IMPORTANT:
The trouble-shooting and repair procedures listed here should only be
performed by qualified personnel familiar with this equipment.
Use the proper equipment when trouble-shooting!
MAINTENANCE
HURST JAWS OF LIFE® FIRE-RESISTANT HYDRAULIC FLUID
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.
Avoid breathing vapors.
Keep container closed.
Use only with adequate ventilation.
Wash thoroughly after handling.
NOTE: This product could be toxic to fish. It should not be dumped, spilled, rinsed or washed into
sewers for public waterways. Dispose of containers in a secure landfill. Emptied container
retains vapor and product residue. Observe all labeled safe-guards until container is destroyed.
EMERGENCY and FIRST AID PROCEDURES
FIRST AID:
IF IN EYES, immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician.
IF ON SKIN, immediately flush with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing.
Wash clothing before reuse.
IF INHALED, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration, preferably
mouth-to-mouth. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Call a physician.
Daily / After Use Maintenance and Inspection
Inspect carefully for hydraulic leaks
Inspect hoses and couplings for wear and damage
Clean unit with soap and water
Insure that all fasteners are securely fastened
PROBLEM

1Remove the hose reel from carton. Inspect the reel and confirm that all fittings, fasteners
and hoses are securely fastened. Make sure the reel has not been damaged in
shipment. An electric reel should have a rewind switch and a 30amp circuit breaker
included.

If you have purchased an electric reel,
wire the reel to a 12vdc power source
perthewiringdiagram. Mounttheswitch
andcircuitbreakerinaneasilyaccessible
location.
NOTE:
The circuit breaker must be installed to
prevent motor damage.

INSTALLATION & OPERATION
3The reel is provided with four 7/16” diameter mounting holes on the bottom of the reel. If
desired, the reel can be permanently mounted in any position.

Move the power unit dump
valve to the dump position and
disconnect the 100 foot twin-
line hose from the rescue tool
or multi-tool manifold block.
6After starting the power unit,
place the power unit dump
valve in the PRESSURE
position.
9ELECTRIC REEL:
Rewind the hose by actuating the rewind switch and feeding the hose back onto the reel. If
the reel becomes stalled the circuit breaker will trip. First, correct the cause of the hose reel
stall, then firmly depress the circuit breaker button. Resume rewinding the hose reel.

8MANUAL REEL:
Rewind the hose by turning the reel discs and feeding
the hose back onto the reel.
4Connect the two 20 inch
pigtail hoses to a HURST
power unit.

Connect the 100 foot twin-
line hose to a HURST
rescue tool or a multi-tool
manifold block.
