FAQ
Use Shortcuts to Access Frequently Used Features
Applicable products: Honor 8X
If you touch and hold an app icon and no shortcut is created, the app does not support home
screen shortcuts.
Each app supports up to four frequently used features. These are preset by the app and cannot be
changed.
Quickly access frequently used app features: Touch and hold an app icon, and then touch a
frequently used feature to access it. For example, to take a selfie, touch and hold the Camera
icon, and then touch Selfie in the pop-up menu to create a selfie shortcut.
Add shortcuts to your home screen: Touch and hold an app icon on your home screen to bring
up the menu. Touch and hold the desired feature and drag it to your home screen to create a
shortcut. For example, you can add a shortcut for the camera"s selfie feature to the home screen.
Unable to adjust View mode by sliding left or right
There are three View mode options: Small, Medium (Default), and Large. To specify View

Customize App Permissions to Use Your Phone Your Way
Applicable products: Honor 8X
Worried about third-party apps obtaining too many important permissions and disclosing your
personal information? You can monitor the permissions of each app and deny unwanted
permissions.
Disabling a permission may cause an app function to become unavailable. For example, if the
location permission for a map app is disabled, the app will be unable to provide you with
location and navigation services.
Set app permissions: Want to deny unwanted permissions? Open Settings, and go to
Apps > Apps , select the app and touch Permissions on the App info screen and then enable or
disable the unwanted permissions.
Check and modify permissions: Want to check which apps are allowed important permissions?
Open Settings and touch Apps > Permissions , select the permission you want to view and
touch the switch next to an app to allow or deny the permission for that app.
Update the Phone System Online
Applicable products: Honor 8X
Before installing the update, connect your Phone to the Internet. Online updates consume
mobile data, so it is recommended that you use a Wi-Fi network.
Make sure that the battery level remains above 30% during the update.
Using unauthorized third-party software to update your Phone may damage your Phone
or put your personal information at risk. You are advised to update your Phone online or
bring your Phone and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service
Center for updates.
Back up important data before updating your Phone.
After the update, certain third-party apps, such as e-banking and game apps, may be
incompatible with the new system. Regularly update such third-party apps to fix
compatibility issues.
1. Open Settings.
2. Go to System > Software update . When the system detects a new version, go to New
version > DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL.
To disable system updates, go to and disable Auto-download over Wi-Fi.

Solution:

EMUI 5.X and 8.X: Open Weather, touch in the upper left corner, then touch Weather
widget.
EMUI 9.X: Open Weather and touch Weather widget.

Unable to return to the previous screen by touching the front navigation button
Scenario 1: One key mode is in use.
Problem:
When One key mode is in use, touching the front navigation button brings up the recent tasks
screen instead of the previous app screen.
Cause:
The swiping distance for the front navigation button is too long, causing the recent tasks screen
to open.
Solution:
Touch the front navigation button without swiping on it to return to the previous screen.
You can also switch to Three keys mode and touch the left/right side of the front navigation
button to return to the previous screen.
Scenario 2: Three keys mode is in use.
Problem:
In Three keys mode, when the user touches the fingerprint sensor to enroll their fingerprint, the
fingerprint enrollment screen unexpectedly closes.
Cause:
When enrolling your fingerprint in Three keys mode, it is possible to inadvertently touch the
left/right side of the front navigation button, which closes the fingerprint enrollment screen.
Solution:
You are advised to avoid touching the sides of the front navigation button during the fingerprint
enrollment process.
You can also switch to One key mode to complete the fingerprint enrollment.
Scenario 3: Gestures is in use.
Problem:
The front navigation button does not work when Gestures is enabled.
Cause:
By design, the front navigation button does not work when Gestures is enabled. The virtual
navigation keys are not displayed either.
Solution:
Navigation gestures work as follows:
oHome screen: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
oBack: Swipe inward from the left or right edge of the screen.
oRecent tasks: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold.
You can switch to another navigation method that you prefer. (Open Settings, and search
for System navigation.)
Phone lags when I preview or take a photo in low-light conditions
Scenario 1: The viewfinder is slow to respond in low-light conditions.
Cause:
In low-light conditions, the frame rate decreases, which causes the viewfinder to lag.
Solution:
Move to an area with better lighting conditions or enable Flash.
Scenario 2: The camera is slow to respond when you take a photo.
Cause:
In low-light conditions, the camera processes the image to improve the image quality.
This may take a few seconds to complete.
Too many apps are running in the background, leading to a high CPU usage rate.
Solution:
Enable Flash and touch the screen to bring the image into focus. This reduces the time
required by the camera to process the image.
Charge your phone if the battery is less than 20%. Otherwise, your phone will downgrade
its performance to extend the battery life, causing your phone to lag.
Third-party photography apps may conflict with the preinstalled Camera app of your
phone. Uninstall any third-party photography apps.
Clear background apps.
Restart your phone.
Clear the Camera cache.
EMUI 5.X or earlier: Go to Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage.
EMUI 8.X: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Camera > Storage.
EMUI 9.0: Go to Settings > Apps > Apps > Camera > Storage.
Touch CLEAR DATA and CLEAR CACHE.
Open Phone Manager (or Optimizer) and touch Cleanup to perform a cleanup.
If the issue persists, back up your data and restore your phone to its factory settings, or
update your phone system to the latest version and try again.
Magazine unlock does not work or switch between images
1. Verify that Magazine unlock has been enabled:
EMUI 8.X and earlier: Open Settings, and search for Lock screen style. Set Lock screen
style to Magazine unlock.
EMUI 9.0 and later: Open Settings, and search for Magazine unlock. Then enable
Magazine unlock. If this menu can"t be found, go to Themes > Me > Customize > Lock
screen style > Magazine unlock > Apply to enable Themes.
2. If the Lock screen style images do not switch, swipe up from the bottom of the lock
screen, and check the or icon (the leftmost one in the first row) to see if image
lock is enabled. If so, touch the icon to cancel image lock.
App icons are rearranged when I unlock the screen
Cause:
You may have enabled the Shake to realign feature. This feature automatically rearranges
home screen icons when you shake your phone.
You may have rearranged your home screen icons in Guest mode. These changes will not
be saved when you use your phone in Owner mode.
Solution:
Touch and hold a blank area on the home screen to enter editing mode. Touch Settings or
Home screen settings and disable Shake to realign.
Access your phone in Owner mode and rearrange the app icons as desired.

Scenario 1:
The alarm doesn"t go off.
Cause:
Your phone is muted or the alarm volume is set to 0.

Solution:
Increase the alarm volume: Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification
panel. Touch and hold the Sound icon or press the Volume up button to access the
volume settings. Touch Volume and drag the slider to increase the volume.

alarms set by sub-users will not go off.
Solution:
Log in to the sub-user account that was used to set the alarm: Go to Settings > Users & accounts
> Users and select the desired sub-user.
Scenario 3:
Visitor account alarms don"t go off when you switch to another user account.
Cause:
When you switch from the visitor account to another user account, the visitor account is
suspended. Any alarms set using the visitor account will not go off.
Solution:
Log back in to the visitor account: Go to Settings > Users & accounts > Users and switch to
Guest mode.
Scenario 4:
Some sub-user alarms don"t go off when you switch between multiple user accounts.
Cause:
To improve performance, the system only runs two accounts in the background: the owner"s
account and the previous sub-user"s account. All other user accounts are suspended. Alarms set
by these accounts will not go off.
Solution:
Log back in to the sub-user account that was used to set the alarm: Go to Settings > Users &
accounts > Users and select the desired sub-user.
If the issue persists, perform the following steps:
