Wehavedesignedthishigh-qualityproducttomakeyourlifesaferandeasier,andwe’veincludedthismanual
tohelpyouuseandcareforit.Pleasereadthefollowinginstructionstomakesureyouusethisproductas
recommended.Ifyouhaveanyfurtherquestions,orifyouhaveanyproblems,pleasecontactyourhealthcare
provider.WehopethatFAROmeetsyourexpectations.
Thedesign,asdescribedintheseinstructionsforuse,aresubjecttotechnicalalterationswithoutnotice.
2.2 Application
TheFARO wheelchairisdesignedsolelyforindividualindoorandoutdoorusebypersonswhoare
unabletowalkorwhohaveawalkingimpediment,andcanbeoperatedbythepatientorbyanotherperson.

Familiarizeyourselfwithhandlingandfunctionsofthewheelchairbeforeuseandpractice
thehandling.
Youareresponsibleforthesafetyofyourchild.Thesafetyofyourchildcouldbe
affectedifyoudonotfollowtheinstructionsofthismanual.Neverthelessnotallpossible
circumstancesandunpredictablesituationscanbecoveredbythismanual.Reason,care
andcircumspectionarenotfeaturesoftheproduct,theyarerequiredofpersons,whouse
thewheelchairorattendit.Theperson,whoisusingthewheelchairanditsaccessories
shouldunderstandallinstructions.Itmustexplainedtoeveryotherpersonusingthe
wheelchairanditsaccessories.
Ifinstructionsarenotclearandfurtherexplanationsbecomenecessary,orifyouhave
furtherquestionspleasecontactyourHOGGIdealer.
Practisewiththenewwheelchaironeven,straightforwardterrainrst,togetherwiththe
child.Togetherwiththechild,learnhowthewheelchairreactswhenthecentreofgravity
shifts;forexampleonslopesorinclinesorwhenclearingobstaclessuchasstepsand
curbs.Thisshouldbedoneonlywithassistancefromanotherperson.
Usingananti-tipisstronglyrecommendedforinexperiencedwheelchairusers.
Strapinyourchildatalltimes,whenitisinthewheelchair.
HOGGIpointsout,thatanyusebesidethetypicalusecanbedangerous.Thewheelchair
isnotsuitableforjogging,running,skatingorsimilaractivities.Swivellingfrontwheelstend
towobbleathigherspeed,whichcancauseasuddenstopandtipoverofthewheelchair.
Usethewheelchaironlyatregularwalkingspeed.Undernocircumstancesleavethe
handlebarwhilepushingandneverpushthewheelchairaway.
Thewheelchairshouldonlybeusedonsolidlevelground.

Useyourwheelchairasintendedbythemanufacturer.Forinstance,donotdriveinto
obstacles(includingsteps,curbs)withoutbraking.Donot„jump”thechairdownfrom
highersurfaces.
Toclearobstaclessuchasstepsandcurbs,tiltthewheelchairontotherearwheels(pullit
backwardstogoup;todescend,slowlyloweritforward).
Ifonlyoneattendantisavailablewhenascendingordescendingstairs,anincorrectlyset
anti-tip(ifmountedatall)canleadtoseverefalls.Adjusttheanti-tippersothatitdoesnot
comeinthewayofthestepsduringtransport.Afterwards,swingtheanti-tipperbacktoits
operationalposition.
Donotgoupordownstairswithouttheassistanceofanotherperson.Ifdevicessuch
asrampsorelevatorsareavailable,pleaseusethem.Ensurethattheanti-tip(ifmounted)
isoutsidethedanger-area.Ifwheelchairfriendlyaccessismissing,twoattendantsmust
carrythewheelchairovertheobstacle.
FassenSiedenRollstuhlzumAnhebennuranfestverschweißtenbzw.festverschraubten
Rahmenteilenan(amSeitenrahmenoberhalbderLenkräderundandenSchiebegriffen
dieandenRückenrohrenverschraubtsind-alternativkannmanauchbeigeschlossenen
BremsendieGreifreifenverwenden).
Whenascendingslopesorrampsandwhencrossingobstaclesonupwardslopes,always
leanthewheelchairuser‘supperbodyfarforward.
Whendescendingslopes,donotdrivewithoutbrakingandreduceyourspeed.Reduced
loadonthecastersduetocentreofgravityshiftingcancausethecasterstoutter.
Ifyouhavetoparkonaslope,facethewheelchairuphillwiththebrakesengagedand
ensurethattheseatisintheuprightposition.Thereisariskthatthepushchairmighttip
overbackwardsiftheseatisthereclinedposition.
Beforeleavingthewheelchairandbeforegettingintoandoutofit,alwayslockthewheel
locks.
Donotuseanyfootplatetogetinoroutofthewheelchair.
Dependingonfootplatesettingsandwheelchairgeometry,thewheelchairmaytipoverif
theuserboardsthechairusingthefootplate.Firstpractiseboardingthechairwiththechild
andanattendantwhocansecurethewheelchair,andmodifyfootplateandseatheight
settingsifthechairhasatendencytotipover.Inaddition,turnthecasterforktothefront
priortousingthefootplateforgettingintothewheelchair;thisincreasesthewheelbase
andtherebythewheelchair‘sstabilityagainsttipping.
Theeffectivenessofthewheellockandtheoveralldrivingqualityaredependenton
adequateairpressure.Withproperlyinatedrearwheelsandeventyrepressureonboth
sides,yourwheelchairismucheasiertooperateandmanoeuvre.Beforestartingtouse
yourwheelchair,checkthatthetyresareinatedcorrectly.Therequiredairpressureis
printedonthesideofthetyre.Forrearwheels,itshouldbeatleast6bar.
Allbrakesactingonthetyresdonotserveasservicebrakebutareonlydesignedas
parkingbrake(wheellock).Thewheellocksmustnotbeusedasdrivingbrakesforslowing
downthewheelchair,asinextremecases,theabruptstoppingofthewheelchaircanlead
tofalls.
Pleasekeeppackagingmaterialawayfromchildren.Plasticpackagingpresentsthe
dangerofsuffocation.

Disposalofwaste:Thepackagingmaterialasfarasmetal,aluminiumandplasticpartscan
berecycled.Therecyclingmustbeoperatedaccordingtothenationalandlegalterms.
Neverleaveyourchildunattendedinthewheelchairevenwhentheyarestrappedinand
thebrakesengaged.
Inthedark,theusershouldwearlightclothingorclothingwithreectorsinordertoimprove
visibility.Ensurethatthereectorsinstalledonthesidesandrearofthewheelchairare
easilyvisible.Wealsorecommendinstallingactiveillumination.
Extremesettings(e.g.shortestwheelbaseandseatinthebackmostposition)combined
withanunfavourablebodyposturecancausethewheelchairtotipevenonlevelground.
Staticstabilityis(withextremesettingse.g.activedegree5)<10°inclination.
Useantitipsinthatcasenecessarily.
Attachingheavybagsorotherweighttothepushhandlescanadverselyaffectstability.
Adjustmentswithahighactivedegreedemandapractiseddriverandtheuseofantitips.
Undernoconditionsshouldtheanti-tip(s)assumethefunctionoftransportwheels,for
exampletotransportapersoninthewheelchairwiththerearwheelsremoved.Theanti
tipsmustaudiblylockinplace,beforeitisabletobearloads.
Firmseatingmustbeveriedbytheuserorbyanattendant.
FAROisonlyintendedtocarryonechildatatime.
ThemaximumloadforFAROis100kg.
Allaccessoriesandadd-onsreducethemaximumloadproportionately.
Werecommendthat,whereverandwheneverpossible,userstransfertotheseatsinstalled
inthemotorvehicleandusethecorrespondingvehiclerestraintsystems,becausethisis
theonlywaytoensureoptimumprotectionofthepassengersincaseofanaccident.
YourFAROisnotadmittedforuseasaseatinamotorvehicle.
Becarefulincaseofextremetemperatures.Thewheelchaircanheatupsignicantlywhen
inthesunorinthesauna.Inextremecold,thereisariskofhypothermia.
Slowingdownfromhighspeedsorwhendescendinglongerslopestendstoheatupthe
handsandngers,especiallyifusingaluminiumpushrings.Whenusingthewheelchair
outdoors,leatherglovesshouldbeworn.Glovesprovidethewheelchairuserwithabetter
gripandprotecthisorherngersfromdirtandhotmetal.
Alwaysmakesurethatthequick-releaseaxlesarecorrectlysetontherearwheel.Itmay
notbepossibletoremovetherearwheelunlessthebuttononthequick-releaseaxleis
pushed.
Theassemblyofaseatshellisonlypermittedwithinthespeciedseatingarea.
Themanufacturerofthatnewproductcombinationhastotestthestabilityandthead-
herenceofthemaximumloadbeforecommissioning.
Avoidreachingintoanyclampingrange.
Dangerofclampingexistinfollowingassemblygroups:
-Brakelever(ifFARO issuppliedwithfenderwithintegratedbrakesystem)
-Betweenbrakeleverandrearwheel(ifFARO issuppliedwithbrakeHOGGIlightFARO)

4 Delivery and preparing for use
Your FARO wheelchairwillnormallybesuppliedcompletely
mountedwithfoldedbackrestandwithremovedfrontcastorsand
rearwheels.(1).
The original package contains the following parts:
•Wheelchairwithdetachedorfoldedpush-bar/push-handle
•Rearwheelsandquick-releaseaxlesunmounted
•Frontcastorsalreadymountedinthefrontcastorforks
•Additionalaccessoriesasordered
•Instructionsandlistoftoolsrequired
Pleaseremovethetransportpackagingcarefully.
To prepare the wheelchair for use please proceed as follows:
•Griptheheadofthequick-releaseaxleasillustrated(2)andpress
thereleaseknob.
•Whilstpressingthereleaseknob,positionthequick-releaseaxle
intotherearwheelbearing(3).
•Placethewheelchairontothefrontcastorsandliftthewheelchair
atthebackresttubeorthepushhandle.
•Inserttherearwheelandthequick-releaseaxleintotheaxle
housing.Holdthespokes(4)closetothewheelhubandpressthe
releaseknobwithyourthumb.Therearwheelcanthenbeeasily
slidintoposition.
CAUTION!
Pusheachrearwheeltocheckthateachquick-release
axleissafelylocated.
Unfolding FARO:
•Stepbesidesthewheelchair(5).
•Activatethebrakes(5).
CAUTION!
Avoidreachingintoanyclampingrange.

5 Adjusting and adaptation possibilities
5.1 HOGGI light wheel locks
•Pressthebrakeleverbelowtolockthewheellock(18).
CAUTION!
Allbrakesactingonthetiresdonotserveasaslowdown
brakebutareonlydesignedasaparkingbrake(wheel
lock).Thewheellocksmustnotbeusedasdrivingbrakes
forslowingdownthewheelchair,asinextremecases,the
abruptstoppingofthewheelchaircanleadtofalls.
Thebrakeshoepressesonthetiresandgripsittightly.Thebrake
shoeis,therefore,ata90°angletoitsholder(19).Thebrakeshoe
shouldoverlap3-5mmtothemiddleofthewheel(19).
CAUTION!
Theeffectivenessofthewheellockaredependent
onadequateairpressure.Beforestartingtouseyour
wheelchair,checkthatthetiresareinatedcorrectly.
Therequiredairpressureisprintedonthesideofthe
tires.Forrearwheels,itshouldbeatleast6bar.
•Toreleasethewheellockpullthebrakeleverupwards(20).

•Whenthewheellockisreleasedthedistancefromthebrakeshoe
tothewheelshouldbe12-15mm.
•Thedistanceofthebrakeshoeisadjustable.Usethemarked
adjustmentscrews.

adifferentseatheight.
Theseat angle dependsonthechosensizeofrear-andfront
wheelsaswellastheheightoftherearaxleandthepositionofthe

5.10 Detaching the rear wheels with quick-release axles
Therearwheelsareremovedbymeansofaquick-release
mechanism.Thisreducesthevolumeofthewheelchairfor
transportation:
•Tiltthewheelchairontothefrontcastorsandliftitbyholdingthe
rearedgeoftheseat.
•Gripthespokesclosetothewheelhuband,withthethumb,press
thereleaseknobofthequick-releaseaxle.
•Pulltherearwheelwiththequick-releaseaxleoutoftheaxle
housing.
•Toavoidariskofsnagging,itmaybepreferabletowithdrawthe
quick-releaseaxlesfromtherearwheels.
•Tore-assembletherearwheelsrefertosection4“Deliveryand
preparingforuse”.
CAUTION!
Pushsharplyoneachrearwheeltoensurethatthe
quickreleaseaxlesaresecurelylocated.
