GENERAL INFORMATION
HPX-T combines Honeywell's past experiences with Fibre Optic sensors and its
latest technology to create a dependable, user-friendly automatic tuning sensor. Setup
is simply and accurately performed by the push of a button. In addition, it is the
industry’s first photoelectric control to provide alphabetical and numerical
information on the status of the sensor. Numerically, you can monitor the light
reception level and the margin level you have, or had, at the time of auto-tuning. In
both cases, the larger the number, the more security you have for the operation.
The alphabetical information provides you the reason for error, instructing you what
to do next.
It's also the industry's first to offer 7 different levels of hysteresis, which will be
picked automatically for optimum setting on the application.
The Honeywell HPX-T is supported by a complete line of HPF standard plastic fibres
and special purpose fibres (glass, chemical-proof, cold and heat resistance) to
satisfy various applications.

Sensitivity Adjustment Instruction
Each HPX-T is delivered on the following setting : "RUN" for operation mode selector, "LO" for LO/DO selector and set at maximum scan
sensitivity. Parmeters are stored in a non-volatile, high releability memory and are kept even without power supply

Note on alarm display :
When the tuning is not properly made. "E" for error will either flash or stay on in the digital display. This can be used to assist you in correctly
setting the position of the fibre or the position of the targets. When "E" is flashing, the sensor informs you that there is not sufficient level of light
reception from the material. Try moving the fiber closer to the target.
If "E" stays On, the sensor informs you that there is not a sufficient level of difference in light reception between 2 targets for "contrast". Try
angling the fibre head position from the targets.
The alarm is locked (Output Off) until you re-teach the sensor.

Notes : In positioning, you have to push the tuning button only once for teaching.
Do not push the tuning button twice, as in "contrast" setting.
If the level of light reception is too low, "E" will flash. Try moving the fibre closer to the target.
The alarm is locked On (Output Off) until you re-teach the sensor.
To activate or to de-activate the Off-Delay timer, make
sure that the operation mode selector is switched to
"RUN". The Off-Delay function latches the output On for
40 milliseconds before switching to Off. This prevents
the sensor from reacting to holes or irregularities in the
target.
This setting is equivalent to turning the potentiometer to
its maximum position on a conventional sensor. The
function has been mainly designed for Through-Scan
fibre applications.
Note: Unlike the contrast, positioning a target is not
necessary for this maximum setting.

Note: The point of operation is always set between 4 and 5 of light reception level.
A is equal to twice the hysteresis automatically set during sensitivity adjustment.
Margin display
The digital display usually shows the amount of light received. However, it can also show the contrast margin, provided the
sensor is programmed for Distinction/Contrast setting :
• At the end of Distinction/Contrast setting, before putting the switch back to "Run".
• With the switch in «run» mode, by pressing the "tuning" button. (If the sensor is programmed for Positioning, the display will
show "-". If the sensor is programmed for Maximum sensitivity, the display will show "H").
The contrast margin shows the difference of light received between both targets. The higher the number, the better the security.
In this array, the first line is the number displayed. The second line shows the actual security margin, expressed as multiple of
the hysteresis (hysteresis is automatically adjusted).

Using the Remote Teaching function
The remote teaching function is available on HPX-T3, HPX-TV3, HPX-T4, HPX-TV4 models.
It allows the operator to program the sensor from a remote location, or to program a number of sensors in the same time.
As many sensors as needed can have their remote teaching inputs tied together, and be programmed via a manual switch or a PLC output.
For NPN versions (HPX-T3, HPX-TV3), the remote teaching wire must be connected to the ground for programming. When not
programming, it must be left open or, better, connected to the power supply.
For PNP versions (HPX-T4, HPX-TV4), the remote teaching wire must be connected to the power supply for programming. When not
programming, it must be left open or, better, connected to the ground.
The remote teaching function allows to program the sensor in Distinction/Contrast mode only. Positioning and Maximum Sensitivity
modes can not be programmed by remote teaching and must be programmed using the tuning button.
How to teach the sensor
1 - Do not put the selection switch on "set"
2 - Present the first target
3 - Connect the Remote Teaching Input to the Ground (NPN versions)
or to Vdc (PNP versions), for a minimum of 100 ms
4 - Present the second target (leave at least 200 ms between teachings)
5 - Connect the Remote Teaching Input to the Ground (NPN versions)
or to Vdc (PNP versions), for a minimum of 100 ms
6 - The display shows the contrast margin for about 1 second
7 - The sensor is programmed and goes back automatically to normal mode

Error :
If the level of light received is too low, or if the contrast margin is too tight, then the sensor goes in error state (showing "E"), and latches its output until it is re-taught.
