n agr cultural land us ng water. No other use of the mach ne s perm tted. The
manufacturer s not l able for damage caused by use that s not descr bed n th s user
manual. If the mach ne does have to be used for a d fferent purpose, th s requ res the
pr or wr tten perm ss on from the manufacturer.

5 SAFETY
5.1 General
HOMBURG HOLLAND does not accept any l ab l ty for damage caused by acts n
v olat on of th s user manual. If the mach ne s used n v olat on of th s user manual, that
w ll automat cally vo d the warranty of the mach ne and the manufacturer’s product
l ab l ty.
The mach ne may only be used by operat ng staff or ma ntenance staff older than 18
who have fully read and understood th s user manual and who are fam l ar w th the use
of the mach ne.
In add t on, we recommend to follow a short course n operat ng and ma nta n ng the
mach ne, wh ch can be arranged by the manufacturer or a d fferent company or
mporter recogn sed for that purpose by the manufacturer of the mach ne.
You, as mach ne operator or eng neer, are the one who determ nes whether the
mach ne s used n accordance w th th s user manual.
Always observe the operat ng manual of the tractor to be used, the cardan shaft and
the water pump when us ng the mach ne.

DANGER!
Failure to observe the following safety instru tions may result in bodily injury,
disability or death.
5.2 Before starting work
• Warn ng or safety prov s ons or guards on the mach ne must regularly be checked
for presence and performance
• The mach ne must not be used unless t s n perfect techn cal cond t on. Do not
operate a mach ne when parts are worn.
• The mach ne must only be used w th a su table tractor that s n perfect techn cal
cond t on.
• Do not act vate the water pump when t can reasonably be expected that the water
n the pump s frozen.
• Make sure there are no ch ldren and/or an mals near the mach ne when t s be ng
operated. All people must keep out of the mach ne's operat ng range.
• Always nspect the area where the mach ne s go ng to be used (he ght, w dth,
bear ng capac ty embankments, shoulders, floors, br dges, r sk of explos on etc.).
• Wear adequate eye protect on (goggles). The flush ng water leav ng the dra np pe
under pressure may carry off small hard objects at h gh speed.
• Always check the mach ne for loose bolts and nuts, damage, leakage or defects and
correct operat on (also the tools and accessor es).
• Check all guards, warn ngs and safety dev ces for presence and proper
performance.
• Do not operate the mach ne when your are t red or have used alcohol, med c nes or
drugs.
• Beware of dangerous cloth ng, long ha r or jewellery that may get caught
somewhere.
• Keep the controls free of food, o l, d rt, dust, snow and ce.
• When the mach ne s operated at amb ent temperatures below zero degrees
Cels us, the water pump may get damaged when t s sw tched on.
• Use a tractor w th safety cab or roll bar as prescr bed by the law.

5.3 Hitching and unhitching
• The mach ne must only be h tched to the tractor us ng the three-po nt suspens on
ntended for that purpose n accordance w th the safety requ rements.
• Utmost care must be taken when h tch ng or unh tch ng the mach ne.
• When h tch ng or unh tch ng the mach ne, the tractor operat ng lever must be placed
n such a pos t on that t cannot nadvertently be moved.
• Make sure the mach ne l nk p n d ameters match the hole d ameters of the tractor
three-po nt.
* WARNING: In the area of the tractor three-po nt the r sk of gett ng caught and
susta n ng njury ex sts.
* Lock the stab l ser rods before enter ng a publ c road. Th s w ll prevent nadvertent
lateral movement of the mach ne.

5.4 Drive (pto and cardan shafts
• Only use the un versal cardan shaft that came w th the mach ne or the one
prescr bed by the manufacturer.
• The pto or cardan shaft protect on must always be mounted and n good cond t on.
• Make sure the protect ve sleeve of the un versal cardan shaft prov des complete
protect on n work ng pos t on as well as n transport pos t on.
• Stop the tractor eng ne and take out the gn t on key before mount ng or d smount ng
the cardan shaft.
• If the cardan shaft s equ pped w th a sl pp ng clutch or a freewheel clutch, then
mount t on the mach ne s de.
• Always make sure the un versal cardan shaft s mounted and locked correctly.
• Always make sure that the protect ve sleeve of the un versal cardan shaft s locked
f rmly n the rotat ng d rect on w th the a d of lock cha ns.
• Select the correct rpm for the cardan shaft before sw tch ng t on.
• Check that there are no people or an mals near the mach ne before sw tch ng on the
cardan shaft.
• Sw tch off the cardan shaft when the angle w th the mach ne or the tractor exceeds
the value prescr bed by the manufacturer.
• WARNING: When the cardan shaft has been sw tched of, the dr ven pump may
coast down a wh le. Never touch t wh le t s coast ng down.
• Place the cardan shaft n the spec al cardan shaft support when t s not n use.
Never let t hang on the lock cha n.
• After uncoupl ng the un versal cardan shaft from the pto, the protect ve cover must
be placed back on the tractor pto.
• Damaged and/or defect ve pto and cardan shaft covers must be replaced at once.
Only use or g nal replacement parts.
• Never stand on the cardan shaft or on the protect ve sleeve of the cardan shaft.
• Always observe the cardan shaft nstruct on manual when work ng w th the mach ne.

5.5 Working with the machine
• The gu de arm must never be used as a ho st.
• The mach ne must not be operated by people younger than 18.
• Always apply the tractor handbrake before work ng w th the mach ne or leav ng the
tractor seat.
• Always ensure you have suff c ent room when us ng the mach ne gu de arm.
• Take care of electr c cables and l nes when work ng w th the gu de arm. Touch ng
them can be fatal!
• Never play games w th the mach ne.
• Wear adequate eye protect on (goggles). The flush ng water leav ng the dra np pe
under pressure may carry off small hard objects at h gh speed.
• Only operate the mach ne from the pos t on ntended for t.
• Only operate the tractor from the pos t on ntended for t.
• Always ensure a good v ew of the work.
• Always sw tch off the mach ne when you leave t and take the tractor gn t on key
w th you.
• WARNING: In the area of the mach ne gu de arm the r sk of gett ng caught and
susta n ng njury ex sts.
• When work ng from publ c roads, always keep other road users n m nd. Sw tch on
the flash ng l ght or rotat ng l ght.
• The max mum perm ss ble values such as: eng ne rpm, hydraul c o l pressure and
water pressure etc. of the mach ne must not be exceeded.
• When the mach ne s operat ng, the no se product on of the mach ne s lower than
70 dB(A). Use hear ng protect on dependent on the no se produced by the tractor.
• When the mach ne s operat ng, the mechan cal v brat on energy value of the

• If a thunderstorm approaches when work ng on the f eld, d rectly s t n the tractor f t
has a cab.
• Never leave the mach ne when the tractor gn t on key s st ll n the gn t on lock.

• Always observe the operat ng manual of the tractor used when work ng w th the
mach ne.
• Emergency: In the event of a runaway tractor d esel eng ne due to nsuff c ent
ma ntenance of the a r f lter or the crankcase vent lat on system, the mach ne and
the tractor eng ne may get severely damaged due to a very h gh rpm. If th s
happens, the a r ntake of the tractor eng ne must be shut off as qu ckly as poss ble
to stop the eng ne.
• Emergency: If the tractor w th the mach ne has toppled, the tractor eng ne must be
shut off d rectly to prevent damage to the tractor eng ne and the mach ne water
pump.

5.6 Transport (behind the tractor
• If the tractor w th the mach ne has to use publ c roads, the assembly must sat sfy
the current traff c regulat ons and leg slat on. When the mach ne s h tched to the
tractor, n many cases the or g nal rear l ght ng of the tractor s obscured. Th s
means that a correctly funct on ng l ght beam must be mounted to the rear of the
mach ne f tted w th:
• Rear l ghts
• Brake l ghts
• Flasher l ghts
• L cence plate l ght ng ( .a.)
• L cence plate holder ( .a.)
• Holder for tr angle "Slow traff c"
• Red rear fog l ght ( .a.)
• Reflectors
• Also make sure that the flash ng l ght or rotat ng l ght mounted on the tractor s
clearly v s ble for traff c approach ng the tractor w th mach ne from the rear. That
appl es for transport pos t on as well as operat ng pos t on.
• Make sure the max mum perm ss ble axle loads and max mum perm ss ble
d mens ons of tractor and mach ne are n accordance w th the traff c regulat ons
when us ng publ c roads.
• Make sure the mach ne has been brought nto transport pos t on as prescr bed by
the manufacturer when us ng publ c roads w th the tractor and mach ne.
• It s not perm tted to carry people, an mals or goods w th the mach ne.
• Be aware that the tractor handles d fferently w th a h tched mach ne.
• Check that the tractor front axle pressure s suff c ent before dr v ng off. If not, place
ballast we ghts as prescr bed by the tractor manufacturer.
• Make sure that the max mum perm ss ble axle loads or the axle loads d v s on of the
tractor are never exceeded.
• Allow for the protrud ng rear length when tak ng corners and revers ng when the
mach ne s h tched to the tractor. Insuff c ent room when tak ng corners can cause
rreparable damage to the complete mach ne and the three-po nt l ft.
• When the mach ne s transported beh nd the tractor n ts h ghest pos t on, then lock
the operat ng lever of the three-po nt l ft.
• Keep n m nd that the mach ne may h t the ground w th force when dr v ng over
rough terra n w th the tractor. That may cause severe damage to both the three-
po nt and the mach ne tself.
• Sw tch off all work ng l ghts when dr v ng over publ c roads.

5.7 Transport (not behind the tractor
• Be aware of the total transport he ght (flyovers etc.).
• Be aware of the total transport we ght.
• Never stand under a l fted mach ne.
• Only use the spec al ho st ng eyes when the mach ne has to be ho sted.
• Only l ft the mach ne at those places nd cated w th the st cker below.
