Safety & Operating Guide for Elite
Upright Infra-Red Heater
Remove Cable Ties from wire guard
& element tray before first use!!
Before using this equipment and to avoid
personal injury, carefully read and understand
these instructions. If there is anything you do not
understand, DO NOT use this equipment, contact
the hire company for advice.
Make sure you are aware of all safety
requirements and that this equipment is suitable
for the task you wish to undertake.
The work area must be cordoned off from the
general public and bystanders.
This equipment must not be operated by persons
who are under the influence of alcohol and/or
drugs. Do not use this equipment if you are tired
or unwell.
You MUST perform a risk assessment before
using this equipment to ensure your safety and
the safety of others.
Do not wear loose jewellery or clothing that may
get in the way or become trapped in the
equipment. Tie back long hair.
Inform everyone in the work area of what you are
doing.
Do not place the heater near flammable materials.
GET FAMILIAR! You must understand how to
switch this unit off quickly in case of an
emergency.
Ensure adequate ventilation when using this
equipment.
Do not use the unit in a confined space.
Do not move the unit using it’s power supply
cable.
Always switch the heater OFF and isolate it from
it’s power supply before cleaning, making
adjustments or when unattended.
Carefully inspect the equipment before use – if
there is any doubt about it’s condition DO NOT
USE IT.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
230 Volt Model:
If
y
ou have hired a 230V model fitted with a 13
A
mp plu
g
, it can be powered from a standard
230V 13A power supply.
If
y
ou have hired a 230V model fitted with a 16
A
mp plu
g
, it can be powered from a 230V 16A
mains supply or from a suitable generator.
BASIC SAFETY
110 Volt Model:
Models fitted with a 110V 32 Amp plug will
require a 110V 32 Amp power supply. This
should be taken from a suitable generator or
vented heater transformer.
Whichever voltage you are using:
DO NOT RUN THIS UNIT OFF AN EXTENSION
LEAD!!
If the equipment fails or if any part becomes
damaged, return it. DO NOT repair it yourself.
Fully unwind and loosely coil all power supply
cables. Position them away from the equipment
where they will be protected from water, sharp
objects and where they will not pose a trip
hazard.
This equipment must only be used by
persons who are medically fit to do so. If
you have any medical condition, are
recovering from any medical condition or
suffer from any mental or physical
disability, you MUST seek professional
medical advice before using this

For additional safety always use an RCD unit or
power the equipment from a mains circuit with a
built in RCD.
Switch the equipment and power supply OFF
before plugging into the supply.
POSITIONING THE HEATER
Place the heater on a firm level surface where it
will not cause an obstruction.
Ensure there is a minimum distance of 300mm to
each side, 500mm to the rear and 3 metres to the
front of the heater to ensure adequate air flow.
Position the heater so that the heat elements face
the area to be heated.
DO NOT site the heater close to flammable liquids
or materials.
The heat element housing can be pivoted to point
down or up as well as forward. Once in position
lock all castors and ensure the head lock knobs
are tight.
If pointing down, make sure that it is NOT
pointing at easily damaged surfaces such as
carpet. Don’t point it at heat sensitive surfaces.
DO NOT cover the heater with anything, keep it
clear.
Each element is individually controlled by it’s
own ON/OFF switch.
To switch an element ON flick it’s switch down.
To switch an element OFF flick it’s switch back
up.
Once in position, plug the heater into it’s power
supply and switch the supply ON. Make sure the
power supply doesn’t cause a trip hazard.
Switch each element on as required.
Do not run continuously for more than 8 hours
without a cooling down break.
ELEMENT SAFETY
Each element is protected by a specially tinted
glass tube. This tube MUST be in good condition,
without any cracks or splits.
The light from an element can damage your eyes
if it is not covered by the tube.
If a tube is missing or damaged or becomes
damaged, switch the heater OFF and isolate from
the supply. Mark the heater ‘UNSAFE DO NOT
USE’ and contact the hire company for a
replacement.
MAINTENANCE & CLEANING
THE CONTROLS
Never undertake any cleaning or maintenance
while the unit is switched on. Isolate from supply
before cleaning. When not being used, store the
unit in a safe place away from thieves and
unauthorised users.
