1. Important notice
1.1 General
· Please read the installation and user manual thoroughly and follow the instructions before installing the combustion control.
· Please read the Installation and user manual thoroughly and follow the instructions before using electronic display.
· Installation and set-up of HOS combustion system can only be carried out by a specialist or authorised chimney sweeper.
· The prerequisite for the proper function of HOS is the correct installation and proper functionality of all its subcomponents.
· Not complying with the Installation and user manual leads to a loss of warranty.
· Any end-user changes of HOS combustion system are not allowed.
· The handover certificate must be filled in together with the end user. This report shall be made up in two copies, one copy for each
interested subject. The handover certificate informs about the settings made to the particular unit.
· The handover certificate is at the end of this manual.
· The handover certificate should be provided to an authorised chimney sweeper upon request.
· The device requires a check of proper functionality once a month. This user-check is described in chapter 8.6 Functionality
test.
· The HOS combustion control has been tested in TÜV SÜD laboratories and has been approved for the German market by the
technical authority DIBt – Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik.
1.2 Danger due to lack of combustion air or defective gas flue
Always provide a sufficient amount of combustion air for the safe operation of the fireplace..
During the operation, all applicable local laws and regulations must be followed. Furthermore, it must also be in accordance
with the local building regulations.
In case of warranty claim, it is necessary to provide a valid handover certificate.

The HOS combustion control does not support combustion air supply.
Built-in ventilation devices can have a negative impact on the function of the HOS combustion control.
These are e.g., ventilation equipment, hood extractors, exhaust air dryers, central vacuum cleaner
systems, etc.
For MODULE U operation it is expected that there is sufficient burning air inlet and safe flue gas outlet. Use only flue recommended by
HOXTER.

4. Description of the HOS device
Electronic combustion control HOS is a device containing some of the following modules or their combination:
· Module A – electronic combustion control - chapters related with this module are marked A
· Module W – primary water cycle control - chapters related with this module are marked W
· Module U – Underpressure watcher - chapters related with this module are marked U
· The chapters related with electronic combustion control without a display are marked
This manual is common to all available versions. Please, consider your own version during
the installation, set-up and operating.
4.1 Function description of the electronic combustion control – MODULE A A
MODULE A controls the burning process by dosing the optimal amount of air for combustion. The contactless door sensor (2)
transmits information about the status of the door to the control unit. When they are opened and then closed, the control unit initiates
the combustion control process. The flue gas temperature sensor (3) measures the current temperature in the fire chamber or flue gas
path. Based on this value, the control unit sets the position of the flap (1) to ensure the supply of the optimal amount of air.
If you have a version with a wireless display (4), the display shows the temperature measured by the flue gas temperature sensor, the
burning phase and the burning time.

4.2 Function description of primary water cycle control – MODUL W W
MODULE W regulates the circulation pump depending on the temperature values measured by the heat sensors. The switching of
the circulation pump (A) by the switch (7) is controlled based on ratio of values measured by heat sensors in the heat exchanger (4)
and in the accumulation tank (5) and (6). The wireless display (8) shows the value of the water temperature in the exchanger (4), the
percentage charge of the accumulation tank and the status of the circulation pump (A). MODULE W can only be used in combination
with MODULE A.

4.3 Function description of underpressure watcher – MODULE U U
MODULE U allows, based on the difference between underpressure values in the flue gas path and pressure in the room, short-term
disconnecting of the ventilation systems (kitchen hood, recuperation, or other ventilation equipment in the house) from operation.
Flue gas temperature sensor (1) activates the measurement of underpressure in the chimney (2) and room pressure (B). If the safe
value of the difference between these pressures is not ensured, the switch (3) will temporarily disable the ventilation unit (A). Once
the safety time limit has expired and the underpressure difference is save, the unit is put back into operation. Only three consecutive
disconnections of the ventilation system are allowed. If the ventilation system is disconnected for the fourth time within 24 hours, it
will not be put back into operation. The device can only be turned on again by manual restart. Within 24 hours, such restarts can be
performed three times through the wireless display, the fourth restart must be performed physically on the control unit of the device
only. The wireless display (4) shows the current difference between the room pressure (B) and the pressure in the flue gas path (2) as
well as the status of the ventilation unit (A).

5. HOS Applications
The HOS electronic combustion control can be used for the following types of fireplaces:
· Residential cookers fired by solid fuel according to DIN EN 12815
· Residential cookers (with a water heat exchanger) fired by solid fuel according to DIN EN 12815
· Chimney inserts for tiled stoves for solid fuels according to DIN EN 13229
· Heating or chimney inserts for solid fuels with a water heat exchanger according to DIN EN 13229
· Standalone woodburning stoves or room heaters for solid fuels according to DIN EN 13240,
· Standalone woodburning stoves or room heaters for solid fuels with a water heat exchanger according to DIN EN 13240
· Tested, room air-independent fireplaces in accordance with the above standards if the requirements of the approval for installation
cannot be met
· Heating inserts for tiled stoves for solid fuels with metallic heating gas flues or heating boxes according to DIN EN 13229
· Handcrafted storage fireplaces with heating inserts or chimney inserts for solid fuels with ceramic heating gas flues according to
DIN EN 13229
· Slow heat release appliances fired by solid fuel according to DIN EN 15250
· Masonry heaters according to TROL
· Fireplaces according to 15a B-VG
6. Position of pressure and temperature sensors
6.1 General information
· For proper function of the electronic combustion control HOS, the position of the pressure and temperature sensors must be
chosen according to the type of the fireplace installed.
· The flue gas temperature sensor must be installed in the combustion chamber or in the smoke outlet to ensure proper temperature
measurement.
· When installing the sensors, the instructions from both chapters 7.2 and 7.9 must be followed.
Flue gas temperature sensor’s cable as well as the silicone hose must be installed in such a way
as the safe distance from hot surfaces (e.g. exhaustion pipes, fireplace body, etc.) is ensured.
Surrounding temperature must not exceed 180 °C.
The installed silicone hose and flue gas temperate sensor must always be accessible through a
revision opening, in cases of maintenance or service. (Fig. 4)
Install the room pressure sensor in the room of installation or in the place air-connected to the
installation room. (Fig. 4)
The electronic combustion control HOS with the underpressure watcher (MODULE U) is only approved
for single assignment. Usage in multiple occupancy is not allowed.

6.2 Choice of proper position of pressure measurement and temperature of the fireplace
measurement
The position of the flue gas temperature sensor and silicon hose must be chosen according to the type of fireplace specified in the
table.

For HOXTER products, use the intake for a flue gas temperature sensor. For third party products, the
flue gas temperature sensor must be installed in the fireplace or in smoke outlet, as close to the fire
chamber as possible, in order to avoid distortion of the actual temperature.
The flue gas temperature sensor must always be installed in front of the accumulation mass.

The accumulation mass must always be possible to bypass.
No throttles shall be used in the accumulation mass or in the bypass path.
7. Installation of the components
The prerequisite for the proper functioning of HOS is the correct installation and proper functionality
of all its subcomponents.
7.1 Installation of contactless door sensor AW
If the door sensor was not already mounted on the product, follow these instructions (Fig. 7):
1. Dismount the connector from the cable, break out the indicated opening in the sensor holder(B), pull the door sensor through this
hole (A) and fasten with the distance barrel (C), and a nut (D) attach the connector back to the cable.
2. Attach the door sensor with the holder using the supplied screws to the designed place on the doorframe (E).
3. Attach the magnetic counterpart on the bottom edge of the doors.
4. Both the door sensor and the magnetic counterpart must be placed in a common axis. The distance between those parts must
be 2–12mm (F). In case of smaller distance needed use one of distance barrel (C,D). Sensor and magnetic counter part should not
touch.
5. Fix position with supplied screws (G).

If you need to install second door contact (double faced fireplace inserts or products with rear feeding), follow these instructions:
1. Remove the green connectors from the door sensors.
2. Put the blue cable of one door sensor and brown cable of second sensor together to one connector (Fig.8).
3. Connect two remaining cables (blue and brown) with connection piece contained in the package of second door sensor

7.2 Installation of flue gas temperature sensor AWU
The position of the flue gas temperature sensor differs and is specified in the chapter 6.Positions of pressure and temperature
sensors.
If the flue gas temperature sensor is installed in the exhaust pipe, the measuring length of the sensor
must reach half the diameter of the pipe to ensure the homogeneous flue gas flow.

diameter
5. Tight the secure screw in the housing

7.3 Air inlet flap installation AW
1. Connect the air inlet flap by aluminium flexible pipe (not included) with the fireplace insert or stove doors. The connection between
the air inlet flap and the product must be air-tight.
2. When installing into closed-in build, the air inlet flap must be placed outside the environment with high temperature. The heat
resistance of the air inlet flap is max 50°C.
If you want to control the fireplace using electronic combustion control only and if you want to disassemble manual air control, follow
these instructions:

1. Set the air control to opened position (maximum air)
2. Remove the air control lever (dotted Fig. 11)
3. As an accessory, it is possible to order a hole cover, which
can be mounted instead of the lever.

For the proper function of the electronic combustion control, it is always necessary to open
the manual air control to the maximum.
To ensure correct measurement, the flue gas temperature sensor must be calibrated every 2 years.
For the flue gas temperature sensor to function properly, ensure a perfectly strong connection of its
connector to the control unit connector.
Place the flue gas temperature sensor cable in the enclosure so
that it does not touch the body of the fireplace insert or other
parts that may reach higher temperature than 180 °C. You can use
insulation board or equivalent suitable material.

7.5 Installation of the circulation pump socket switch W
When installing the circulation pump socket switch, follow these instructions (Fig. 14):
1. Plug the socket switch (A) of the circulation pump into the 230 V power supply..
2. Connect the pump socket switch and control unit with the cable (socket KP2).
3. Plug the circulation pump power cord (230 V) into the socket switch socket (C).
4. Diode (B) indicates the status of circulation pump: diode on – circulation pump is not powered / diode off – pump is powered

The total length of cables for switches is max. 30 meters.

7.4 Installation of heat sensors PT 1000 and sensor sump W
1. MODULE W contains 3 pieces of heat sensors PT 1000 with different coloured connectors and 1 piece of sump for temperature
sensor.
2. Install the heat sensor sump in the heat exchanger of Hoxter water heating fireplace insert (follow the instructions attached to the
product).
3. Mount the heat sensor PT 1000 marked yellow in the sump in the heat exchanger of the fireplace insert. Put the sensor
at least 60 mm deep.
4. Mount the heat sensor PT 1000 marked red in the top of the accumulation tank. Put the sensor at least 60 mm deep.
5. Mount the heat sensor PT 1000 marked white in the bottom of the accumulation tank. Put the sensor at least 60 mm deep.

7.6 Installation of the circulation pump DIN rail relay W
When installing the circulation pump DIN rail relay, follow these instructions (Fig. 15):
1. Let the DIN rail relay to be installed by authorized company to your electrical switchboard.
2. Connect the pump DIN rail relay and control unit with the cable (socket KP2).
3. The authorised company connects the phase of the power cord of the circulation pump (230 V) to the inlet (A) of DIN rail relay.
4. Diode (B) indicates the status of circulation pump: diode on – circulation pump is not powered / diode off – pump is powered.
Contact an authorized company with the appropriate certification for electric installations.
The total length of cables for switches is max. 30 meters.
7.7 Installation of the ventilation device socket switch incl. protection against disconnection U
When installing the ventilation device socket switch, follow these instructions (Fig.16):
1. Plug the socket switch (A) of the ventilation device into the 230 V power supply.
2. Connect the ventilation device socket switch and control unit with the cable (socket LA2).
3. Plug the ventilation device power cord (D, 230V) into the socket switch socket (C).
4. To protect against disconnection, use the enclosed cover (E) and secure it with 4 included safety screws (F).
5. Diode (B) indicates the status of ventilation device: diode on – ventilation device is powered / diode off – ventilation is not powered.
The total length of cables for switches is max. 30 meters. It si not allowed to remove safety cover.
Removing of safety cover by user leads to loss of warranty.
It is possible to control up to 5 ventilation devices together. To control more than one, use the
LA3 connector on switch and connect it to socket LA2 on next switch.

Contact an authorized company with the appropriate certification for electric installations.
The total length of cables for switches is max. 30 meters.
It is possible to control up to 5 ventilation devices together. To control more than one, use the
LA3 connector on switch and connect it to socket LA2 on next switch.
7.8 Installation of the ventilation device DIN rail relay U
When installing the ventilation device DIN rail relay, follow these instructions (Fig.17):
1. Let the DIN rail relay to be installed by authorized company to your electrical switchboard.
2. Connect the ventilation DIN rail relay and control unit with the cable (socket LA2).
3. The authorised company connects the phase of the power cord of the ventilation device (230 V) to the inlet (A) of DIN rail relay.
4. Diode (B) indicates the status of ventilation device: diode on – ventilation device is powered / diode off – ventilation is not powered.

When installing, make sure the silicone hose is not deformed in any way. Otherwise, the correct
function of the device will not be ensured!

7.9 Installation of the flue sensor holder on gas flue U
When installing the flue sensors holder, follow these instructions (Fig. 18):
1. Place the drilling template sticker of flue sensors holder in desired position on flue.
2. Drill corresponding holes for 4 self-tapping screws max Ø 3,5 mm.
3. Drill a hole Ø 6 mm for pressure probe.
4. Drill additional hole Ø 10 mm for flue gas temperature sensor - in case of fastening sensor into flue sensors holder.
5. Remove drilling template sticker.
6. Place flue sensors holder on flue, even it with hole for pressure probe or flue gas temperature sensor. Secure with self-tapping
screws.
7. Mount tube (A) and secure position with hose in upwards position.
8. Fix final position of tube with set screw.
9. Cut corresponding length of silicone hose for connecting HOS U control unit with pressure probe on flue gas.
10. Push silicone hose (C) through spring (B) and put on tube the way that first 10 cm of hose points upwards (prevents condensation
from entering electronics). Ensure the hose is not squeezed or broken on its all length.
11. Put the second end of the silicone hose in the control unit (input marked DK).
12. If you are also installing a flue gas temperature sensor, mount it into the inlet (D)

7.10 Installation of room pressure nozzle U
When installing the nozzle, follow these instructions (Fig. 19, 20):
1. Unscrew the nut (E) from the nozzle (A). Together with the spring (C), remove the washer (B) and (D) from the nozzle.
2. Choose position of nozzle the way it is the least visible but still measure pressure in room where is fireplace located. For high
measurement accuracy place room pressure probe and flue pressure probe in same height.
3. Drill a hole Ø 9 mm and place the nozzle.
4. Fix the nozzle as follows:
· in the case of a wall with a thickness of less than 35 mm, use washers (B) and (D) together with the spring (C) (Fig. 19).
· in the case of a wall with a thickness of more than 35 mm, use only the washer (B) without spring (C) and
the washer (D) (Fig. 20).
5. Cut suitable length of silicone hose (F) for connecting room pressure probe with control unit HOS (DR).
6. Push the hose (F) through the spring (G) and place the nozzle on the tube. Make sure the hose is not deformed.
7. Attach the other end of the silicone hose to the control unit (input marked DR)
Install room pressure probe on the cladding from side of room. To achieve high accuracy room
pressure probe and flue pressuer probe should by in same height.
When installing the pressure probe on the cladding, use the room pressure nozzle.
When installing, make sure the silicone hose is not deformed in any way. Otherwise, the device will
not work properly.
When performing a blower door test, disconnect the silicone hoses from the control unit to prevent
irreparable destruction of the pressure-measuring membrane.
Never blow into the hose connectors on the control unit or silicone hoses. The pressure-measuring
membrane may be destroyed.

Room pressure nozzle must be kept clean (dust, animal hair etc.). Do not use the vacuum cleaner for
cleaning the pressure connectors, silicone hoses or nozzle. The pressure-measuring membrane may
be destroyed.

7.11 HOS control unit installation AWU
1. Install HOS control unit in space where surrounding temperature would not rise above 40 °C. Pressure probe must be installed in
room or in nozzle leading into the room of fireplace instalation.
2. In place of installation with higher temperature use suitable heat insulation protection to prevent device overload.
3. HOS control unit must be accesible in case of service intervention. Revision opening must be at least 25x25 in case of unit control
swap (Fig. 22). Is permitted to cover revision opening with grid.
Pressure sensor is located inside control unit.
Install room pressure probe in room or in place which is not spatially disconnected from room of
fireplace installation.
