflator hose.
ATTENTION!
WHEN OPERATING THE BEAD SEATER IT IS
MANDATORY TO WEAR SAFETY GLASSES TO
PROTECTEYES.

E. Position the mount/demount head in contact with the
rimedgeandlockitintoplace:thetoolautomaticallymoves
away from the rim edge vertically. Turn the adjustment
knob until the mount/demount head clears from the rim
flange about 2 mm (1/16"): this is necessary to avoid rim
damage (Fig.4.3).
NOTE:
THE PLASTIC INSERT INSIDE THE MOUNT/
DEMOUNT TOOL MUST BE
PERIODICALLY REPLACED. EVERY
MACHINE IS EQUIPPED WITH SEVERAL
PLASTIC INSERTS (INSIDE STANDARD
EQUIPMENT BOX).IF DESIRED, THE
PLASTIC INSERT MAYBE REPLACED BY
ASTEELROLLERALSOINCLUDEDINTHE
STANDARD EQUIPMENT BOX. FOLLOW
THE INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED WITH
THE REPLACEMENT PARTS.
NOTE:
ONCE THE MOUNT/DEMOUNT HEAD IS
POSITIONED PROPERLY, MATCHING
WHEELS MAY BE CHANGED WITHOUT
HAVING TO RESET THE HEAD.
F. Insert the bead-lifting tool under the bead and over the
support of the mount/demount tool. Lift the bead onto the
mounting finger. To facilitate this operation, press with left
handonthebeadinpositiondiametricallyoppositetothat
ofthetool.Ifdesired, the bead-liftingtoolcanberemoved
after lifting the bead onto the finger (Fig.4.4).
G. Rotate the turntable clockwise and at the same time
push down on the tire sidewall to move the bead into the
drop-center of the rim (Fig.4.5).
H. Repeat the process for removing the lower bead. With
left hand, lift the bead in opposite to the tool to keep it in
the drop center (Fig.4.6). Move the swing arm aside and
complete the operation removing the tire.
4.2 Mounting Tubeless Tires
A. Lubricate the entire rim surface (Fig.4.7).
Lubricate both beads, inside and outside, (Fig.4.8).
