tomakeyourlifesaferandeasier,andwe’veincludedthismanualtohelpyouuseand
careforit.
Pleasereadthefollowinginstructionstomakesureyouusethisproductasrecommended.
Ifyouhaveanyfurtherquestions,orifyouhaveanyproblems,pleasecontactyour

Wereservetechnicalmodicationsregardingthespeciedmodelinthismanual.Before
usingthewheelchairthersttime,thismanualhastobereadandunderstoodbypatient
andsupportpersonnelinodertoensureasafehandlingwiththewheelchair.
2.2Application
TheCESAwheelchairisdesignedsolelyforindividualindoorandoutdoorusebychildern
andadolescentswhoareunabletowalkorwhohaveawalkingimpediment,andcanbe
operatedbythepatientorbyanotherperson.

inapropptiatepartsneedtobechanged.Pleaseseealsotheservicemanualfordetailled

2.3DeclarationofConformity
TheHOGGIGmbHasmanufacturerwithsoleresponsibilitydeclaresthattherehabbuggy
CESAconformstotherequirementsofthe93/42/EECGuidelines(consideringalsothe
modicationsofMDD2007/47/EG).
Applicableharmonizedstandardshavebeenapplied.TheCESAwheelchairmeetsthe
requirementsofISO7176-8.

3.2 Commonsafetyinstructions
Readmanualcompletelybeforeuse!Familiarizeyourselfwithhandlingandfunctionsof
thewheelchairbeforeuseandpracticethehandling.Youareresponsibleforthesafetyof
yourchild.Thesafetyofyourchildcouldbeaffectedifyoudonotfollowtheinstructions
ofthismanual.Neverthelessnotallpossiblecircumstancesandunpredictablesituations
canbecoveredbythismanual.Reason,careandcircumspectionarenotfeaturesofthe
product,theyarerequiredofpersons,whousethewheelchairorattendit.Theperson,
whoisusingthewheelchairanditsaccessoriesshouldunderstandallinstructions.
Itmustexplainedtoeveryotherpersonusingthewheelchairanditsaccessories.If
instructionsarenotclearandfurtherexplanationsbecomenecessary,orifyouhave
furtherquestionspleasecontactyourHOGGIdealer.Practisewiththenewwheelchair
oneven,straightforwardterrainrst,togetherwiththechild.Togetherwiththechild,
learnhowthewheelchairreactswhenthecentreofgravityshifts;forexampleonslopes
orinclinesorwhenclearingobstaclessuchasstepsandcurbs.Thisshouldbedone
onlywithassistancefromanotherperson.Usingananti-tipisstronglyrecommendedfor
inexperiencedwheelchairusers.
Strapinyourchildatalltimes,whenitisinthewheelchair.
HOGGIpointsout,thatanyusebesidethetypicalusecanbedangerous.Thewheelchair
isnotsuitableforjogging,running,skatingorsimilaractivities.Swivellingfrontwheelstend
towobbleathigherspeed,whichcancauseasuddenstopandtipoverofthewheelchair.
Usethewheelchaironlyatregularwalkingspeed.Undernocircumstancesleavethe
handlebarwhilepushingandneverpushthewheelchairaway.
Thewheelchairshouldonlybeusedonsolidlevelground.
Useyourwheelchairasintendedbythemanufacturer.Forinstance,donot
driveintoobstacles(includingsteps,curbs)withoutbraking.Donot„jump”the
chairdownfromhighersurfaces.

Toclearobstaclessuchasstepsandcurbs,tiltthewheelchairontotherearwheels(pullit
backwardstogoup;todescend,slowlyloweritforward).
Ifonlyoneattendantisavailablewhenascendingordescendingstairs,anincorrectlyset
anti-tip(ifmountedatall)canleadtoseverefalls.Adjusttheanti-tippersothatitdoesnot
comeinthewayofthestepsduringtransport.Afterwards,swingtheanti-tipperbacktoits
operationalposition.
Donotgoupordownstairswithouttheassistanceofanotherperson.Ifdevicessuch
asrampsorelevatorsareavailable,pleaseusethem.Ensurethattheanti-tip(ifmounted)
isoutsidethedanger-area.Ifwheelchairfriendlyaccessismissing,twoattendantsmust
carrythewheelchairovertheobstacle.
Thewheelchairshouldbeliftedonlybytouchingtightenpartsoftheframe(ontheside
frameabovethefrontwheelsandonthepushhandleswhicharexedonthebackrest
base-ifbrakesareclosed,alsothepush-rimscanbeusedforlifting).
Whenascendingslopesorrampsandwhencrossingobstaclesonupwardslopes,always
leanthewheelchairuser‘supperbodyfarforward.
Whendescendingslopes,donotdrivewithoutbrakingandreduceyourspeed.Reduced
loadonthecastersduetocentreofgravityshiftingcancausethecasterstoutter.
Ifyouhavetoparkonaslope,facethewheelchairuphillwiththebrakesengagedand
ensurethattheseatisintheuprightposition.Thereisariskthatthepushchairmighttip
overbackwardsiftheseatisthereclinedposition.
Beforeleavingthewheelchairandbeforegettingintoandoutofit,alwayslockthewheel
locks.
-Don´tusethefootresttogetintoandoutofthewheelchairgenerally.
-Usethefootrestwithshoesonly.
Dependingonfootplatesettingsandwheelchairgeometry,thewheelchairmaytipoverif
theuserboardsthechairusingthefootplate.Firstpractiseboardingthechairwiththe
childandanattendantwhocansecurethewheelchair,andmodifyfootplateandseat
heightsettingsifthechairhasatendencytotipover.Inaddition,turnthecasterforktothe
frontpriortousingthefootplateforgettingintothewheelchair;thisincreasesthe
wheelbaseandtherebythewheelchair‘sstabilityagainsttipping.
Theeffectivenessofthewheellockandtheoveralldrivingqualityaredependenton
adequateairpressure.Withproperlyinatedrearwheelsandeventyrepressureonboth
sides,yourwheelchairismucheasiertooperateandmanoeuvre.Beforestartingtouse
yourwheelchair,checkthatthetyresareinatedcorrectly.Therequiredairpressureis
printedonthesideofthetyre.Forrearwheels,itshouldbeatleast6bar.
Allbrakesactingonthetyresdonotserveasservicebrakebutareonlydesignedas
parkingbrake(wheellock).Thewheellocksmustnotbeusedasdrivingbrakesforslowing
downthewheelchair,asinextremecases,theabruptstoppingofthewheelchaircanlead
tofalls.
Pleasekeeppackagingmaterialawayfromchildren.Plasticpackagingpresentsthe
dangerofsuffocation.
Disposalofwaste:Thepackagingmaterialasfarasmetal,aluminiumandplasticparts
canberecycled.Therecyclingmustbeoperatedaccordingtothenationalandlegal
terms.

Checktheconditionoftheproductifthepackagingshowsdamages.
Neverleaveyourchildunattendedinthewheelchairevenwhentheyarestrappedinand
thebrakesengaged.
Inthedark,theusershouldwearlightclothingorclothingwithreectorsinorderto
improvevisibility.Ensurethatthereectorsareinstalledonthesidesandrearofthe
wheelchair.
Extremesettings(e.g.shortestwheelbaseandseatinthebackmostposition)combined
withanunfavourablebodyposturecancausethewheelchairtotipevenonlevelground.
Staticstabilityis>10°inclination.
Attachingheavybagsorotherweighttothepushhandlescanadverselyaffectstability.
Adjustmentswithahighactivedegreedemandapractiseddriverandtheuseofanantitip.
Undernoconditionsshouldtheanti-tip(s)assumethefunctionoftransportwheels,for
exampletotransportapersoninthewheelchairwiththerearwheelsremoved.The
antitipsmustaudiblylockinplace,beforeitisabletobearloads.
Firmseatingmustbeveriedbytheuserorbyanattendant.
Themaximumloadforthewheelchairis100kg.
Accessoriesandadd-onsreducethemaximumloadproportionately.
Caution!
Werecommendthat,whereverandwheneverpossible,userstransfertotheseatsinstalled
inthemotorvehicleandusethecorrespondingvehiclerestraintsystems,becausethis
istheonlywaytoensureoptimumprotectionofthepassengersincaseofanaccident.
CESAisadmittedforuseasaseatinamotorvehicle.
Becarefulincaseofextremetemperatures.Thewheelchaircanheatupsignicantly
wheninthesunorinthesauna.Inextremecold,thereisariskofhypothermia.
Slowingdownfromhighspeedsorwhendescendinglongerslopestendstoheatupthe
handsandngers,especiallyifusingaluminiumpushrings.Whenusingthewheelchair
outdoors,leatherglovesshouldbeworn.Glovesprovidethewheelchairuserwithabetter
gripandprotecthisorherngersfromdirtandhotmetal.
Alwaysmakesurethatthethruaxlesontherearwheelarecorrectlyadjusted.Ifthe
buttonofthethruaxleisnotpressed,therearwheelmustnotberemoved.

Theassemblyofaseatshellisonlypermittedwithinthespeciedseatingarea.
Themanufacturerofthatnewproductcombinationhastotestthestabilityandthe
adherenceofthemaximumloadbeforecommissioning.Whenapplyingseatandbackrest
panelsalwaysuseupholsteredseatcushionstoavoidtoavoiddents.
Avoidreachingintoanyclampingrange.
Dangerofclampingexistinfollowingassemblygroups:
-Brakelever(ifCESAissuppliedwithfenderwithintegratedbrakesystem)
-Betweenbrakeleverandrearwheel
Thewheelchairshouldbeliftedonlybytouchingtightenpartsoftheframe(ontheside
frameabovethefrontwheelsandonthepushhandleswhicharexedonthebackrest
base-ifbrakesareclosed,alsothepush-rimscanbeusedforlifting).
TheHOGGIseatcushion(TreviraCS)andthecontouredseatcushion(TreviraCS)as
wellastheHOGGInylonbackrestabdseatcoverareameresistantreferredtotheEN
1021-1andEN1021-2norm.

Wheneveryouchangeanysettingsonthewheelchair,makesurethatyourmlytighten
anyscrewsthathavebeenloosened.
Alwaysmakesurethatthethruaxlesontherearwheelarecorrectlyadjusted.Ifthe
buttonofthethruaxleisnotpressed,therearwheelmustnotberemoved.
AlwaysmakesurethatduringtransportintheBTW(disabledtransportcart),the
tensileforceperbelt(max.10kg)mustnotbeexceeded,otherwisedamagetothe
frameofthewheelchairmayoccur.

YourCESAwheelchairwillnormallybesuppliedcompletelymounted
withremovedrearwheelsandifnecessaryremovedanti-tippers(1).
Deliveryinboard:730mm(L)x630mm(W)x630mm(H).
Pleasechecktheconditionoftheproductifthepackagingshows
damages.
Pleaseremovethetransportpackagingcarefully.
Theoriginalpackagecontainsthefollowingparts:

Topreparethewheelchairforusepleaseproceedasfollows:
•Griptheheadofthequick-releaseaxleasillustratedandpressthe
releaseknob.
•Whilstpressingthereleaseknob,positionthequick-releaseaxle
intotherearwheelbearing.
•Placethewheelchairontothefrontcastorsandliftthewheelchair
atthebackclamp.
•Inserttherearwheelandthequick-releaseaxleintotheaxle
housing.Holdthespokesclosetothewheelhubandpressthe
releaseknobwithyourthumb.Therearwheelcanthenbeeasily
slideintoposition.
•Makesurethattheplug-inaxleissecurelylockedinthereceiving
socket!
CAUTION!
Pusheachrearwheeltocheckthateachquick-release
axleissafelylocated.
Ifyouwheelchairissuppliedwithananti-tipitcouldbeinhinged
positionfortransportation.
•Placeyourselfbehindthewheelchairandmovetheanti-tipwiththe
footdownwards.

5Adjustingandadaptationpossibilities
5.1BrakeHOGGIlight
•Toclosethebrake,pushthebrakeleverwithyourforenger
backwards.
CAUTION!
Allbrakesactingonthetiresdonotserveasaslowdown
brakebutareonlydesignedasaparkingbrake(wheel
lock).Thewheellocksmustnotbeusedasdrivingbrakes
forslowingdownthewheelchair,asinextremecases,the
abruptstoppingofthewheelchaircanleadtofalls.
•ToopentheHOGGIlightbrake,pushthebrakeleverforward
asshown.
CAUTION!
Theeffectivenessofthewheellockaredependent
onadequateairpressure.Beforestartingtouseyour
wheelchair,checkthatthetiresareinatedcorrectly.
Therequiredairpressureisprintedonthesideofthe
tires.Forrearwheels,itshouldbeatleast6bar.
TheillustrationshowsaclosedHOGGI lightbrake.
5.2 Seat width
CESAisavailableinthreeframesizes.Seatwidthsfrom24cm
upto44cmarepossible.Theseat widthgetsmeasured
betweenthebaseplaterespectivelybetweenthewheelguards.
TheCESAwheelchairwillbebuiltinaccordancewiththe
customer’sorder.Itispossibleforthetechniciantomodifythe
wheelchairwithadifferentseatwidth.
5.3Seatheight,Seatdepth,Seatangle
Seatheight,seat depthandseatanglewillbeadjustedonthe
baseplates.
TheCESAwheelchairwillbebuiltinaccordancewiththe
customer’sorder.Itispossibleforthedealertomodifytheseat
height,seatbdepthandseatangleoftherearwheels.

TheCESAwheelchaircanbesuppliedwithrearwheels
inclined(camber)3°fromthevertical.Theillustrationshows

•Pulltherearwheelwiththequick-releaseaxleoutoftheaxle
housing.
•Toavoidariskofsnagging,itmaybepreferabletowithdrawthe
quick-releaseaxlesfromtherearwheels.

5.11Pneumatictires/PU-tires
Therearwheelscanbesuppliedwithpneumatictires(62,left).
Thecartypevalvesenablethetyrestobecheckedorinatedat
anypetrolstationorbymeansofasuitablepump,supplyinga
minimum6barpressure.
Checkthemaximumtirepressure,whichisindicatedonthetire.
ThedrivewheelscanalsobesuppliedwithsolidPU-tyres.
5.12 Push rims
Pushrimscanbesuppliedinaluminiumorstainlesssteel
accordingtopreference.

pushrims“high”.
