First bike ride on the City
The time has come. Your first experience on your own City! Whatever bike ride
you do, your safety comes first! If it is your first time cycling on a Huka tricycle,
you may have to get used to it. The most important tip we can give you is that
you have to relax as much as possible while cycling. To make sure everything
goes as smooth as possible, we give you some instructions.
Safe on the road
Apart from your agility on the City, which will improve as you use it, it is
important that your bike is in optimal condition when you hit the road. We
recommend that you take the following aspects into account:
•Before each use, check the condition and function of the brakes, tyres, rims
and steering system.
•Bear in mind that the braking characteristics change and the braking distance
may increase if the road surface is slippery.
•Make sure that any luggage is securely fastened and cannot move.
•Ride on flat and firm surfaces and avoid deep potholes, high thresholds and
puddles of water.
•Ride at an appropriate speed on wet or slippery surfaces, slopes or precipices.
Avoid bumping into kerbs.
•Adjust your speed before cornering to keep all wheels on the ground. Leaning
in helps with this.
•When starting off on a steep slope, lean forward if necessary to prevent the
front wheel from lifting. If you are reversing on a slope, brake carefully until
you come to a stop.
•Downhill at moderate speed so that you can always come to a stop in time
and safely.
ADVICE FROM TONNIE Make sure that the handlebars and saddle are
properly adjusted before you start cycling. This way, you can assume the
correct posture on the bike.

11
ADVICE FROM TONNIE When changing gears, make sure you stop
pedalling and select the desired gear. Do not continue pedalling when
changing gears. This can damage the gear shifting mechanism. Damage
to the gear hub as a result of abuse is not covered by the warranty.
•When you get on, lift your foot to the other side so that your feet are on
either side of the bike. Then put your strongest leg on the lowest pedal
and sit on the saddle.
•Stay upright at all times and keep your feet on the pedals. Even when you
brake or stand still.
•The City is largely made of steel, which is considered non-combustible. The
other materials used, such as plastic, rubber and so on, are not fireproof.
•Wear a suitable bicycle helmet and reflective clothing to increase visibility
on the road.
ADVICE FROM TONNIE When cycling, steer with your arms and not with
your body. Cycling into corners takes some time getting used to. In order
to maintain stability, lean your body slightly towards the inside of the
bend. Adjust your speed accordingly. Avoid sudden and violent steering
movements. In this way, you can avoid accidents and damage.
www.huka.nl/en
Boarding and cycling
Always use the parking brake when getting on or off the bike safely, so that the
bike remains stationary. Put it in first gear (if important) so you can pedal more
lightly. As soon as you are seated and want to ride, reamove the bike from the
parking brake. The parking brake is activated by squeezing
the brake lever on the right and pressing the button (see
figure). To deactivate the parking brake, squeeze the brake
lever slightly. The button then automatically pops out of
the lock. The bicycle is now ready for use.

12
Brakes
Depending on the chosen braking system, we give some instructions on the
different braking possibilities.
•Back pedal brake: By stopping pedalling forwards and then pedalling
backwards, the back pedal brake is activated. This works via the
intermediate axle on both rear wheels.
•Handlebar brakes: braking is done by squeezing both brake levers on the
handlebars. The right hand brake operates the brake in the front wheel. The
left hand brake operates the brakes on both rear wheels. When cornering, it
is best to use the left hand brake. Practise braking on a large enclosed area
before you hit the road. You will then become familiar with the system.
•There are also models with both back-pedal and hand brakes. Here, you can
use both braking methods.
Be careful with the front brake when cornering. Using only the front
brake in a corner can cause instability of the bike.
Always use the parking brake when getting on or off the bike. This
prevents the bike from rolling away. This reduces the risk of falling.
Cycling with pedal assistance
If your City is equipped with pedal assistance, the electric motor is activated as
soon as you start pedalling. Pedalling then becomes lighter. When you stop
pedalling, the pedalling assistance stops as well.
•The pedal assistance is switched on by pressing the
on/off button for 3 seconds.
•The support can be set to 5 different levels by using
the +/- buttons on the handlebar.
•To switch off the pedal assistance, press and hold
the on/off button for 3 seconds. !ŧŞƢƎŧœćƫƢƢŧŞƖ

13
Moving and carrying the bicycle
To move or carry the bike, you can grab it by the carrier at the back and by the
head tube at the front. We recommend that at least two people should be used
to lift the bike. When lifting, also hold the handlebars to prevent the front
wheel and handlebars from turning and possibly causing injury.
Battery indication display
Exposure to bright sunlight can make various materials very hot.
The product contains moving parts. These includes the steering
wheel, wheels, etc. Be alert to the danger of crushing.
Vigilance is recommended when using electrical equipment such as a
mobile phone when the electric drive is on.
Battery indication
If your City is equipped with pedal assistance, the
display will indicate how full the battery is. Check
whether the battery is full when you travel
(longer) distances. The black block gets shorter as the
battery gets emptier. When the block is completely
black, the battery is full. You can also use the battery
indicator on the battery itself.
A detailed explanation of the pedal assistance can be found in the Bafang manual
supplied.
With pedal assistance and walking aid
The walking aid is intended to make it easier to get going when standing still.
Press the - button until the support position indicates "walk". By keeping the '-'
button pressed, the walking aid is switched on and the motor will drive up to 6
km/h without you having to ride along. When you release the '-' button, the
walking aid will stop driving immediately.

Product description
Your City consists of several parts. The most important are described in this chapter.
Bicycle frame
The City's frame consists of a tubular metal construction complemented by
aluminium and stainless steel components. Most of the metal parts are phosphated
and then provided with an impact-resistant powder coating. This construction and
finish guarantee years of cycling pleasure.
Drive unit
The tricycle has its own specially designed drive system on the rear wheels. This
drive (by means of a differential) ensures that the bicycle does not twist and that
bends can be taken easily.
bicycle without
differential
Huka bike with
differential
The differential means that both
wheels are driven independently
of each other. The bike goes
straight ahead and turns more
easily.
Wheels and tyres
The wheels are equipped with quality hubs, stainless steel spokes and
an aluminium rim. A-quality tyres are mounted on these rims. These provide
good grip, low rolling resistance and less wear.
ADVICE FROM TONNIE Regularly check tyre pressure and tyre wear to
ensure safe cycling. Tyre pressure and tyre wear has a major influence on
how your bicycle behaves.

15
Spokes
A correct tension of the spokes ensures a stable tricycle. Because of the
functioning of the new spokes, your City wheels need to be checked after
200 kilometres or 2 months. Your Huka dealer can take care of that. Should a
spoke break or become loose, consult your Huka dealer as well.
Chain & chain guard
The chain guard is specially designed for bikes and made of impact-resistant
plastic. This chain guard protects the chain from dirt and water and also ensures
that the chain cannot dirty your legs or clothing. With a good chain tension, your
City will pedal lightly and you will not hear the chain. If you notice that the chain is
too slack, have it adjusted by your Huka dealer.
Brakes
The basic City model is equipped with a rim brake as the front brake. In addition, a
drum brake operates the rear wheels. The brakes are operated by means of a
brake lever on the handlebar. Optionally, a back-pedal brake is available. Your Huka
also has a parking brake that you use when getting on and off the bike.
TIP
ADVICE FROM TONNIE In time, brakes can wear out and are very
important for safety while cycling. That is why you should have your
brakes checked regularly and, if necessary, adjusted or replaced. Your Huka
dealer can help you with this.
Your Huka has a parking brake. Always make sure that this is activated
when you get on or off the bike. This prevents the bicycle from rolling
away.

16
Crankshaft, crankset and pedals
•The bottom bracket bearings that Huka uses are completely maintenance-
free and cannot be adjusted. If the bearing does get loose, go to your Huka
dealer immediately. If there is play between the crank and the bottom
bracket, take off the dust cap and tighten the underlying bolt with a socket
spanner.
•Most pedals are maintenance free. If the play is too large, consult your
Huka dealer. When assembling the pedals yourself, pay attention to the
indications L (left) and R (right) on the pedal axles. The left pedal you turn
counter-clockwise. You tighten the right pedal clockwise. To do this, use a
socket spanner or a special (narrow) pedal spanner.
•Various (modified) pedals are available as an option.
Gears
If your City is equipped with gears, there is a gear hub between the pedals and
the drive shaft. This is an 8-speed Nexus hub from Shimano, which is tailored to
the City. The bike can also be delivered with a back-pedal brake or back-pedal
automatic. Upon delivery your Huka dealer has checked and adjusted the gears.
The explanation of the gear hub can be found in the Shimano manual.
Adjusting the gear hub is very specialist work. This should only
be done by a Huka dealer.
Saddle
The saddle is adjustable in height, depth and angle. It is very important to adjust the
saddle correctly in order to cycle efficiently, comfortably and safely. A different
saddle model is optional.
Handlebar
The handlebars of the bicycle can be made of steel or aluminium. This depends on
the model of the handlebar chosen. The handlebar is always adjustable in height.
The angle and depth can also be adjusted with some handlebar stem models.

17
Remember to change the batteries in time to avoid dangerous
situations in traffic. Without batteries, the lights will not work.
Make sure that old batteries are disposed of properly.
Mudguards
The mudguards are made of impact-resistant plastic and are fully coloured.
Splashing water is stopped, so that the clothing does not splash under.
Lightning
The City is equipped with battery-operated LED lights with low energy
consumption and long life. The batteries (type AA) are available at various
shops.
If your City is equipped with electric pedal assistance, the lighting is connected to
the battery and there are no loose batteries.
Carrier
The carrier is made of steel. There are several possibilities to carry the luggage.
Ask your Huka dealer about this, so that the right materials can be used and the
whole thing can be assembled safely. With a City with electrical assistance, the
battery-pack is mounted under the carrier.
If you use the luggage carrier, distribute the luggage as well as
possible. The maximum load for this is 25 kg.
Total max. load City : 130 kg user + 25 kg luggage = 155 kg.
The saddle and handlebars should always be tightened securely. Check
this regularly. A loose saddle and/or handlebar can create an unsafe
situation.
www.huka.nl/en

18
Electric pedal assistance
The City can be equipped with electric pedal assistance. The bike is equipped with
an electric motor in the front wheel, a battery pack and an electronics box at the
rear side. A clear display with controls is mounted on the handlebar.
Pass Vario pedal assistance
With the Pas Vario support, you pedal along and the pedalling is supported by
the electric motor in the front wheel. The degree of support can be adjusted with
the control buttons on the handlebar and can be read on the display. The bicycle
is equipped with a 43V 10.4Ah Li-ion battery mounted under the carrier.
Battery pack
Always ensure that the lights and reflectors are clearly visible. The
luggage must also be properly secured. Luggage that is not properly
secured can be dangerous in participating traffic. Straps or belts should
be properly secured to prevent them from getting into the wheel.

Securing components
It is important that crucial components of the bike are properly secured.
These components must be tightened to the correct torque. The table
below shows the values for these tightening torques.
Accessories
Your City can be expanded with various accessories. Think of trunk support,
footrest, bags etc. More information can be found on the price list on our
website or contact your Huka dealer.
Failure to properly tighten components can lead to unsafe situations.
Observe the prescribed tightening torques.

Optimal use
When you deliver your new Huka, the parts have been adjusted to your body
and to your wishes. To make sure you are comfortable, there are adjustment
possibilities for the saddle and the handlebars.
Adjusting the saddle depth
1. Pull back the quick release lever.
2. Pull or push the saddle to the desired height. The
3. The seat pillar must extend at least 6 cm into the frame,
4. The safety marking "MIN" should not be visible.
5. Push the lever forward as far as possible to lock the saddle.
ADVICE FROM TONNIE A good rule of thumb for saddle adjustment is to
sit on the bike without shoes with the crank in line with the seat tube. With
your heel on the pedal, you should not be able to extend your leg.
Adjusting the saddle depth
1. Use a size 13 open-end spanner to loosen the seat bolt slightly, so that the
saddle can move.
2. Pull or push the saddle to the desired position.
3. Tighten the saddle bolt securely to the specified torque on page 19.
Adjusting the seat angle
1. Use a size 13 open-end spanner to loosen the seat bolt slightly, so that the
saddle can rotate.
2. Pull or push the saddle to the desired angle.
3. Tighten the seat bolt securely to the specified torque on page 19.
