This document describes how to install the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) rear panel cable to your HP
workstation.
Kit contents
This kit includes the following components:

Step 1—Prepare the workstation
Your workstation documentation includes instructions for disassembling and preparing the workstation for
installation, including shutting down power, disconnecting all power from the system, and removing the
access panel.

Step 2—Install the SAS rear panel cable
After you have prepared the workstation for installation, perform the following steps to install the SAS rear
panel cable.
ÄCAUTION: Do NOT connect the SAS rear panel cables to the SATA connectors. Connect the SAS rear
panel cables to the SAS connectors only or the hard drives will not function.
Locate the SAS connectors by reviewing the system board layout illustration on the service label of your
workstation access panel. The following illustration is shown as an example; your workstation layout may
be different.

Chassis mounting installation
1. Attach the SAS cables of the SAS rear panel cable assembly to the SAS connectors 1on the system
board.
✎NOTE: If all four connectors are not available because you already have SAS devices installed, connect
the cable assembly to the remaining free connectors. Bandwidth will be proportional to the number of
connectors attached.

2. Use a mounting screw 2to attach the MiniSAS 4X connector of the SAS rear panel cable assembly to
the rear of the chassis.

3. Adhere the external SAS label to the outside of the chassis near the connector.

Optional SAS mounting bracket installation
1. Identify an unused PCI slot. Depress the PCI retention clamp clips and lift the retention clamp 1.
Remove the PCI slot cover from the PCI slot 2.

2. Attach the MiniSAS 4X connector of the SAS rear panel cable assembly to the SAS mounting bracket
1. Install the SAS mounting bracket in the workstation in place of the PCI slot cover 2. Connect the
SAS cables to the SAS connectors on the system board 3, or to an approved, compatible plug in card.
(Refer to Before you begin in this document for information on approved, compatible cards.)

3. Adhere the external SAS label to the outside of the SAS mounting bracket.

Step 3—Reassemble the workstation
After installing the SAS rear panel cable, reassemble the workstation using the instructions in the
workstation documentation. The reassembly process involves reinstalling the side access panel and
restoring power to the workstation.

ステップ 2－SAS リア パネル ケーブルの接続
ケーブル接続する ワー ク ス テーシ ョ ンの準備が完了し た ら、 次の手順に従って SAS リアパネ
ルケーブルを接続し ます。
Ä注意 :
SAS リア パネル ケーブルを SATA コネクタに接続しないで ください。 SAS リア パネル ケーブル
は必ず
SAS コネクタに接続して く ださい。 SAS コネクタ以外に接続すると、 ハード ドライブが動作し
ません。
お使いの ワー ク ス テーシ ョ ンのア ク セ ス パネルにあ るサービ ス ラベル上のシ ステムボード のレ
イアウ ト図をよ く見て、 SAS コネク タの位置を確認し ます。 次の図は一例で、 お使いのワーク
ステーシ ョ ンのレ イ アウ ト と は異な る場合があ り ます。

シャーシへの取り付け
1. SAS リアパネル ケーブル アセンブ リ の SAS ケーブルを、 システム ボー ド上の SAS コネク
タ1に接続し ます。
✎注記 ：SAS 装置がすでに接続 さ れていて 4個すべての コ ネ ク タ が使用で き ない場合は、 ケーブル アセン
ブ リ を未接続の コ ネ ク タ に接続 し て く だ さ い。 帯域幅は、 接続 さ れてい る コ ネ ク タ の数に比例 し ます。

タ をシャーシの背面に取 り 付けます。

3. 外部 SAS ラベルをコネクタ近くのシャーシ外面に貼り付けます。

オプシ ョ ンの SAS 取り付けブラケッ トの取り付け
1. 未使用の PCI スロッ トを確認します。 PCI 保持 ク ラ ン プ ク リ ッ プ を押 し 下げて、 保持 ク ラ
ンプを持ち上げます (図1参照 )。PCI スロッ トから PCI スロッ トカバーを取り外します(
図2参照 )。

2. SAS リアパネル ケーブル アセンブ リ の MiniSAS 4X コネクタを、 SAS 取り付けブラケッ ト
に取 り 付け ます (図1参照 )。SAS 取り付けブラケッ トをワークステーション内のPCI ス
ロットカバーの代りに取り付けます(図2参照 )。SAS ケーブルを、 システムボード上の
SAS コネクタ、 または認定された互換のプラグインカードに接続します (図3参照 )。(認
定 された互換のプ ラ グ イ ン カー ド については、 本書の 「はじめに」 を参照 し て く だ さ い。 )

3. 外部 SAS ラベルを SAS 取り付けブラケッ トの外面に貼り付けます。

ステップ 3－ワーク ステーシ ョ ンの再組み立て
SAS リアパネル ケーブルの接続が完了 し た ら、 説明書に従っ て ワー ク ス テーシ ョ ン を組み立
て ます。 こ の作業には、 サ イ ド アクセス パネルの取 り 付けおよび電源の再投入が含まれます。
