3. The shier can be mounted directly to floor using
screws (x4) (8).
OVERVIEW: Install 4-Speed Quarter SƟck ShiŌer:
1. Please take a moment to read and understand
these instrucons before installing your Hurst
4-Speed Quarter Sck Shier.
2. Inventory all parts before starng installaon
process. If necessary, call our tech line to report
missing parts. This will help avoid stranding your
vehicle unl any missing replacement parts arrive.
WARNING:
WORK SAFELY! For maximum safety, perform this
installaon on a clean, level surface with engine
turned off. Chock wheels to prevent any movement.
AVOID SERIOUS INJURY! If you have to raise vehicle to
work under it, support it on a lior jack stands. NEVER
work under a vehicle supported only by jacks.
NOTES:
• Do not mix components (all parts including cable
must be Hurst components provided in kit).
• If a shier is removed and reinstalled, adjustments
must be checked and re-adjusted.
• Always check cable for freedom of moon before
connecng at shier and transmission arm.
• Roung of cable should avoid sharp bends
(permanent damage of cable will result.
Failure to comply with any of the above may result
in malfuncƟon of shiŌer operaƟon. Damage to cable
due to sharp bending, kinking, or excessive heat is
not covered by Warranty.
IMPORTANT: Ensure cable has adequate clearance
around headers and exhaust system. Excessive heat
will melt cable liner and result in cable breakage.
The shier mechanism is precision assembled at
our factory. Any modificaƟon or assembly of shiŌer
will void its warranty, and can cause malfuncƟon.
Disassemble items only as directed by instrucons.
4. With shier mounted in desired locaon, direct
eyelet end of shiŌer cable (2) through shier
frame.
5. Secure cable to frame using clip (4), then press
down unl it is firmly seated.
6. Engage first gear, all the way back, then slide cable
eyelet over pin on shier sck. Install coƩer pin (5)
through hole in shier pin to hold cable in place.

7. Remove stock transmission arm.
9. Route cable through transmission tunnel, avoiding
cable binding or kinking. Ensure cable is not to
close to exhaust system where it can overheat.
11. Install transmission arm (12) as shown.
12. Insert cable through hole in mounng bracket and
secure using clip (4), then press down unl it is
firmly seated.
8. Mount (x2 ea.) screws (14) through flat washers
(16), cable bracket (x1) (13) and spacers (15) as
shown.
NOTE: If the transmission on your vehicle has an
aluminum pan, do NOT use spacers.
10. Secure cable to chassis using clamps (x2) (3). Drill
¼” hole in tunnel or frame, fold clamp around
cable and push split end through the ¼” hole. Push
pointed end into split end unl it snaps ght.

19. Plug female connectors onto spade terminals of
micro switch located in plasc switch housing.
18. Install female crimp terminals (x2) (7) to two
suitable lengths of wire, use at least 16 gauge wire
for installaon.
17. Vehicle must have engine off, parking brake
securely engaged, wheels blocked, with
transmission and shier in neutral posion before
aempng switch wiring hookup.
Neutral/Park Start Safety Switch Electrical
Wiring InstrucƟons:
15. Carefully shithrough each gear (up and down)
and check for free entry of cable pivot into
transmission arm at each gear posion. Re-adjust
if necessary to ensure proper engagement in each
gear.
14. Make sure transmission is in first gear (fully back),
then thread cable pivot in or out on cable unl it
lines up directly with hole in transmission arm.
Insert cable pivot into hole in transmission arm.
NOTE: If your transmission has a PRNDL switch, insert
cable pivot onto inside of arm.
13. Thread cable pivot (6) onto threaded end of cable. 16. When sasfied with adjustment, secure cable pivot
to transmission arm using supplied coƩer pin (11).
Lock cable pivot in this posion with 10-32 nut
supplied on shier cable.

20. Using wiring diagram below as a guideline, install
switch wires into your starng circuit.
21. With shier and transmission in neutral, ensure
your engine will start. Repeat this with shier and
transmission in park posion.
NOTE: If necessary, loosen screw on adjusng
collar located near shier handle then adjust slide
mechanism back and forth unl vehicle starts in neutral
and park only.
