Introduction
The HP xw9300 Workstation offers flexible storage options and supports integrated SATA RAID and
integrated U320 SCSI RAID.

The xw9300 supports (4) tool-less and (1) tool-required internal 1” HDD slots. The xw9300 can
support up to 2.0TB of SATA storage. The onboard SCSI controllers support up to 5 disks allowing up
to 1.5TB of SCSI storage.

The xw9300 supports many combinations of SATA and SCSI drives for both factory integrated and
After Market Optional (AMO) storage. The supported choices are shown in the flowchart, starting
with the selection of SATA or SCSI for the first drive. Note that if the first drive selected is a SCSI
drive, all subsequent drives must be SCSI drives.
There are no restrictions on the number of drives in the xw9300 with factory-ordered configurations.
However, when configuring the system with dual high end graphics cards not supplied by HP (which
can draw up to 150W each) there may be restrictions on the number of disk drives, amount of
memory, or number of CPUs that can be supported. Please contact the xw9300 Product Marketing
Manager for more details.

RAID
The xw9300 supports SCSI RAID with the addition of a PP574AV card. That card supports RAID 0
(Striping, for performance) and RAID 1 (Mirroring for fault tolerance). The supported RAID
configurations require two or four SCSI drives, and in all cases disks being RAIDed must be identical.
Also note that using RAID 1 halves the amount of available storage. More details on the personal

Cabling
For Factory-integrated storage, all required cabling is provided. For xw9300 AMO storage, the
AA818A 5-Port SCSI cable should be ordered with the PP574AV RAID controller. The AA658A
U320 SCSI Back Panel cable kit allows external SCSI devices to be connected. For those customers
who desire to install their own EIDE drive(s) the DY660A EIDE Cable Kit is provided as an AMO item.
Summary
The xw9300 provides a large amount of highly-configurable storage.
